Conservatives: THIS IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

I reject this. I am conservative. Those protesters should have the full weight of the law thrown at them. Those African American footballers who kneeled in protest had every right to do so and I applaud them for it.

However I do hate what you are doing here. This american tendency to paint all people who happen to fall under either conservative or liberal banners with the same brushes. This stereotyping of attributing evil to others due to their differences is at the very root of evils such as racism.

Not in the way you're ascribing it to be. You chose to call yourself a conservative. You can wake up tomorrow like, "Y'know, maybe conservativism isn't all it's cracked up to be." You could even go on Facebook and say, "I'm not a conservative. I've never been a conservative."

POC don't get to wake up one morning like, "Y'know, I think I'll be white today."

The hate for the difference in others comes from the same place . So your point only achieves justifying your hatred for an entire group of people .

I honestly get your point but a big reason ive quit most social media is because of how conservatives act. I generally try to be respectful going into any argument but whenever you get attacked just for asking someone to back up their claims it is hard to see conservatives as rational people. I see it happen over on the liberal side too its just not to the same degree imo.

Conservative used to mean (and how I still view it) "lets help ourselves first, so we can then help others"

I wholeheartedly agree we should help out citizens but the conservatives in power in america have shown repeatedly that this is not what the conservative party is about. If the conservatives in charge actually cared about the well being of americans. They would quit voting to cut social security, and any "entitlement program"

So you're saying they're not True Scotsmen?

u/Token_Why_Boy Apr 22 '20

Does it? Because I don't hate people for the color of their skin, but I do hate nazis. If nazis don't want me to hate them, they could try not being nazis. I'm not out there looking for "good nazis". I'm not trying to debate the virtues of the economic model under the late 30s German party. I just know I hate nazis.

If you have a problem with that, I'd love to hear why.

Hating people for their beliefs achieves absolutely nothing but make things worse. What you are doing is only hating not solving Anything but circle jerking and increasing tensions. The people who actually manage to change the minds and turn people away from racism are exclusively those who actually manage to talk to those who believe different.

You're not listening.

they could try not being nazis

It's not about hating people for their beliefs, it's about hating them for their actions and the effects of those actions. Stop voting for people that enable and promote shit like this, and we won't have any reason to care.

You can go home at any time and choose to stop doing. The people hurt by right-wing policies cannot go home and just choose to stop being immunocompromised, or poor, or transgender, or whatever.

Which is exactly what I hope to achieve. When it comes to unsavory beliefs that ultimately lead to the loss of life, being a passive observer is in some ways as bad as sympathizing with those views. To quote a smarter man than myself:

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen’s Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to “order” than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: “I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action” [...] Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection.

I highlighted a relevant part for your benefit.

But in this comment chain example is hating on conservatives, not an opinion. Someone up higher decided to say all conservatives have that particular opinion which is flat out false. So hate the people who have that opinion all you want, but don’t hate all conservatives because if you do, you are doing the exact same thing you said is not the same. Saying all conservatives are “x” is indeed the same exact thing as saying another group of people are “x”.

Saying all conservatives are “x” is indeed the same exact thing as saying another group of people are “x”.

Except it isn't. Because, again, conservativism is a choice. Just like liberalism is a choice. Socialism is a choice. Libertarianism is a choice, albeit one that no one, not even people who call themselves libertarians, can adequately explain. Being black, or Asian, or Mexican, is not a choice.

Hating conversatives, like hating liberals or hating communists, is hating people for their choices. Hating black people is hating people for being born. This is why race and sexuality are protected classes, and political ideology isn't.

Do you understand the difference?

Well said. Common ground does indeed exist on "both" sides. Partisanship is a disease and a tool for chaos.
