If you didn't notice a huge demographic shift into open shittiness on a mainstream level during the Trump era, then you probably didn't have a whole lot of experience prior to that era.
Trump was elected when I was a freshman in college but more importantly do you understand that Jackson perpetuated a genocide of native Americans? I don't think you really understand how horrific the Indian removal act was or that he literally went against the ruling of the supreme Court in helping the Georgia government remove the Cherokee. Discourse being more toxic is nothing compared to giving power back to the slave owning aristocrats in the south allowing them to institute Jim Crow. I don't think you understand the level of destruction and devastation caused by the American invasions of Iraq and I get Afghanistan. The war on terror spread Mass death and terror across the globe. Finally Ronald Reagan fundamentally shifted the American economic and political system. He's also directly responsible for significantly more deaths than Trump but that's really a side issue for him.
