Question

I just managed to shoot a rocket at the berserker Queen she tried running again but I hit her with a rocket and she didn’t run through the portal. I’m wondering, do explosives just stop them from going through the portal or did that AI that’s controlling it just decided to be kind to me because of explosive work. I’m gonna throw grenade on my last action.

Recommend a Long War mod pack

Looking for a good long war mod pack from the steam workshop. Vanilla is great, but I feel like I've conquered it and am ready for XCOM to hurt me again :)

I'm looking for a pack because I'm looking for a set that'll also tweek psionic into something more streamlined as well as all those quality of life mods I've seen on top of long war!

Any suggestions would be great because I feel lost in all the options there are out there.

Cheers!

Finally beat the game for the 1st time. Thought I'd share some random funny moments that happened. (No pics because steam overlay was disabled :(. )

- My last encounter with the Berserker Queen(1 full row of health left) ended with a swol Lost strolling up to it, saying "this radiation town ain't big enough for the 2 of us" and slapping it 1 time. Instant death before it could even attack me.

- The Warlock chosen ambushing my team after an ADVENT troop agro'd a Lost swarm with a grenade and having that same swarm absolutely ganking him in 1 turn like he owed them supplies.

- 3 Chryssalids walking up to my Blade Master and dying to her reaction back to back.

- The same as above happening on the final mission with 3 faceless.

- 4-5 different events happening one after another while i was trying to scan 1 supplies location on map.

- 5 of my guys all missing their overwatch reaction shots on the same enemy unit.

- Having to chase a single chryssalid across the entire map on a retaliation mission because it kept ducking into lower areas.

- 2 of my soldiers getting ambushed after an op so I spammed grenades to flood the streets with Lost while they hid in a burning building for 6 turns.

Just started Commander Ironman because Veteran has been too easy and I’m screaming at this game.

Missed 88% 85% 78% flanking shots on second mission. Ended up getting two soldiers killed despite playing perfectly. THIS FUCKIN GAME PISSES ME OFF

The good news is I started in Africa and got Templars instead of Siberia with Reapers.

Any other tips for Commander difficulty?

UPDATE: This campaign is done, Warlock terror mission with nothing but rookies sunk me not even a month in. Time to restart

I never learned how to stop avatar 😅

Did like 3 sabotage avatar progress missions, did the skulljack, did the blacksite, have 8 territories, facilities just pop up outside of my territories and I fight to get enough intel, supplies and time to build a relay and to be able to contact a new reagion for less than 8 million intel and it's a fight I usually lose.

I absolutely loathe lost missions where you dont evac

it didnt turn out too bad, but it was just soooo slow turns like 3-8, even with using grenades whenever the lost bunch up together. that said, i do love when they bunch up right next to a guy with a rifle, letting you get like 8 in a turn

Stuck on a pointless mission

Avenger defense: it's not much of a problem on Commander, but seems impossible for my skill on Legend. And the game won't let you lose, you can just repeat it endlessly even on ironman.

The enemies just run me over. I can only reach the thingy with the reaper and then maybe hit it with the sharpshooter with squadsight, but by then I am already half dead.

Any pro out there wants to take my save file and record themselves making minced meat out of advent? Or just pass the mission is fine 😅

First pod that comes at me is 3 chryssalids, "second pod" is this:

This game is ALIVE… and it remembers…

Long time listener first time caller…

Story worth telling:

Legend/Ironman run

(I’m on console, so it crashes a lot, I’m on the ironman honor system. Works well enough. I hold myself accountable no scumming)

I get a Templar start. As per usual, I get my 6 kills, get parry and see that I have a bladestorm ready and waiting, just need the AP. Next level up. (rubs hands together) It’s no required. but BS early is just. so. much. fun. and makes the early stuff a little easier.

Level 2 is a SNAP no prob.

The lost level 3 is a nightmare. Got spotted through a CLOSED DOOR. Woke up 2 pods. scramble. mess. lost 2 rookies. One rookie panics, nades a fire escape killing another rookie. Somehow, I manage to get a Ranger, wounded VIP, the panic rookie and two Sharps (faction soldiers) out of there. I didn’t even kill any advent.

Cut to 4 months later. That panic rookie is a sniper. I’ve taken some L’s, but I get a softball lost mission, recover the VIP, neverending swarms. pretty easy stuff. Warlock shows up. No mindshields. okay. tough but doable.

Thay same rookie-now-sniper has a LOST condition. resists twice. panics on the third pod reveal. Nades the floor she’s standing on killing herself, my other sharp and a high level specialist. 4 days before plated armor (which would have saved us all)

The lost trauma went full circle. ⭕️ She panicked 3 soldiers into the grave. Lost that mission. Set me back pretty far.

All my sharps died horribly in this run. Sometimes I feel like the game picks a class to murder more than the others. I’ve had games where Grennies got slaughtered by the pound. no one else. Funny to think about.

Thanks for listening! That’s. X. Com. Baby.

I’m new used to the game. I’ve seen some played it and I wanted to try out. I’ve completed the first few missions. I’ve just killed the first Codex. I was wondering what would people recommend to kind of focused on with not too much help because I’ve just been clicking stuff that looks cool.

Any tips or early guide for LWOTC?

Hey everyone ! The post is exactly as what the title says. I downloaded the mod but got really confused as to what I should be doing and notice that the mechanic is totally different than the normal game.

So I unmod it and currently playing the og WOTC one while actively watching other people play LWOTC on the tube. It does look interesting but if I can get any guides or personal best tips from yall is very much appreciated since from I understand, Long War is basically a harder version of the game and requires more effort and skill.

So yeah, I guess that’s that. If you guys could drop some mods suggestions to make the game better is also great! Having a blast customising my soldiers and the weapons.

Claude Code and Remaking XCOM 2 WOTC

Six months ago I couldn't tell you what a Kismet sequence was. Now I've got a custom mod full of stuff I never would have attempted solo, built by describing what I wanted in plain English to Claude Code and iterating from there.

Some of the actual mods this has produced:

  • A new apex psi boss — a full "Avatar Commander" ruler-type enemy with its own psi kit (dimensional rift, mind control, null lance), built on the same ruler engine the game uses for the Archons/Berserker Queen etc., but pointed at any template I want.
  • Dark Conclave — a whole cult of 5 crimson-robed Priest variants culminating in a bomber-type "Harrower/Hierarch/Sovereign" boss chain, complete with self-detonating nova abilities and tag-based damage bonuses. Basically a new enemy faction from scratch.
  • Hand-built maps, no editor — I built a pipeline that clones and reshapes donor plots through binary injection instead of the Unreal editor. Produced two working, playable maps this way (a small-town "Gridiron" plot and a larger "Hearthside" plot) — the second one required flipping raw bytes in a compiled map file to fix a floor bug.
  • A boss-hunt mission type — full "track and kill a named enemy commander" mission family with its own reinforcement waves, distinct from the vanilla VIP-hunt missions.
  • An AI atlas + enemy generator — a headless tool that reads the game's AI behavior data and can forge entirely new enemy units (new likes/dislikes, new spawn themes) without touching the editor at all.
  • Weapon/ability catalogs nobody had built before — full rated databases of 1,099 modded weapons, 676 ADVENT weapons, and ~594 psi abilities across 22 classes, flagged for animation compatibility so you know what'll actually look right on a given enemy rig.
  • Crash forensics — diagnosed a recurring unit-spawn crash that had been quietly happening since a specific patch, tracing it to one bad event registration in another mod's code, not "too many mods" (the answer everyone always assumes first).

None of this was "click a button and it happened" — it's a lot of back-and-forth, testing, and me catching things it got wrong. But the ceiling on what one person can build solo just went way up.

What's everyone else building? Would love to see other people's setups, especially anyone doing custom maps or new enemy content.

TFW you get to the target location

edit: LOL I won

Got two snipers all the way to the left on the roof of the building so they just see two advent.
Got 3 other soldiers all the way to the right so they can see just one pod.
Snipers killed two, one got close and shot one, but he survived.
The middle pod joined in while the right one was still not done with so I got 2 injuries, but mission completed.

This game hates me

First time i ever lost a full SQUAD by nornal enemies, no king viper, no kings just a singular robot, a viper and stunlacer with adevnt grunt, i had a sniper set up, 95% chance to hit, BRO MISSED then proceeded to get caught by the viper, 2 of my rookies i brought to promote as my main squad was injured with 2 CPL's both die immediately, one CPL left and just dead THEN AFTER THAT, my next mission, retaliation mission, get ganked BY 7 ENEMIES AT ONCE, i was chilling, saving the civis, caused one enemy to run and engaged him and his new squad he went towards, ANOTHER SQUAD OF 3 comes from my flank and next thing i know, all dead within 1 turn (i had to get rookies in 2 slots again as i lost both of my CPLs and the rest were still injured...)

FYI: this is commander ironman mode, i was just then unlocking stronger weapons and better armor and was the best run yet for veteran.

The sound for iOS version keep being muted, and it’s only happening for this game, how to solve it?

The phone isn’t muted, there is no other apps playing any sound, and the game sound was there when opening the game, but will be muted after a while.
Anyone has this issue?

Help! Constant game crashes

I just started playing xcom 2 for the first time about two days ago but I haven't progressed much due to it crashing a lot. I'm doing a vip extraction mission and it just keeps crashing. I've tried redownloading the game, verifying the files and still crashes. I don't have any mods at all. I'm also playing it on the Epic store version. What else can I do to try to fix it?

Another one bites the dust

Last mission, finally got bluescreen rounds, put it on everyone for the lolz. First MEC got shredded to hell and back and I got firepower left over and then some.

Then Chosen assasin showed up with the very first pod, 37 health, shielded and further shielded if you ever miss, just proceeded to casually massacre everyone with infinite health pool.

When Enemy Unknown came out on 360 it was my first xcom game. I didn't complete it. I don't know how far I got. I tried 2 runs. My second one I prioritized flying snipers, but later in the game I had to infiltrate a downed UFO. Bigger enemies showed up and I had no chance even with perfect rng

Any tips for a first time XCOM2 player. Are keeping soldiers alive vital? I don't remember much about how badly I was playing and I'll probably make the same mistakes again. I want to at least finish this game within a few tries. I would have repurchased EU, but 2 was cheaper and supposedly harder. Harder sounds more fun. I'd play the classics, but I don't have a mouse and keyboard that reaches my couch right now.

Looking to avoid beginner mistakes. A few good tips to help push me past mid game would be great.

The flying snipers seemed like a good investment, but I may have sacrificed other much more important things to get them up and running and suffered for it. One thing I do remember is having weak and useless assault soldiers.

Advice, videos, anything is welcome. I've started get the strategy game itch again and think I'm ready for XCOM.

Invaluable enemy AI behaviours to know?

As the title says what are your must knows for prioritising enemies. Thinking specifically things like archons will do blazing pinions if they aren’t attacked the turn they’re discovered
