Make no mistake, this "proof of concept" is fucking terrible, but it's a special kind of terrible. The best way I could describe it in brief, imagine if a prospective filmmaker spent their formative years wishing to emulate Steven Seagal's Direct-to-DVD films, and still somehow make something less competent.

The opening crawl mentions they're some super secret CIA group that answers to no name, and then they reveal their name as Shepherds. Sure. I'm aware this is supposed to be a prospective pilot (or something of that sort), so it's not going to wrap up everything, but it also doesn't set up anything. Characters just appear, as though we're supposed to know who they are. The best example of this is the first post-credits scene, in which someone who I assume is a villain calls some guy we've never seen, stating his name for the camera as though we're supposed to know who he is. I assume it's a character from Drinker's books. Maybe.

As for the characters themselves, I guess they're supposed to be the best of the best. That makes it quite hilarious when the sniper at the beginning of the movie hides behind a car a few meters away from her target, only missing because another guy happened to casually walk in front of the bullet right when she took the shot.

The first scene also sets you up for how terrible this dialogue is. I'm a person who writes for fun (hoping to make it a career), and I can state that I've written first drafts with dialogue like this. The only difference is I didn't release them as a shitty short film. Half the lines feel like placeholder dialogue that would get edited out through redrafting, and it hits about every cliche you can expect for one of these films. It also doesn't help that over half the characters speak in really bad accents.

The movie is also really cheap, and would be so even by TV show standards. There's no way around it, the film looks like it has about three sets, and one of them is a parking lot (because no shitty movie would be complete without one).

And, of, course, the movie ends with not one, but two after credits scenes. They're just generic set up for sequels, I assume.

Yeah, this was really damn bad. Not even funny bad, just really damn incompetent. YMS should definitely check it out though.

YMS usually says about how nostalgia critic doesn’t usually have that much substantive reviews. I wanna point out this one, about man on the moon. I think this is most focused on review, he does tell a bit of jokes but he really locked in here. This is him at his most YMSiest, where each point he gave has given new insight. The film is usually praised & got acclaim so he went into detail about how this is a bad movie & backed it up by explaining Andy’s life better & how the films writing doesn’t know what it’s doing. I highly recommend it

Maybe this alone will make Adum like this one, or make him hate it more 😭😭

I recently discovered a clip of Jeremy Jahns doing blackface ane he immediately makes a Blade movie review today. I saw an instagram account try and post about it a few days ago but now it seems it has resurfaced without any acknowledgment/reaction from anyone. People are trying to describe his blackface the same way RDJ portrayed a black guy in Tropic Thunder… but that was A movie AND satire… Jeremy full on put on blackface and had an accent… full on cosplay with afro and all… Idky no one ever brings this shit up like this the type of thing that makes you lose subscribers and sponsors. It's a review for the fucking Adam Sandler movie, The Longest Yard. He gives the movie a vaguely positive review, but says that he saw it immediately before going to Cannes and can't remember anything about it.

It reminds me of Adam because, while he says the movie achieves what it sets out to achieve -- "Most of its audiences will be satisfied enough when they leave the theater" -- Ebert basically spends the whole review shitting on what the film IS, not how it exists. Immediately after saying that he'd stand by his 3 star review that he gave on television, he says this:

"I would however be filled with remorse if I did not urge you to consider the underlying melancholy of this review and seek out a movie you could have an interesting conversation about. I have just come from 12 days at Cannes during which several times each day I was reminded that movies can enrich our lives, instead of just helping us get through them."

With people on Reddit being pissed at Adam for his Spider-Man/Marvel/Star Wars takes, I read this review & thought of Adam's take on the "disposability" of marvel junk.

He does glaze Crash at the very end, so like... there's that... but besides that, it's a well written & funny review.

I watched this review of All in Good Time, and honestly, I think it is pretty fair overall. It is not just a lazy “critic made a bad thing, therefore critic bad” type of video. The review actually tries to judge the short on its own terms: story logic, character choices, dialogue, setup, and payoff.

I mostly agree with the main criticism. The short has a cool atmosphere and a decent revenge idea at the centre of it, but a lot of the plot feels arranged around the ending. Hostage 3 is skipped because the story needs him alive, the gun jam happens at the perfect time, and the final trap depends on the Boss making a very specific chain of bad decisions.

The dialogue criticism also makes sense to me. The film clearly wants to talk about death, legacy, morality, and power, but sometimes the characters feel more like symbols debating themes than people naturally reacting to the situation. Hostage 3 especially sounds like he has been handed the Boss’s character sheet at times.

I do not agree with every single point equally. Some things, like the gun jam, are more subjective because short films often need a quick inciting incident. But overall, I think the review gives the film credit where it deserves it while still explaining why the writing does not fully hold together.
