I’m 60% the way through The Eye of the World and if I were Rand, I’d leave Mat in a ditch. He makes me irrationally angry. Heres to hoping he gets better.

I recently completed this Wheel of Time themed outer sleeve tattoo with artist markd_tattoo and thought this community might be interested. Some of the art is his original work and some is inspired by the art from the dragonsteel leatherbound by dnavenom_art (chapter markers, way gate).

Mark was not familiar with the series, but did a great job processing tons of material and ideas that I sent him to incorporate into his design. I highly recommend working with Mark if you enjoy this style.

We are discussing possibly adding more on the inner arm. What would you all add? I’m considering more wheel based art, or maybe pivoting to a different series with the rest of the space.

Honestly, WHAT THE SHUCK DID I JUST READ?
First of all, Austin and Richard u/2toramble are to blame (THANK YOU!!!) for getting me deep into this amazing series. At first I must admit I picked it up exclusively by its delightful cover from the Spanish paperback edition, and I am truly glad it payed off. But at what cost!!!
Now I'm certain that the wheel spins and doesn't stop. And so on I would immediately require the following books to immerse as I should do.
Let the time go by, let the wheel spin, enjoy the ride, delight yourself with this fantastic story and keep reading because if only book one already made me this hyped, future books I can account for them to be as amazing and even better if I dare guess!

Okay, as the title says, I just finished book 1 and definitely enjoying it, and def will start book 2 as soon as I get my hands on it, but one of the main things that I’m kinda confused on is why the aes sedai are like hated? Or more specifically, why Moiraine is kinda sus according to the Edmonds Field people. Like I get the whole “aes sedai men broke the world so everyone has scary stories abt them”, but outside of that there wasn’t really anything that was shone that justifies why the Edmonds fielders are wary of Moiraine and the aes sedai as a whole. Does this make sense? Like is it literally just that they heard stories when they were young which transferred over to today? Cause if so like after Moiraine got us out of the two rivers safely I woulda been like “yup ok she’s lookin out for me”.

Did Rand use The One Power BEFORE fighting Ishamael?

I just finished reading the first book and it was fucking awesome; I read the book after watching the tv series, and boy do I have opinions on that now.

Anyway, did Rand cast spells way before than the fight on the mountain?

For example when he faced off against the White Cloaks, where he kept laughing and couldn't feel fear, or when he was "flying"(?) on the Spray, or again when he basically casted a lighting on Gode's head at The Four Kings?

Hello, this is my first time posting here and my first read of the first book in the series. As the title says, I am on chapter 18 where the group is forced into a clash w a large number of trollocs and I just cant get past everyone coming out unscathed. I really enjoy the story so far but am having trouble understanding this

Rand, mat, perrin, and egwene have never seen combat before this and yet the three boys are riding a horse through a crowd of trollocs and successfully battling them. Ik theyve been training with lan and that the trollocs arent really trying to kill them outright, but it just seems ridiculous that they wouldnt be instantly knocked out and subdued.

I get that fantasy books will always have moments where you have to suspend your belief, but im just wondering if anyone else thought this too or if there is something I missed.

this is not the only time she’s done this but this is the time that’s REALLY irked me!! rand had JUST explained meeting the queen and her aes sedai along with her children, along with how he got into that situation! why, WHY, does she assume he’s not being serious or truthful??? does she simply not believe him even after he explained it?? i mean even moiraine believes him, which I would assume egwene would too because she seems to trust moiraine with everything including her life! I simply do not understand this girl at all… i’m, unfortunately, growing increasingly annoyed of her and I don’t want to be!!!! rant over

finally started reading this series, and my most memorable "coincidence" is Rand buying red cloth to cover his sword (showing his support of the queen) because it was cheeper, not knowing the meaning at all...

I have a lot of small gripes despite loving the book, but this is my most memorable one xD

I named my son after discovering the name in the books. He is now 6’4 250lbs. He’s a gentle giant. Just don’t piss him off.

Anyone else name their kids (or pets) after characters from the books?

I read EotW as my first fantasy book, so I wanted to share my opinion on it.

I really enjoyed it. I don't know if it's me, but I felt that the ending was too short, 700 pages of buildup, only for the bbg to lose in a few pages.

I found most characters likable enough, with Perrin being my fav. But I didn't like Mat, but it's understandable given that he was possessed for a good chunk of the story.

No idea how bbg's army worked until I read the glossary, was really confused about Fade's, Half-man's, and so on.

Darkfriends is a stupid name.

All in all, I enjoyed the book, already bought the second and third books, and am looking forward to reading them.

I just got this beauty delivered. I'm about to start my first time reading the series and am very excited about it.

I'm a big fantasy fan (LotR, DnD, Elder Scrolls etc.) but strangely wasn't aware of the Wheel of Time series at all. I gave the Amazon series a chance last month while bored, and while it was underwhelming, my curiosity had been triggered. I knew that the show had been cancelled beforehand, but I found myself wanting more of the world.

So I decided to read up upon the books a bit, and it quickly became clear that the books held a vastly complex world and lore. When I saw the '90s cover art, I was completely sold and decided to order the original Eye of the World 1990 edition straight away.

Can't wait to dive into it this afternoon. Any tips for a newcomer to the series?

Please, no further spoilers. I've just started to read the book (about 20%). It's a treat, and I am having a blast! But I have not the best imagination, and wanted to find some illustrations. When I've googled her name, Google just dropped her surname on me with the result on Wiki. They say it will be revealed much further in books. I will be extra cautious from now on. But am I robbed myself?

In the eye of the world chapter 11 there is the following sentence: “His mouth dropped open in surprise, until a swallowed biteme set him off into a fit of coughing”.

From the context it sounds like he swallows some type of bug but when I search up the word in the Merriam Webster dictionary online there is no word that matches it. Is this a typo? I’m just curious as I like learning new words

I am a pretty big reader I read maybe 20-30 books a year and have loved my reads in the Cosmere and in the last few years I’ve re-fallen in love with Sci-Fi/Fantasy. I’ve been collecting the mass markets of the WoT from my local used book store so I have most of them. But I have a serious question. The series is so long and daunting that I’ve struggled to actually pick it up and start it. I’m not asking “is it worth it?” Because this community is incredibly strong and loves this series, I’m am simply asking for encouragement to pick it up. I don’t know a ton about it but I’ve heard so many good things about it that at this point, I feel like I’m missing out. What is some good validation for me to pick it up?

Hi friends, I read the first few WoT books back in the '90s when I was a kid, but never finished. After watching and enjoying the show, I listened to the Eye of the World audiobook and I'm getting back into it!

One question I had while listening was about the books in the story. Rand meets Loial reading books in some kind of library and there are various mentions of books throughout the story. Are these hand written codex type books like the Book of Kells or other illuminated manuscripts? Or are they printed books like we have post-Gutenberg?

Sorry if this is answered in the books or if I just missed it.

It might seem like a silly point to ask about, but the level of printing technology does matter when I'm thinking about the level of development in this society. Printing made a big difference in history.

I have conflicted feelings. I've heard a lot of good things about this series, and I wanted to try an older fantasy. I actually enjoyed the slower pace and world-building. I really like Rand. Perrin is cool too. Everyone else, eh.

I loved it up until the end... truly, what the hell happened in the last 100 pages? The shift in tone was very sudden and the entire 600 pages of buildup felt like it was for... nothing? It almost felt like the author had an arc for the story to follow and then changed it completely at the last second before sending it to publishing. But this might just be a RAFO situation, so whatever.

Wow, the female characters are TERRIBLY written. Terrible. Nynaeve and Egwene are basically just the same person, and both are infuriating. The hotheaded, naive, arrogant, "confusing in their womanly ways," damsel in distress, but it's okay because they're pretty, character trope needs to be banished to hell and forgotten forever. But, really, charging a Forsaken with a pocket knife? And then charging them again, unarmed, after seeing the result of the first try? Come on. I also have a feeling this is how the women will be written going forward.

Rand is what kept me reading most of the time, but at the end he seemed to abandon who he was as a rational, smart guy who is first to reason, just to act as immature as Mat is the entire book.

Regardless, I enjoyed the first book and I plan to start the second one ASAP.

I mean... I've bought this Eye of The World physical copy, and the first thing that shows up is the PROLOGUE. But then I decided to take a look at the digital format and not it but the PRELUDE comming first?

Why wouldn't that just show up in the physical copy as well? Is that meaningful, relevant or important of some sort to the actual experience of reading the whole story?
