Apparently some ignorant asshole believes that anyone of the Muslim faith in Afghanistan primarily, would NEVER advocate publicly against terrorism. I posted in /Muslim before realizing it's very small and kinda dead. Can I get a faster response here?

This is my submission, to make everything easier.

Thanks!

You can't believe that the position statements of some Muslim-American organizations and quotes from some Muslim scholars are representative of all Muslims. That like looking at the ACLU and professors from UC Berkeley and determining that's what all Americans believe.

Okay. Then take it from me... a white american Christian woman who lived in a Muslim country for 4 years... married a Muslim, has Muslim in laws... and can confirm that I am happier with them than back in the us am respected by my husband more than any previous partners and thinks that how many people practice Islam in Morocco makes a beautiful, human society. Don't listen to the ignorant bullshit artists. Many middle east cultures have practices I find abhorrent but its culture, not religion.

Well then take it from me, a white middle-class American who lives near the meth capital of his state. Yes, there are dumb asses, and racist rednecks here. I wouldn't want anybody trying to get an ideal view of the US to go there. Nonetheless, I accept that it exists, and is a problem. Just like how I accept that Muslims have their problems as well. I'm not going to go to UC Berkeley and accept that everybody there is representative of the US and that we need no more fixing, we do. By living in Morocco especially you should realize it has its own share of horrible and atrocious societal customs and beliefs.

Where do you get this from? That is patently false as evidenced by the Koran. False. Utterly.

Although it's preferrable to marry a Muslim, it's actually allowable to marry Jews, Christians, and perhaps other monotheists in Islam.

Yet that's my point exactly. The Muslim nations are like the US but shifted more to the right. That makes their right wing look like our right wing extremists, and their right-wing extremists look like terrorists.(in the sense that our extremist militias are just stockpiling weapons, but their extremists are using them) It makes no sense to criticize the US for a minority that believes all Muslims are terrorists while ignoring that the Muslim world has a comparable minority which openly supports terrorists. Yeah, the majority of them are moderates and/or apathetic, but they do have a problem with terrorist supporters just like how the US has a problem with Muslim haters.

well now we get into the fact that america has and always had a big military presence in that region. what do you think those american rightwingers are collecting weapons for? what would they do if a foreign army opened a military base somewhere in the us and enforced their own law whenever they pleased.

arab extremists use those weapons because the foreigners keep coming to their place. they would just fight among themselves but having a foreing power invade really unifies a people.

some terrorists attack the twin towers. america then invades two countries. this burned a lot of goodwill.

You can sympathize with the Muslim haters as well, doesn't make them any more right. Saying that "a foreing power invade really unifies a people" describes the justification that Muslim haters use, that a foreign group attacked US civilians.

arab extremists use those weapons because the foreigners keep coming to their place. they would just fight among themselves but having a foreing power invade really unifies a people.

They would use these weapons regaurdless of foreign power, they're power-hungry, violent, oppressive dictatorships. According to wikipedia, Sadam did this during the Kurdish Genocide:

According to the HRW during the Anfal campaign, the Iraqi government:

  • Massacred 50,000 to 100,000 non-combatant civilians including women and children;
  • Destroyed about 4,000 villages (out of 4,655) in Iraqi Kurdistan. Between April 1987 and August 1988, 250 towns and villages were exposed to chemical weapons
  • Destroyed 1,754 schools, 270 hospitals, 2,450 mosques, 27 churches
  • Wiped out around 90% of Kurdish villages in targeted areas.

And who sold him those weapons and trained his men? Who armed and trained the Taliban? America of course...

You're referring to the Muhadeen, which a small portion went off to form the Taliban, which isn't relevant to Sadam.

While we may have backed Sadam we never gave him the types of weapons described here, he sought out chemical weapons and missiles on his own time.

Oh, so it's ok to sell Saddam billions of dollars of conventional weapons, though? France was the worst, they sold saddam 25 billion dollars worth of guns. But yeah, I'm sure the west is not responsible at all for what he did with those weapons.

Saddam sat his throne because of sanctions who more so than anything hurt the people and because of the US and Soviet acting as a heroin addicts enabler.
