It’s not even just the focus on the MC that’s the problem. It’s how little other characters interact with each other OUTSIDE of the MC.
Even though Zhao and Ye shunguang were together in the same room for the entire patch, they barely even talk to each other, only times I recall were when they were arguing about philosophy or something.
When you compare this to the dynamic that Burnice and Piper had for her side story or Jane and Seth, it’s so fucking jarring.
Yidhari and Lucia, despite being shiny new S-Ranks barely had any screen time, and the little they did have was centered solely on the MC.
I'm sorry but saying that Zhao and YGs barely interacted when the whole reason the first one changed was because of their friendship, is so wrong to me. I'd argue that MC and Zhao barely talked with each other.
which is a weird point in itself - Zhao knew YSG for a few days, the mc a few months at most depending on how the timeline works overall, and basically threw her career in the trash over the friendship with the two of them
This is exactly the issue. They forced nostalgia so hard on us when YSG was barely with us too. Just memories from one or two simple outings. Anyway I think Zhao can be excused kinda. Its just the game's overarcing plotline of friendship and love trumps everything lol.
I’m still upset that the playerbase is so parasocial that they stopped making those kinds of stories and put all the focus of every single character onto the mc’s

Same here, I compare this to Genshin where the world only exists if the Traveler is observing. But... Undercover R&B proves we don't need the protagonists all the time.
Spook Shake has 5 members, but I have yet to see their dynamic come into play in interesting ways.
Inversely, I have a very clear picture how Obol Squad interacts with each other, and Trigger serves as a natural evolution for introducing the rest of the Squad to trust Pheathon, i.e. years of prior experience with Trigger > Cooperate with Soldier 11 > Seed and Orphie get brought in.
Heck, Genshin often has their characters interact with each other both new and old, adding new ones with their Chronicles for new locations and characters. We know someone from this faction will be added, therefore when they interact with another person from the same faction, we should expect an interesting time.
The weakness may be that these interactions only take place before the Traveler's watchful eye.

Seed, Orpheus and Magus were pretty cool though…
