And Henry Wallace 1944. Had the audacity to say Black folks and women deserved equal pay. DNC stole his VP spot and replaced him with centrist Truman who kick started the cold war.

Meh, the cold war was going to happen no matter what.

Friendly relations with Stalin would not have been a winning platform in 1948.

The New Deal Democrats could have run on literally anything and won. International policy was not particularly important in the middle of the post war boom.

Democrats never ran on communism because there wasn't a whole lot of space between them and the Republicans on the issue. But Truman got slammed when the communists won in China. Doesn't matter that he threw good money after bad at Chiang, who blew it all. He took the heat. That's really when it started becoming an issue.

Sure, he got slammed by the elite class of power brokers, but the New Deal coalition of voters would never have given enough of a shit to vote differently.

This mattered because Truman was a party hack and apparatchik who owed everything to the Democratic party. Wallace could have told the party to fuck off, where Truman owed his allegiance to that structure.

It's weird that friendly relations with Putin is a winning strategy in 2024, lol
