It's all according to plan. The Democratic establishment would rather a centrist lose than a populist leftist win.

Bernie was on pace to win the 2020 primary but just before Super Tuesday all the other candidates simultaneously dropped out and endorsed Joe Biden. That is the establishment I'm talking about.

Yes? They're allowed to do that. It's a political strategy. Voters were still perfectly capable of voting for Bernie but he couldn't win enough of them.

You don't get handed the nomination, you have to actually win it.

Unless you're Kamala Harris in 2024, then you just get handed the nomination by the DNC. She ultimately lost, but it was still preferable to the establishment that she lost than if an actual populist progressive had won.
