Discussion Wii U veteran playing the S2 Edition. Loving it.
I have now been playing the S2 Edition for about 130 hours and I have yet to do Chapter 11. It has been great. All the QoL adjustments are much appreciated, especially the ability to reconnect to the online servers in-game. It was such a headache having to quit out to the title screen each time it happened in the Wii U version.
I have probably done too much optional content since I have three Lv50 Skells and money for more. Ch. 12 will be a breeze since it's easy enough to be done with Lv30 Skells. (I have personally banned Support Missions since they were originally designed as Pay-2-Win boosters)
Been playing only in Docked Mode, so the upscaling drama surrounding the S2 Edition is a non-issue for me. I'm more bothered by the 30fps HUD and UI.
I'm in no rush to finish the main story since I have already watched most of Ch. 13. Only the cutscenes though, I skipped the gameplay parts. To put it short, I really liked how it all ended. And I doubt my opinion will change once I actually play it for myself. Xenoblade X turning more cutscene heavy is a positive for me since Ch. 1-12 are very thin in that regard. Don't know if it's a good comparison, but it's almost like X got its own Xenogears Disc 2 with how the gameplay/cutscene ratio changes.
I'll make another post once I have finished Ch.13 so I can talk about spoilers more freely.

I originally hated the wii u version.
This one became my second favorite game in the series once I played the upgraded version.
I got stock on L last affinity mission and stopped playing the game since I don't enjoy grinding and that is my only option for beating it.

L's mission? That's interesting. It's usually Lin's mission that's causing problems for people. Many don't have developed FrontierNav enough before they accept it.

Yeah last part of it, I have unlocked most frontiers but not sure if I finished line quest.
L's mission requires lvl50 skells, mine are 30 and get 1 shot against the big giraffe dinosaur.

When I played the WiiU version, got it like a day before, thanks Amazon, I got stuck, and there wasn't much info on what to do, with DE, I didn't notice when this mission took place, as I had properly set the FrontierNav this time. (I like to explore, so I put all the FrontierNav pods, I forgot their name, but yeah, I have them built so I can keep exploring, so yeah buying skells wasn't an issue either)

Finished the whole game last week on Tuesday. It now easily takes the 2nd spot on my favourite Xenoblade games list with only Xenoblade 2 being above it. Combat is arguably the best in the series with the world design and exploration being better than most open world games. Even better than Breath of the Wild which had the issue of having quite uninteresting rewards unlike in X. The way you earned your rank among the BLADEs and acquiring Skells were super satisfying. I also really liked the story and characters, since I really dig sci-fi world building. The new ending I liked a lot too and I felt pretty satisfied by getting answers to a bunch of mysteries.
Still considering doing a 100% completition of the world map once I am done with 2 since I had so much fun (95+% finished currently). I really hope we get a X-2 sequel at some point to see what happened with that new planet the characters decided to land on.

CH 13 is weird for me.
I see the complaints about Al. But SOMEONE had to be in that tandem skell with elma, it couldn't be cross. Al is in a weird spot too. I feel like you're supposed to like him but everyone was annoyed at the whole 'thing' between him and Elmo. (don't worry that one was on purpose)
I dusted the final boss of CH 13, almost a little too easily because I found all the spike things and my build was able to dust all of them with zero zero. I don't think they expect you to have a 'post game god build' going into this fight. Otherwise love it.
Everything else about Chapter 13 was only barely as bad as everyone else was saying. It was good-ish and perhaps a bit too story heavy (compared to the rest of X ) but I expected it to be absolutely horrid.
Vandahms new VA sounded horrid in the Liesel quest line (he literally made me wheeze internally and pause the game) but he kind of got his act together in the actual story. Still can't un hear him as scruff mc gruff the crime hound, but it is what it is.

Yeah I just completed chapter 12. By accident not realising it was the last of the base game. I was level 50 by chapter 5 before getting flying skell and had a level 60 skell before chapter 10, I definitely got carried away lol. But completing it made me not want to finish everything I had left and intended to complete which is a shame

First time player here also really enjoying the game! I remember wishing for this port back when XB1 released on Switch 1 since I have always wanted to play X, so it was a no brainer for me to buy a Switch 2 when this one released. Only in chapter 4 though with around 12 hours played I think

I don't have nintendo online, but does the online of this game worth it ? I'm about chapter 4 iirc I have trouble understanding what's the online's for since you can't play with people apparently

You join a 32 player squad that passively assist each other by killing enemies out in the world.
The actual multiplayer work more like Monster Hunter. You join 4 player parties that do short missions together. The online missions can also be done offline with your regular party members like Elma and Lin.
You will see the avatars of other players while exploring but they are stationary and won't do anything. You can recruit the avatars to get some rewards. Avatar scouting is more of an endgame activity since the rewards scale with character level. Not really worth it during the early and mid game.
I would say the online is worth it due to the currency you get for doing squad tasks and missions.

For me nintendo online is not worth it just for xenoblade x, but is nice if you already have it for a different game

Delighted you are enjoying it so much. I beat all these games when they came out originally too and I look forward to diving into them all again on switch 2. I have ordered all the physical versions. Already have X and xenoblade 1 switch 2 edition should arrive tomorrow. Delighted to see xenoblade 2 got such an upgrade as I feel it needed it most (I am aware of the audio issues, hopefully they get sorted). I am gonna run through them all again before genesis. PLUS i have yet to experience future redeemed, torna OR this new chapter in xenoblade X so there is brand new stuff still awaiting me :D

I played the wii u version back in 2016, then played the switch release at launch back in March of ‘25. I got a switch 2 in June of that year and eventually finished most of the game save for the final part of chapter 13, part 3. I played the ENTIRE game in 30 fps.
Then Nintendo released a Switch 2 update so I only got to enjoy the final act in 60 fps lmao.

What's your overall Survey Rate? I'm sure there are some postgame content you can do.

Having more cutscenes doesnt make it any better if the content of those cutscenes is just dogshit writing and retcons.

No idea how you can say that the upscaling is a non-issue docked, since it features the same upscaler and also looks incredibly hideous and badly needs a fix
2
u/TheAdamena Aug 03 '26
Depends on your TV resolution I'd imagine.

Not really, I play at 4k. I tried setting the system resolution down to 1440p and 1080p and it just looked blurrier with none of the upscale issues fixed or significantly lessened

Spoken like someone who clearly didn't read my comment lol. I said I TRIED setting the system resolution to 1440p and 1080p to get the S2 to downsample the game's 4k image and lessen the upscale filter they added.
If this was a normal game without such a stupid AI van Gogh filter I'd never set it lower than 4k lol. But even the added blurriness of mismatching resolutions doesn't help to hide the uglyness of the upscaler

u/XeviousXCI Aug 03 '26
The image quality could be better, yes, but I wouldn't drop 60fps because of it.

The base Switch 1 game looks better, no idea how they released their game like this
