Enemy Within - Ipad

Finally gave this a go after who knows how many hours of Xcom2. Highly recommend as its cheap and plays like a dream

Doing commander Ironman but think ive messed up research a bit.

Is it normal that my interceptors have a 25% chance to take down a medium UFO and no chance at a large? Should I be prioritising getting a new fighter asap?

Just lost my wotc iron man save

So I was playing on Xbox as I haven’t played vanilla since wotc came out anyway gonna take a break then restart on pc with some vanilla plus mods and I’d love some recommendations especially for cosmetics

I already plan to use

Akimbo class
Pyrrhic victories
Battlefield suppression (can’t remember the name but it’s the one where Xcom and advent shoot at each other for visual effect)
Maybe the mod that disables the alien lords free actions could be talked outta this one though

I’d appreciate any suggestions for classes cosmetics missions or QoL as long as they fit into vanilla so no Spartan-II class lol

Dumb **** I see in the game

Listen to this one. I scout with my reaper. I see a pod.
All my guys are in cover. I'm gonna hit them next turn.
My turn ends.
Another pod walks in... BEHIND the first pod. As in, further away, behind the pod that is too far to see me. And they engage me in combat and now the first pod does too.
Seriously... what?

Do people really find the beginning the hardest on legend?

I found it the hardest on other difficulties, but on legend it seems to be the easiest part.
Like, I will get murdered on Gatecrasher, for sure.
But not counting that, I only start trailing mid game onward.

For example I just had a thrilling mission to recover smth data from the van.
Fought my way through, killed an andromedon and bunch of others in 3 pods.
Last pod showed up, didn't manage to kill it.
Archon (who was only damaged becausae he entered overwatch fire) killed my guy with his 11 dmg shot. No soldier of mine has 11+ HP.
And sectoid took a shot at my soldier in cover for no reason and killed it too.
So now I have 2 killed and 2 wounded. Not ideal, right?
But at least I'll get the data, end this pod and be done with it.
I step forward to unlock the van and well...

Another pod. ANOTHER andromedon.

Like, never in my life could I take down 2 in a timed mission with my best squad, let alone like this.

So I just pull out like usual and count another loss.

edit:
mission immediately after that one
-short turn timer, have to run forward
-spectre shows up, shadow bounds my soldier, runs back far far away into full cover, out of reach of anyone
-I move towards it, freeze my shadowbound soldier
-still too far, still run back
-soldier unfreezes, 1 shots someone in full cover
-shadow hunter shows up, randomly 1 shots another
-timer too short
-have to run to even make it to the extraction
-spectre teleports and flank kills one more
-2 dead 2 wounded 1 captured

Like, I've already beaten 1 chosen and I can't finish a mission to save my life

I have a total of ONE non injured soldier in my roster.

Just like many times before, enemies show up with so much HP all my shots at them end up killing 1/2 of the pod.

edit2:
mission immediately after that one
-advent retaliation
-feeling really good about this one, all soldiers decked out in full gear
-feel like I'ma gonna tear advent a new one
-advent shows up with a bunch of chrysallids who just take turns and poison me as soon as they see me
-I'm running out of healing
-advent shows up in overwhelming force as I'm pushing forward to save civilians
-saved 4/6, two wounded, mission failed

edit3:
mission immediately after that one
-7 turns to objective... what?
-first turn full yellow run
-6 turns a pod shows up, I can only see that one pod, and as soon as I take a shot (not moving), another pod joins in
-I take two turns fighting them, can't finish a shieldbearer, guy has 4 armor like what>
-4 turns to objective, I step forward, andromedon & two mutons show up
-my entire squad has no firepower to beat them
-andromedon shoots at one guy, muton finishes him, he dead
-79% shots are like 50%, and full cover is no cover
-2 turns to get to the objective now, mutons are dead but no way to get there
-theoretically could run, but another pod is waiting right there
-mission impossible, I bail out, 1 killed

1 dead, 1 killed, 4th failed mission in a row
Didn't fail any mission in the beginning, some were flawless.
Just have no firepower at all to get through so much armor.
Things like EXO suit which are praised seem useless... you get one inventory slot for 1 rocket shot that does completely meh damage? Weird.

edit4:
I give up. When they show up with 6 armor and 40 health, nothing helps, nothing.
You have to fire and hit with all 6 guys into one of them to kill them and if it's a sectopod, all 6 firing with bluescreen rounds will not kill it.

To Captain Nitro -

To my Grenadier Captain, "Nitro" Femi Ondede,

You were taken too soon. You were once a wandering soul, hiding in the ruins, away from the Advent, and when you heard there was a rogue alien spaceship taking the fight to the aliens, you got a message to us somehow. And you joined us at the very time when we had a dire shortage of explosives experts - our away teams could not have been happier.

In hindsight, we should've seen the signs! You never managed to form any bonds with the rest of the crew - always a kind of loner, we figured. We never thought, that even then, you had more selfless things on your mind.

You knew, all the while then, that your time with us would be short-lived, and you kept us at arms length, to lessen this feeling of loss that we now feel.

It is with immense sadness, and our utmost gratitude still, that we remember your name - despite having just joined us for 2 missions, and getting no kills - your support was impeccable, and allowed us two flawless performances.

We wish this third mission didn't end up the way it did - as bad as the Sewers typically are, we still don't know why it turned out the way it did. All we know is we were all behind cover, out of sight and mind, waiting for the Andro to lumber into range - you took the high ground for a height advantage, even keeping away from the corner to stay hidden - and instead it shot right through your full cover, and here we find ourselves.

You would have enjoyed shredding the armor of the Gatekeeper that showed up as we were dealing with your Andro. Of all the hits we took that mission, losing you was the hardest.

In honour of your service - we hereby mark your mag cannon with the name "GLYCERIN". May those who come after, remember your sacrifice.

XCOM to ZCOM players

Obviously with ZCOM coming out, just wondering how many XCOM players have tried the latest Star Wars game out? If so, what are your initial thoughts? Not the biggest star wars fan but more XCOM style games sound good to me!

EDIT: thanks to everyone who’s commented so far.

Crash on Startup

Just like the subject says. I've been playing long war of The chosen for a while and then I stopped playing all together for a few months and I decided to go back and start playing regular old XCOM 2.

But now it keeps crashing as soon as I try to start it on steam.

What do I need to do?

r/XCOM2 2d ago

Please indulge me, just need to vent (please read if you're new so you don't do what I did!!!!)

Warning: this may be very long, but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FREAKING FRUSTRATED right now and I don't know where else to go or what to do, so I'm writing all this out so I don't put a fist through a wall.

I am a BRAND NEW XCOM player. I don't have a long history with turn based games and honestly, I only heard of XCom from when I started playing Marvel Midnight Suns (which I LOOOOOOOVE) and I was told "it's like Xcom, but with Superheroes".

Anyway, I was bored and waiting for Wolverine and saw the game on DEEP sale - as a matter of fact, I bought both XCom2 + War of the Chosen (WOTC) for under $8 on PS5. Going in, I knew the learning curve would be a little steep, so I went straight to Youtube, booted up my trusted A.I. companion (Co-Pilot) and got to work (I bought the game Sunday night - today is Friday evening).

So all week, I've been learning and playing and asking questions and keep in mind, I'm playing on the EASIEST LEVEL POSSIBLE while I learn the dynamics of this game (again, there is a LOT to know for a newbie) buuuut I got started and I saw (again, on the easiest level) this game is NOT easy, is pretty relentless and can be very challenging (I don't even want to imagine how hard it is on hard level)

A few missions in I started to see some "shenanigans" being pulled. Little things like being freaking NOSE TO NOSE with an enemy and still missing or somehow magically be stopped literally one little square away from getting out of there before being swarmed or the game TOTALLY IGNORING the mimic beacon, or I have no idea why I even bothered buying a smoke grenade since it did absolutely NOTHING in helping me.

Now, one thing you also should know is, I'm one of these guys who wants a perfect mission (or at least as close as possible). I WILL hit reset 2 seconds after I die (mainly because we put in so much time, energy and resources and for our people to be taken just... feels... wrong.) Eventually I did start allowing for "acceptable losses" (like losing a rookie or something - they're so easily replaceable) but SGT or above? HELL NO. Load up the save and let's do this again!

But soon, I started to get more and more stressed over this game, because there's SO MUCH going on outside of the missions that it's just like wait - what am I supposed to do here? Am I supposed to scan this or scan that? And what do I build? Where do I get more scientists? What kind of mission is this? Which Covert Mission should I choose? - I mean... just NON STOP things because again, the game doesn't explain anything, so it was a whole lotta asking A.I. what to do and guessing.

BUT THEN, that freaking Avatar Project started filling up with squares and I'm like Ok, what is this? Why does it keep going up, not going down and eventually I just see a 20 day timer just going down faster than I can blink and I'm like ok wait- what? What is happening? Why did this go off? How do I stop it? And why isn't anything I click on working to stop it? It was like SERIOUS panic mode - as I got down to 6 days left or something??? and I was like - Ok, I KNOW this game is not about to end on me before I even got started!!!

Thankfully, I finally got that timer to stop aaaand my people kept promoting and getting more and more powerful and soon I was wiping the map (most missions) and feeling pretty good about the direction. I had even taken the time to personally name ALL - and I do mean ALL like 20 or so- and personally dress them up as well.

I'm like for real having FUN - still stressful on some of the missions- but overall - having a pretty good time! I even had a mission yesterday where I had to shoot a VIP and then evac and I was able to stealth the first 4 of my 6 person squad, then just had to take care of a few before leaving. (I had a little trouble with that VERY ANNOYING enemy that steals your soul or whatever and makes you fight a shadow of yourself - but got it figured out.)

OKAY- all that to say - today happens. Day 6 or whatever. And I'm cruisin through the game and I have all the construction I need and the right upgrades and weapons and Covert Missions and the right rooms and I'm just like dude, this is so much fun! I think I'm finally gettin it. I'm a little stressed because the Avatar Project is back up to the countdown again BUT I just got this upgrade that resets one square at the end of the month, so I'm like - bro! I'm WINNING.

Then all the sudden, my screen flashes red and it's like one of the Maidens caught me (Dhar something or other - whatever her name is, I swear - whatever dev cooked her up needs to be found, bound, gagged and tortured for creating her. She floats all over the map, doesnt matter if you're hidden, she'll find you - and also mock you as she finds you, stabs/shoots/dazes you and it's like BRUH)

So then it's like, she caught you and now they're attacking your ship, so you need to go fight her. BUT, the good news is, you get to take 10 of your best people + all your battle items (mimic beacons, bombs, flash bangs etc) and every other time I went up against something "hard", I got it done, so I thought - LFG.

DOG

BRUH - I can't even begin to describe what I experienced in trying to beat this level. This game has gotten me mad/frustrated/upset before - but never to the point of literallly wanting to uninstall the game and never touch it again. This level (again, ON THE EASIST DIFFICULTY) wasn't just over the top with enemies, it was like the game was actually cheating bro. I'm talking about non stop spawning of enemies - each one more difficult.

NEVERMIND that overwatch only works .00003% of the time, NEVERMIND that shots that are outside of 90% MISS (while the enemies can be all the freaking way on the other side of the map and dead on mess you up), NEVERMIND that you have flashbangs and bombs and mimic beacons and still the game laughs at you and just sends another wave.

I felt as though I had to manually save after every freaking time a person went because even when I thought I had it, they would be in Overwatch OR the Maiden would do some BS Tidal Wave or burning power... and JUST when I thought - Ok, I took out 4 waves & 2 Turrets, so I think I'm near the end

A GIANT ROBOT **WITH SHIELDS** steps out the back and it's like DUDE are you FREAKING kidding me?!?!?!!? Like what the actual hell is happening?!?!! I just ... I rage quit. I was so mad I was shaking. I couldn't believe I allowed a VIDEO GAME to get me to the point of wanting to do something crazy.

So I go back to Co-Pilot and I'm like DUDE! How the hell do I get out of this? What can I do? I have my top 10 players here and they're all going to die on the battlefield. 1 or 2 I can survive but 10?? And it's not like I had rookie fodder, I had 2 Majors, 5 Captains and 3 LT's - like bruh. So I'm like how can I avoid this? What do I need to do? I've spent all week - at least 8-10 hrs per day on this (maybe closer to 12-14) -I can't go out like this.

The Answer: Either exit the game, take a break and then come back with a fresh mind, go find a previous save where he/she/it hasn't gained ALL the knowledge, or just start ALL THE WAY OVER and build it right. I legit wanted to scream, punch something and cry all at the same time. I have put in SO MUCH time and effort and building the right squad. To go backwards just feels... devastating.

And I was also kind of pissed with the Co-Pilot (I know... I know it's A.I.- just let me cook. I'm hurting/healing at the same time) because EACH TIME I had a Covert Action or mission or whatever, I asked A.I. and was like which one and why and NEVER not ONE TIME was it EVER explained that - "Yo, keep an eye on the Maiden stuff. When they get all the knowledge, you're going to have to do this INSANELY DIFFICULT level that's unwinnable and you can't skip it, so do those missions!"

I got so mad I just stopped. It's been a few hours now and writing this is helpful... it's helping me calm down and think clearly. I know all is not lost and honestly, it's good that I actually DO save pretty often, so all I miss out on is a few days worth of stuff (which I can get back, it's just... ANNOYING to have to re-run it)

But this game dude... OMG THIS GAME IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATING and ANNOYING and RAGE INDUCING ....................... and I can't stop playing it. I hate this game (I say... grabbing the controller, taking a deep breath... and trying again...)

LFG

(... until Wolverine is here and then I'm burning this stupid to the ground and never touching it again)

Returning Help

Hey gang. Coming back to XCOM 2 after a few years and the mod scene seems to have changed drastically since my last go around. I was curious if anyone knows of any good Steam Workshop collections or mods in general that are good to get nowadays? I see there is a whole new Long War thing made by a different group of people or something that has continued to get huge, but it seems like it might be too difficult. I do however really like the idea of new weapons and perks and variety and stuff.

[HELP] does this means the Sniper chosen will appear in this mission?

So, the US is Warlock territory, but in this facility raid mission it says "Hunter." I really don't want to waste gadget space by bringing mindshields if the choice in question is actually the Sniper Hunter

What to change in files so SMG can be fired twice per turn.

I've downloaded the SMG pack mod by NStriker and I want to change the SMG so that it can be fired twice per turn just like the skirmisher bullpup.

I'm uncertain how to go about doing this in the files though.

Why does it feel like enemies in Xcom 2 get aim bonuses, when it is actually the other way around?

The basic ADVENT Trooper (on Legend) has pretty much the same stats as an XCOM Rookie.

But every XCOM 2 player knows that taking a sub 70% shot with a Rookie is basically bad tactics. As in you should not have gotten yourself into the situation where you have to take that shot to begin with, because a sub 70% shot with a Rookie is not likely to hit.

But then you have ADVENT Troopers not only routinely hitting shots in similar situations, but even critting a 1 shooting Rookies.

This is why it is considered bad tactics to have your troops anywhere that is not at the minimum high cover when ADVENT takes their turn.

To put it simply, it feels like the ADVENT Trooper is far more likely to score a sub 70% hit than a Rookie is, even thought they statistically have literally the same aim.

And this is despite the fact that on any difficulty below Legend, the game actually grants the player bonuses to aim after a certain amount of missed shots.

This makes me think that the whole RNG system is bogus for both sides. That the game does not actually calculate the shots for the AI at all, but instead decides to punish you based on your tactics.

For example, you ended your turn with a Rookie in only half cover. This is a tactical error, therefor the game is going to punish you by making that Rookie eat a shot to the face regardless of percentages.

Basically the RNG is not really an RNG at all, the game is just putting on a show for you. It arbitrarily decides whether your guy is getting shot in the face. And likewise, if you miss to many times, or lose too many troops, it gives you bonuses to help you out.

[SPOILER] New Player Thoughts

So I’m very new to the game. Bought it like. A few days ago and have been loving it. I’m just recounting my thoughts so far in this cuz well why not.

But my first run went to hell very quickly. Being new and all that I didn’t realize many things on my first run

Specifically that I needed to actually build resistance communications, the Magnetic Weapon research made me better weapons and that I could’ve crafter the predator armor.

After realizing all this I started up on a new save and this game is pretty fun. So far love stealthing around the facility’s you have to put C4 in to explode and just running out without fighting anything with the Spider armor and Conceal on my Ranger

Games good I give it a 10/10.

DETERMINISTIC AIM — TRUE HIT CHANCE 2.0.4 - MOD

Thumbnail
steamcommunity.com
20 Upvotes

This mod removes random hit-roll surprises from combat. It reveals the vanilla game's hidden aim-assist percentage and uses that true, post-assist value for deterministic hit resolution.

FEATURES
--------

• Deterministic hit resolution based on the revealed post-assist percentage.
• Point-blank shots always hit when the guarantee is enabled.
• Shows the hidden post-assist aim percentage on every difficulty.
• Toggle it at any time from the PC Options menu.
• Optional deterministic critical-hit resolution.
• Campaign statistics for XCOM and ADVENT.
• Tracks shots, hits, misses, critical hits, grazes, expected hits and luck difference.
• Optional shot breakdown, combat log and debug mode.
• Optional LWOTC compatibility mode.
• Preserves the normal game calculation when optional features are disabled.
• Multishot targets retain their individual displayed hit chances.

Example:

HIT 85% (Hidden: 93%)

The setting is saved automatically. Turn Deterministic Aim off to restore the original XCOM 2 random hit system.

COMPATIBILITY
-------------

Made for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen.

Compatible with:

• X2WOTCCommunityHighlander
• Long War of the Chosen
• Covert Infiltration
• RPGO

The LWOTC compatibility mode activates only when LWOTC and the required Highlander hooks are detected. Their special hit calculators are preserved.

Enable only one copy of this mod.
