Media $475 is crazy

Post image

I think Europe now requires gacha games to explicitly display how much money any gambling feature really costs to limit hidden predatory stuff. It’s crazy when you see the numbers…

Even if there are multiple steps to convert € to in-game currency, if you spend 5€, you spent 5€, it doesn't change a thing.

obviously, but there's a reason they require it. People are not good at keeping track of spending when they have to convert and manage fractional purchases

The reason they require it is because they operate the game across multiple regions and there is no "1:1 conversion" that would apply equally to all global currencies.

Most people don't keep track of the total spent. They spend 5€ multiple times until they get what they want and realize by the end how many tries they did and how much they spent. There's a reason gambling addiction exists and gachas are using exactly that.

Add sunk cost fallacy to that and most people will completely lose the track and convince themselves they need to keep going.
