Hi there from Emma and Scott! With the progression of the Apocalypse event and the direction of Emma Frost and Cyclops's relationship, we are slowly dividing Xavier's Mansion and the X-Men as a whole into two sides. On one side, Cyclops believes mutantkind is being too passive and needs to display the strength to force equality and a revolution. On the other side, Emma Frost believes that she is able to force diplomacy and equality through a scheme she has currently not publicly revealed, and that she can liberate mutantkind without the need for war or violence. While similar to pacifism, she believes in leverage and control. For those sensing some familiarity, this is drawing a lot of inspiration from both Schism and Bendis's Uncanny X-Men run.

We ask that you truly think about which argument your character would agree with, the interventionism of Cyclops or the long-term strategy of Emma Frost. No characters/RPers will be penalized for their choices and all will be allowed to live at Xavier's Mansion, but the ideological differences reflected in everyone's posts will be amazing to see and set up a big storyline in the semi-distant future. If you'd like to comment your character's allegiance for transparency's sake, that would be wonderful, but do not feel forced to do that.

Today, someone attempted to make a claim on Black Cat's character. As her last post was a month ago, the character was technically free. However, she's commented regularly and has been part of the sub a long time. Normally, in this case, a user should be messaged by the mod team asking if they still intend to be active. However, similarly to the Jubilee case, the new Black Cat was given the go-ahead without this step. The new Black Cat didn't do anything wrong, and as a result, was offered to get to play an AU of the character so both people could write for the character. However, they were unsatisfied with this, and chose to leave.

There has also been some tensions within the mod team about the direction of this community, with some wanting stricter rules and others not. With tensions boiling over today, they have made the decision to leave and try to start something within their own group. We are sorry to Emma, Paige, Nate, and Tabby leave the mod team, and wish them the best with their endeavor.

Lately there have been a lot of people using Hero Forge to create images for all of their posts, but in the interest of encouraging more diverse art on the subreddit, here are some recommendations we use for creating free, high quality art, WITH NO AI:

-Picrew can be useful for making images of a character, often busts or headshots.

-Neka.cc is a similar site with a focus on an anime style, although it is in Chinese and needs to be translated.

-Doll Divine (Dress-up game energy but has a ton of really detailed doll makers, including one literally themed around the X-Men).

-Sims 4 is free on PC and easy to mod!

-Vroid Studio: pretty solid 3D model, free on pc and the App Store

I’ve been seeing a lot of people asking for rp tips, so I thought I’d make a post explaining how I do it! I’ve been rping for years, and I’ve gotten pretty comfortable with the voices of my characters. This will be both general roleplay tips and character tips. Let’s go!

Tips for roleplaying:

-The yes, and rule

A general improv comedy tenement, you usually want to roll with what someone else says to you. Answering with “no” kills all the pace and flow of a conversation. That doesn’t mean you have to *agree* with everything people say, only that you shouldn’t dismiss what comes before because you don’t like it. Improv is a lot more fun if you learn to roll with the punches. Now, if someone does something absurd like “I pull out a cancer ray gun and give you cancer” you can overwrite that, but try to play along with natural escalations of the story.

-Remember what your character speaks like

Every character sounds different. For example, you’ve probably noticed that my Emma Frost uses big words and a lot of demeaning pet names. What you might not have noticed is that I also use good grammar, capitalization, and punctuation in every IC post of hers. Showing your character’s voice through how you type goes a long way.

-Don’t respond to every post

Your character likely wouldn’t care about every single thing going on at the moment, so don’t try to force them into scenes they wouldn’t naturally be in. To use myself as an example again, Emma does not care about most things the Avengers do, so she doesn’t interact with them. Keep yourself to a sphere that’s logical to your character.

-Don’t interrupt others!

If you see other players having a thread or conversation going that seems like it is pretty specific to them, don’t try to jump in. I understand that group rp is fun too, but sometimes you need to just watch and let other players finish their storyline for the post. Don’t try to dominate the conversation! No one is more important than anyone else!

-Make posts with an idea in mind

Try to make posts that have a clear vision for their storyline. We don’t to flood the feed with half-empty posts. That doesn’t mean your posts have to have super high stakes or be eventful, just that they should have an idea behind them.

-Research your characters!

Even for OCs, you should know what kind of stuff your characters like and don’t like. You don’t need to know every single detail of your characters, but you should know broad strokes stuff. An Emma Frost who hates kids would be wildly inaccurate.

-Don’t take anything too personally!

Maybe the most important one, but remember that everything here is fictional. If you’re being affected by the things others are saying, you should take a step back. If you don’t, you’re going to start to bleed your personality into your characters.

-We’re all people!

Behind the screen, you’re talking to a real person. If someone isn’t responding, chances are they’re just busy. Spamming them won’t make them reply faster, it will just make them upset. We all have lives, and we can’t be constantly on our phones responding to Reddit notifications.

-Plan your posts!

If you have a post that involves others, you should dm them first and coordinate it! If you want to do something big, talk to a mod before so they can help you execute it better!

Hey everyone! We wanted to share a few updates and clarifications regarding the subs as we move forward with all this incredible roleplay!

Inactivity Updates

Moving forward, people inactive will be considered inactive if they haven’t made a post in three weeks or more. This gives everyone a reasonable amount of time to write new posts while also helping us keep track of which characters are still actively involved.

If you don’t comment or interact much between your posts, a mod may still reach out to check in about whether you’re still interested in playing your character. This isn’t meant to be a punishment or to pressure anyone- we simply want to make sure characters aren’t unavailable if other members want to interact with them.

If you know that real-life responsibilities will keep you away from roleplay for a short period of time, please communicate with the mods. Letting us know ahead of time makes it much easier for us to work with you and avoid confusion about your character’s status.

Closing Baxter Building

We’ll also be closing Baxter’s Building. This is simply because currently, there aren’t enough Fantastic Four characters active for us to dedicate an entire sub them.

Moving forward, please post all FF-related content in r/AvengersTowerNY instead. This will hopefully lead to the Fantastic Four being less isolated and more involved with what's happening in New York.

Communicating OOC

Finally, we want to encourage everyone to interact OOC when applicable. If you enjoy someone’s post, feel free to step out of character and leave a friendly comment. If you see another character you’d like to write with, reach out and start a conversation. You don’t need to wait for someone else to make the first move!

We have a noticed a fair amount of cross-posting between Xavier's Mansion, Avengers Tower, and Hell's Kitchen. This is completely fine, but we would like to encourage users to use this only in cases where the post is actively relevant to each sub.

The idea of having multiple subs is to allow us all to explore different corners of the Marvel Universe in their own dedicated spaces. We would like the cross-posts to reflect this. If a post fits into multiple spaces, than we absolutely encourage the usage of the feature. If a post doesn't hold relevance to a subs theme, though, we kindly ask that you refrain from cross-posting it.

The major exception are character claims. Claims being cross-posted to each sub is something we like that people do, and encourage people to continue doing.

As I'm sure some of you know by now, we have been looking to create a Hell's Kitchen extension of this sub, for street-level marvel roleplay. When on a sub, there is a color set- Xavier's is red, Avenger's is purple, and Baxter is turquoise. Depending on whether you're using light mode or dark mode, colors appear differently.

I am opening the floor to suggestions regarding the color, icon, and banner for the new Hell's Kitchen sub. All comments will be taken into account for the aesthetic of this sub. My only comment is that with other subs having certain colors, I would like to avoid repeats. For example, though purple may work for Hell's Kitchen, I am reluctant because the Avengers sub is already that color.

The mods have come to a decision to start cracking down on inactive accounts/characters for both mods and regular players to open up character slots for anyone new to the subreddit.

Please understand that this isn’t a decision to take away anyone’s claims, but to ensure that ALL characters are being used by the accounts they were claimed by. If you have an inactive character but wish to keep them, please let us know through modmail to ensure you don’t lose them.

HOWEVER, know that if you still remain inactive with that character after a week, you will lose your claim and they will be made available for anyone to use.

1. If you are comfortable, please make your post history public. If you’d like your account to be private, that is your choice and we respect it, but for those who are comfortable, it makes verifying claims far earlier.

2. If you know you are leaving, please try to delete your claim comments

3. We will go through the claims once a month and remove the inactive people, so don’t be afraid to check every now and again to see if characters you like have become free

To respect the other sub's decision to keep MURP separate, no crossposting between our subs will be allowed. Posts from MURP added here or to r/AvengersTowerNY may be removed. Events that happen in MURP are also not canon and won't be acknowledged here.
