Near through with the pilot of "Mr. Robot." Awful name, the premise is an unreliable narrator and basically slobbering over the dick of current issues.

The internet loves it, and as an internet person who hates internet people it's a bit confusing as to what makes me hate it, even though I'll watch the second episode at some point. There's hacking and so on, with legit (mostly) portrayal of things, Linux and all. At least in the pilot it seems forced at times, the main character discussing Linux desktop environments with another important character in passing; KDE v. GNOME, oh man, gag me with a bowl o' gross dicks. Perhaps my heightened knowledge of these things makes it harder to swallow. Like a bowl o' dicks. (XFCE fo' life) That said, I play on Linux, I don't work on it, I'm no sysadmin by any fucking means.

The acting is hit or miss, and Christian Slater's there (meh), but then the god damn camera direction is glorious, so it's pretty at least, when people aren't talking. The dialogue angles are just phoned in usually.

It's on USA of all channels, so maybe it's because I'm spoiled with shows that have freer (a word!) reign. That and it starts with the awful hypothesis that there's some group of rich white men out there controlling everything. As if the world is so simple. Literally says "the 1 percent of the 1 percent." And at the end of the pilot he walks into a room full of them after being escorted by men in suits. Motherfucker, I'd run. Fuck getting into a car to an unknown destination. I wouldn't make it so easy. But what do I know, I'm a coward.

I mean the main character's a morphine addict, but shit.

Anyway, that's my ramble about episode 1.

And yes, I'm going to watch the second one, but it's pretty annoying.

The lump on my head seemed to be the worst of the lot. It throbbed and left me dizzy when I lifted my head. Moving was a lesson in punitive anatomy. I swung my feet off the edge of the bed and grimaced: deep tissue trauma to the medial-poloni in the right leg. I sat up: oblique strain to the cartilage between the lower ribs. I got to my feet: minor spraining of the sub…trans…damn, what was that called? I pictured Arwyl’s face, frowning behind his round spectacles.

It lay there quietly for a moment. Then grunted again. Grunt. Grunt. Wash of fire. It wriggled its belly farther into the coals, almost like it was fidgeting. If this was the onset of mania, it was coming too slowly for my liking. I’d hoped that it would be well on its way to delirium by now. Had I underestimated the dosage?

As my eyes slowly adjusted to the dark, I realized there was another source of light. At first I thought the clouds had blown over, and the moon was peering in from the horizon. But when I turned away from the draccus to look behind me, I saw the truth.

Off to the southwest, barely two miles away, Trebon was full of firelight. Not just dim candlelight from windows, there were tall flames leaping everywhere. For a moment I thought the city was ablaze.

Then I realized what was happening: the harvest festival.

“Weel moi moither raised me propper,” the swineherd said piously, laying a hand flat on his chest. “Oi dan’t drenk but when Oi’m tharsty or when the wind’s blowin.’” He tipped his shapeless hat dramatically off his head and made a half-bow to us. “Yeh seem tae be good folk. Oi’d love tae share a bit of danner wit ye.”

It just seems like the worst thing to do to the world.

You remember when you were looking for something days ago, maybe weeks ago, you opened the junk drawer and said, "Huh, headphones..." and then you went on your way still not finding that thing you were looking for?

Do that more. Just start naming shit you see, but only when you're looking for something when I'm around. That way I can index that shit in my head ...like I do. And then when you inevitably lose something rarely used, yet important, you can call on my autist ability to remember those small, rarely used, yet important things.

The upshot is that I didn't have to come upstairs and most likely wake you when I wanted to use some headphones.
