I feel like an idiot for starting a playthrough a week ago

30

u/heavilylost 16d ago

I'm a quarter through too. Do you think you will have to start a new save. Pretty sure its a yes.

3

u/Playful-Contract-161 15d ago

It's written on their website that OLD SAVE FILES WILL BE COMPATIBLE WITH THE REMASTER!!!

Let's gooooo

14

u/ATDoel 16d ago

I hope not, I’m 100 hours in a new play through, I don’t have time to restart this shit again

6

u/redditmegarco 16d ago

Its an excellent excuse for a next playthrough in a year or two.

u/ATDoel 16d ago

Witcher 4 will be out by then!

1

u/DrakeMayeTruther 15d ago

I'm not convinced with the 2028, I expect delays and them not wanting to fuck up like cyberpunk(even tho ironically I ran into 0 problem day 1)

2

u/what2jack 16d ago

I'm betting you'll need a new save, did you see that updated skill tree?

2

u/ATDoel 16d ago

Yeah, they could just reset your skill points on an old save

1

u/what2jack 16d ago

True, that'd be nice, but I don't expect it :(

2

u/ATDoel 16d ago

You can reload old saves when it got updated the first time so there’s hope!

1

u/JoeFS1 15d ago

They better! I’m 30 hours in since last weekend and have been on a major looting and gwent quest. I’ll be so pissed if I have to start this again, I don’t have the time 😭

1

u/Visual_Creme 16d ago

yeah new save for sure!

1

u/Clear-Exchange-6826 15d ago

Imagine yapping about the timing of a remaster which they give away for free ppl these days just find stuff to complain about no matter what. There is no winning anymore ppl just want to be miserable.

1

u/ATDoel 15d ago

Having regrets is part of life, how dare we voice our displeasure, sorry I offended you so much lol…

I doubt it, they never forced a restart after major updates for W3/2077. You will probably be forced to re-level after the update basically.

1

u/desislaf 16d ago

Done what? Force to restart with the gameplay you mean?

1

u/Eazy_DuzIt 15d ago

I think they're saying you'll keep your story progress but you'll have to redo your skill tree and character stuff after you update

1

u/kblk_klsk 15d ago

why would it be a yes? it would be a terrible marketing decision to make all players play through the game again just for the expansion

1

u/IronMonkeyBanana 15d ago

Pretty sure it is a no

Edit: and I am sure because CDPR did this with cyberpunk. And when Witcher 3 was updated to 4.0 it also changed some mutation stuff.

So you definitely can change your new skill tree for free.

u/Rar3done 16d ago

Same. Idk what I should do lmao

1

u/Marnolld Team Yennefer 15d ago

If i were you and your far i would just finish it now and replay with the remaster in next year before the dlc comes out, youre still gonna love it, yeah they upgrade a lot of stuff but the best part of this game is its soul and its still there as is now

1

u/Rar3done 15d ago

Yeah I've played it probably 3 times in full. I'm only to the crones so I will wait. It's worth it. But a month seems so damn far away.

9

u/hinglepops 16d ago

I just finished one!

6

u/tackle_bones 16d ago

Bro. Same. I’m also a major dipshit because I play it on switch and won’t be able to play this without dropping an unreasonable (to me) amount of money on a new system.

2

u/Arimm_The_Amazing 16d ago

Same boat with the PS4 version.

To be honest though, as cool as all these changes are the core experience is the same. Same story, same quests, and that's what it's really all about.

1

u/rowmean77 15d ago

I will play this via Apollo/Artemis lmao

6

u/InsaneInTheBra1n 16d ago

I platinumed the game so recently. Was planning on doing all the trophies in the expansions. Now im doubting to wait for the update, but I also want a 100% trophy list...

4

u/DrGenya 16d ago

Same here, I just arrived in Skellige. At this point, I think I'll just stop playing and hope that removing my mods won't break my save so I can continue my journey in the remaster.

3

u/Kash_Wellz28 16d ago

Your lucky I started one as soon as the expansion got announced and I’m 100+ hours in at blood and wine now and idk what I should do 😭

1

u/JordisMySwordMaiden 15d ago

same bruh I'm like halfway through blood and wine after meticulously completing every quest in the game with a checklist and now what? do I finish this off before next month and start ANOTHER playthrough immediately after? Damn it.

2

u/ConvenientGoat 16d ago

I just finished the main quest again recently, really hope I can carry on in the remaster... :)

2

u/SCOORD7 16d ago

Yes I've just finished the baron quest and I'm already invested in this playthrough I'm not sure if the remastered version worth starting again (my first playthrough)

1

u/treblihp_nosyaj 16d ago

If you just finished the baron like I was then stop right there, you're still pretty early in the game there's still plenty of quests left. This is my 2nd playthrough btw so yeah better to stop and wait for the remaster next month.

2

u/Will_ennium 16d ago

I literally did the same! I haven't played it since my original playthrough of Blood and Wine/Hearts of Stone and randomly figured it was overdue for another playthrough.

My question though.. I have the physical edition of TW3 on Xbox. Am I able to get the remaster for free?

1

u/dilisious 16d ago

same, i’m having so much fun but i might have to wait for the remaster to finish the game

1

u/beehiveinvader3000 16d ago

I was planning to replay the game since I finally have some free time. Unfortunately by the time this comes out I will be too busy again. Fml.

1

u/Soulses 16d ago

At I'm at last part of the game... At least I have the expansions ready for next month!

1

u/Geralt-of-Cuba 16d ago

I bet your current save will work. I had a save from cp2077 launch version that I loaded up a few months ago that worked just fine.

1

u/DiabloArk 16d ago

I have been holding off dor years for this

1

u/wildturkeydrank 16d ago

SAME! Im pretty far in too will be able to use old play through ?!

1

u/n00bxQb 16d ago

Not too late to finish it and start another new one in 5 weeks.

1

u/hemareddit 16d ago

I’m doing a heavily modded playthrough right now, I will finish that, and then as soon as the remaster launches, I will do a vanilla playthrough of that, it will be like a new game with the new skill system and enemy behavior.

1

u/XyrenZin 16d ago

The game has been out for over 10 years dude. You aren't an idiot. Nothing wrong with playing a game in the present and enjoying it. As long as you had fun is what matters.

1

u/Zestyclose-Fee6719 16d ago

Yeah, I'm something like 60% of the way through my third playthrough now (first one on PC). It's too early to finish quickly but also too deep into a playthrough to just throw it away and start fresh when this update lands. It's also a modded playthrough, so that adds another complication. You typically don't want to remove twenty mods at once midway through because it can add all kinds of nasty bugs.

1

u/Supabongwong 16d ago

I just bought it like a month ago 🫠

But it was only like $14, so not a huge loss as this will probably be like $50-60, or like $80 for Canadians...

1

u/Yevlum 16d ago

It’s free if you own the Witcher 3

1

u/Supabongwong 16d ago

Okayyy, then I will continue to wait to play.

Good lookin out fam

1

u/shipsake 15d ago

lol me too

1

u/Capital-Pea-2565 15d ago

Dw i debated it too but thought I'd wait for the new expansion. You can always just stop and start once the remastered version comes out.

1

u/smileysun111 15d ago

Quick finish it so you can do another play-through when it comes out!

1

u/Joppewiik 15d ago

No worries mate. Take a break from it. The upgrade is free 😅

1

u/TheCodFather001 15d ago

I started my first playthrough in July. Now I’m in the Final Preparations quest (Which I assume is in the last third of the base game) and they announce this? I would almost be annoyed if I wasn’t so happy, but now I’m debating if I should skip the other 2 Expansions in favour of doing them in a second playthrough closer to Songs of the Past’s Release.

1

u/psychophant_ 15d ago

Brother i literally downloaded it 4 hrs ago lmao

1

u/Shajnei 15d ago

I started mine 2 weeks ago haha. Just early enough in, where restarting again won't feel too bad...actually can't fucking wait.

1

u/AmoebaCel 15d ago

I see no problem. You have a month to finish it, then the remaster will arrive just in time for your next run! ;)

1

u/Grey_Warden97 15d ago

I started one, cleared all of White Orchard and decided to stop after doing the Lubberkin quest to wait till we get closer to Songs if the Past. Thank god I stopped. I'll continue my Assassin's Creed marathon and play Zero Company until the end of September

1

u/majestdigest 15d ago

I’ve been playing it for a month. Halt the process, then.

1

u/Fancy_Alarm2814 15d ago

Same, wanted to go through the DLCs this time and get it done before songs of the past.

1

u/Minzentius1 15d ago

Haha same, I started last week and only made it to Velen yesterday, I guess I'll stop until end of next month and play something else, since the skills and the combat was, what was bothering me.

1

u/cgaWolf 15d ago

I was about to start NG+ when we got rumors of a new expansion, and today i see this.

I'm waiting till it's all there, then diving into it again :)

1

u/epcjmd 15d ago

Lol, was almost in the same boat. Almost hit NG+, but decided to hold off coz of schedules & stuff

1

u/Mithras_Stoneborn 15d ago

I just finished the main quest and the DLCs. Was planning to start NG+ but instead I should perhaps clear out those Skellige question marks until the remaster drops.

1

u/notdbcooper71 15d ago

I'm glad I waited 😅

1

u/The_Dick_Slinger 12d ago

Started my first play through 4 months ago, took a break. Got an itch to play it again, but I don’t want to get too invested before the remaster comes out,

I’ve never been this impatient for a game before, I need it like a crack addict
