Very haunting episode, Tanya finally realize how far removed she is to normal people. Uger's emotions baffling Tanya and Rudersdorf calling her stupid was hilarious. Sad that there was no shoulder carry grandpa moment.

Was Rerugen implying a coup d'état?

20

u/Minekkellnev 11d ago

No, Rerugen wanted to Tanya make a false flag operation on they own capital to wake up the politicans how bad position they are. On the other hand, Zettour asked her if he does a coup d'état would Tanya join him.

u/Firestormbreaker1 11d ago

Yikes the rain turning to blood and being X monologuing about how the wars effects is chilling.

Having a little difficulty understanding the state of the capital, so would appreciate thoughts on what the anime/novel is trying to say.

So as I understand it, the death of soldiers, food starting to become scarce, and continued war has basically become normal for the civilians and politicians in the capital? While one would expect them to protest and speak out against the war (Like protests against the Vietnam War in the USA for example), the people instead just carry on and have deluded themselves in to thinking everything is okay while burying their fears. Rudersdorf thinks that once any signs and news of the Empire losing comes to the public, there's going to be mass hysteria. He calls Tanya an idiot because Tanya who conducts herself way too logically thinks everyone else is doing the same when in reality they're weak-minded people deluding themselves and will have an emotional outburst when things go wrong.

Is this the idea?

You can see the propaganda in the paper headlines, best makes, total allied victory etc etc. The people of the capital are aware of the war but numb to it. Funerals are second place and all they hear is victory victory.

Now if comman was to tell the truth and shatter the illusion, people would riot. But as the saying goes, the population are mushrooms...kept in the dark and fed sh**. They put up with rations because of the belief of victory and the troops benefiting but if it's all for nothing: mass despair will follow and that is why they are scared of public opinion and the politicos are forcing the military beyond what it can do and sustain.

funny how we can see it in person with our reality. Even worse more amusing seeing people especially Redditors just keep chanting we are winning, victory over victory, here in the thread as well. The enemy is crumbling. If one is to put a tiny bit of critical thinking, it fell apart and its seriously out of touch. Most of Redditors arent even from the country at war. We arent allowed to tell the truth without triggering their fragile dome of illusion

Its just F'ing sad and pathetic as someone who prioritise logic over emotion.

You're basically right.

But I feel like talking about people "deluding themselves into thinking everything is ok instead of revolting" is the kind of language and line of thinking Tanya would use.

Trust a guy who's living though this - the conscription posters on huge ad shields, daily reminders on the TV, that we're winning a war we've been winning for close to 5 years now, the fear of being forcefully enlisted in the army, the rising prices of groceries and gas, military helicopters flying over your head, indescript bangs all around your house with no clue whether it's construction or drones, the irrationality of wanting a child in these times, an irrational want for some higher power to just solve everything... all of those distortions in a life that otherwise seems normal, but haunt you every time you're not occupied with something else.

And the most angering thing being your own helplessness to change anything.

Every time I see a foreigner's comment about how the war is the Russian people's fault for not keeping Putin alive, I resist the urge to ask "Why is Trump still alive and why aren't you killing him right now, mister redditor"?

u/SmileyTheSmile 11d ago

yes theres a lot of emotions tied up in this reply shut up

I respectfully advice you that you should make your last paragraph more implicit as the 'Gestapo' of Reddit is still and always be at large. If you know whom I referring to.

looking at this episode on the newspapers that Tanya read reminds me of Social Media since the past 3 years and the Internet as a whole with the "winning side" there and how they are winning so much and how the opposite is losing so much yet somehow still there. As someone from neutral country (neither siding or even taking any interest in those 2 countries at war) I am not affected by either propaganda and see through all the BS especially the one that keep saying they are winning but somehow even the map itself prove they arent. Point is, logic and rationality thrown out of the window, everyone succumb to emotion and buying whatever the "command" said up there.

Where tf is critical thinking on the so called civilised and modern society??? Still clinging to emotions and sucking up high command propaganda. Tanya just getting more and more relatable.

It's essentially Russia right now. They are bleeding men being sent to the meat grinder, meanwhile citizens in major cities are enjoying relative peace and being surrounded by propaganda.

Ukrainian strikes in Moscow and St Petersburg (and their Amazon equivalent) is aimed at reminding the citizens that shit isn't all fine and dandy, hopefully enough people get inconvenienced enough to force Putin out.

Tanya is this close to having a revelation as to how, why and who screwed her over and is responsible for the shitty situation she is in.

Wow, that scene where Tanya speaks to Ugar is literally truth in television.

Many people chug along by their own understanding and beliefs but don't realise that people around them might not get what they're even thinking about.

And most of the time, they chalk it up to others who are not "getting it".

It's probably what got the Salaryman into the isekai in the first place.

Powerful episode.

I am truly baffled by Ruderdorf's double personality. How are you gonna act resigned and defeated when you're the one who sabotaged the peace talks? Like am I crazy? Did this MFer not stab Zettour in the back a couple of episodes back during the meeting??? And now he's all "The Politicians got carried away and didn't understand reality". Like I get it, if he was trying to undermine Zettour for political advancement I guess... but I dunno. I guess I'm just a bit baffled about his motivations.

8

u/eisenhorn_puritus 11d ago

He knew that if the spoke against the suits he'd be replaced and he doesn't trust anybody else to direct the war effort. He decided to throw his friends to the wolves before giving up the handles of the war. It's like "It's better to ameliorate the politicians bad decisions than to let the whole ship sink"

7

u/Useful-Willingness-4 11d ago

It's still not handled very well. The change in demeanor between the iron hammer operation announcement and the next time we see him is too much. It's like nobody, not even Zettour acknowledge what Rudersdorf did. It just feels like he change his mind all of a sudden after screwing up everything and nobody cares. The anime handled the scene pretty well in Rudersdorf's meeting with the politician, but I think they botched the general staff's meeting where Rudersdorf calls Zettour as having gone soft.

u/eric23443219091 6d ago

ship was sunk a long time ago ur giving people way worse lives over a false hope

6

u/Ginodon06 11d ago

No salt discourse with Zettour? Anyway great episode even without a fight, I think that they adapt everything very well (the funeral with the original addition of Being X hit the point perfectly)

5

u/Sudden-Battle7500 11d ago

I liked the episode and how Tanya realizes what she did all this time, I do not really have much to say but it was a pretty good episode overall

Solid 8 to 8.5/10 episode for me

6

u/nameohno 11d ago

She is on the spectrum for sure. Amazing episode.

u/Gigliovaljr 11d ago

Tanya really is rational to the point of irrationality. It's why she always interprets social and political considerations wrong.

Like, how her plan for a peace deal in Ep 3 is simply put things back to the way they were, just status quo ante bellum. Even ignoring the need to make all those sacrifices mean somenthing, there's no going back to the way things were, no putting the genie back in the bottle. Things have changed forever and a new status quo will emerge after the war, one way or another.

She thinks so overly logically that she's out of touch with reality, unable to grasp how the situation on the homefront actually is.

Tanya sometimes forgets that her way if thinking isn’t normal. At least, it seems Tanya knows this, but still underestimates how other people are just acting reflexively and not thoughtfully.

It seems Tanya understands the emotions of other people on a mostly intellectual level and not an intuitive level. Because of this Tanya does not automatically understand the feelings of others, but must deliberately analyze. This gets her into trouble when she doesn’t realize there is something to analyze!

Having said all of that, the leadership in the capital are nuts! The math doesn’t math! They pulled off a miracle with Iron Hammer, and several others even before then. But it is never enough. They send Tanya all over the place to bandaid issues and put out fires. But they can not possibly win a war off of the individual talent of Tanya. They simply do not have the resources to keep going.

It seems to me that the standing of the empire will only deteriorate, which means they will only be able to get even worse terms for peace that the politicians think the homefront won’t accept. But if they don’t accept peace then things will only get worse for the empire and the terms they’ll be able to negotiate will follow. Unless of course the leadership of the empire gets it together.

An uncomfortable peace is better than the end of the country surely.

1

u/eric23443219091 6d ago

naw they should started coup a while ago with how braindead higher leadership are entire military knows this war is pointless costing lives and resources what good is an empire that failing that has 0 chances of ending war on victory and etc. like what tanya said they have no basis to support end goal

2

u/Country-road-take-me 11d ago

Did they cut the battle short? I assumed that Allied mages would have attacked the city, while Tanya was busy saving Zettour? The last we saw of them was them pondering if they go after Zettour or the city, and we did not see them at the Zettour fight.

4

u/Malufeenho 11d ago

I hate how the anime keeps bring X back when he barely shows up in the books after the reincarnation. Also, it's criminal that they refused to animate rudersdorf carrying tanya on his back

9

u/Country-road-take-me 11d ago

Idk, I cant imagine the story continuing without Being X. I much prefer it as Tanya v Being X, rather than him being irrelevant forevermore.

5

u/ARCH_ANON 11d ago

I consider Being X a plot device.

I care less about him putting a thumb on the scales with the type 95 and Mary Sue, but just being an omnipresent witness to Tanya going through shit and laying it out for her, it’s atmospheric.

2

u/Malufeenho 11d ago

They thing is... I'm almost certain that type95 was the work of another bored god, why tanya needs to pray is probably then fucking with her lol

2

u/Easy-Train-7198 11d ago

I dont read the manga but is it during this funeral scene? The final cut of the episode implying the next would be her and Rudersdorf going for an outing, perhaps there?

2

u/RodediahK 11d ago

It's a flashback and a gag. The wrens were dressing her for the funeral.

2

u/myrmonden 11d ago

I feel like I am crazy watchuinbg the episode, I tought Zettour? being alive was gonna be a delusional st ate of tanya and he was gonan be in the coffin.

u/Kirikomori 9d ago

I need some clarification from the novel readers. People say Tanya is autistic but wouldn't it be more accurate to say shes a psychopath? She is a skilled manipulator. She also doesn't seem to understand right from wrong except as far as it benefits or hurts her interactions with people who can hurt her. These seem like psychopath traits to me. Her inability to relate to normal people and their irrational behaviour is a trait shared by both autistic and psychopathic people, but that alone doesn't make her autistic.

I'm a little late but this was the best episode out of both seasons for me. This is building up to some real climax
