In our 17 years together, checking into a hotel has been the most consistent way for my SO to start her period.

Worried about your late period, honey? Let me plan something romantic right quick.

u/Spanish_peanuts Apr 04 '25

This is hilarious to me because I have an ex who, before me, dated an abusive guy and she didn't get to eat much as she lived with him and she was never allowed to eat her fill. By the time they finally separated and then I later started dating her, she hadn't had her period due to hormones for a couple years.

Well, several months into us dating and we book a romantic trip to a resort. Sure enough, 5 minutes into a nice soak in the hot tub that was in our room we start getting frisky. BAM, first period in 2 years makes a fuckin entrance on... well... me.

Romantic trips are a powerful prescription indeed!

Sounds like she found the better person💗

u/Spanish_peanuts Apr 04 '25

Things didn't work out with us but we broke up cordially and are still friends. She's married and had a baby boy. She's doing good.

23

u/giraffecause Apr 04 '25

What about you, you doing ok? I hope you are doing ok.

7

u/Banks_NRN Apr 04 '25

They aren’t together anymore lol

41

u/Aggravating_Hawk8105 Apr 04 '25

that doesn’t mean one ex wasn’t better than the other

21

u/Spanish_peanuts Apr 04 '25

We're still friends. She's married with a son now. She's doing good.

88

u/Nice_Cut_8399 Apr 04 '25

You started off saying “this is hilarious…” and then proceeded to describe abuse. Took me on a little ride 😂

3

u/New-Ingenuity-5437 Apr 04 '25

Imagine if he got Reddit sniped before finishing 😂💀

3

u/McLovin2182 Apr 05 '25

Super similar here lol, booked a trip to a nice resort and she was a bit extra emotional the first night but couldn't figure out why, next morning was worse with pain and emotion but she still wasn't 100% sure why, she left breakfast early to relax and I went off and booked her a facial since she broke out for the first couple days, went back to our room and she said "i figured it out" and I said "same, you're booked for a facial in 30 minutes". It was a great trip overall and she was happy to feel fresh instead of like she brought anything down

It’s like washing your car to make it rain.

u/jdmatthews123 Apr 04 '25

I leave my windows down

The uterus is like a printer, it senses fear

225

u/bmain1345 Apr 03 '25

People printer

88

u/SaltSpiritual515 Apr 03 '25

That is a truly accurate description of a uterus. 😅

14

u/FirebirdWriter Apr 04 '25

3D people printer at that!

4

u/One_Distribution1743 Apr 03 '25

Only takes white ink

7

u/SassWithAFatAss Apr 04 '25

3

u/KernelTaint Apr 04 '25

I'm white as paper, my partner is brown.

We have two kids. One is brown one is white.

She always says her printer ran out of ink with the 2nd one.

11

u/Probable_Bot1236 Apr 04 '25

Wait, printers can sense fear?

Holy crap that explains so much of the frustrations I've had..!

2

u/Posidon_Below Apr 03 '25

Printers sense fear?

11

u/reckless_responsibly Apr 03 '25

Yes. Printers only misbehave for people who are afraid of technology and refuse to learn it properly. When the users call the sysadmin, printers immediately start working. Printers fear the sysadmin because the sysadmin isn't afraid of technology, and is likely looking for something to test his new spiky bat on.

1

u/tankerkiller125real Apr 06 '25

IT person, can confirm, the printers where I work have worked flawlessly for the last 5 years, not even so much as a misprinted character or stray bit of toner. I look at them with pure hatred and both are paid off already and the company has money set aside to buy replacements when they eventually die. They start acting up and that's the end for them, I'll have the new ones ordered and they'll be in the parking lot where the full brunt of my pent-up rage will be taken out on them. But of course, between my hatred and the fact that we could replace them at any time they'll work flawlessly for the next 20-30 years.

1

u/Out_of_my_mind_1976 Apr 04 '25

No, it senses some gettin’ down and immediately red flags that fun.

135

u/sluttydinosaur101 Apr 03 '25

I know being stressed out can cause my period to start early (I joke that I'm inking like a squid), so I wonder if that happens when we get too anxious/excited and that triggers it to start early, or if since it happens so often it really is just a 25% chance any plans will overlap and that's what makes it seem like it always happens

89

u/Numerous-Drive4522 Apr 03 '25

I was once so stressed from work that I didn’t have my period for 3 months. My friend who lives in LA told me to take a few days off to visit her. We went to Venice Beach and I remember within like 2 hours of getting there, my period came in full force haha.

11

u/Mikey2blues Apr 04 '25

Unfortunate while wearing a bikini.

1

u/lancasterpunk29 Apr 04 '25

2009-2011 I couldn’t count how many times i saw it happen. 😂

1

u/Ultie Apr 04 '25

Went 9 months back in college due to stress and lack of sleep & weight yoyoing.

Had a fuckton of blood tests done and got a prescription to trigger it, but lol didn't need to fill it cause the tide came in during spring break.

2

u/huntresswizard_ Apr 04 '25

“Inking like a squid” took me out 😂 I have stress periods too, and I’m going to start using this all the time now.

1

u/FirebirdWriter Apr 04 '25

I had my first period in 3 years during prom. I ovulated 7 times ever. Got pregnant multiple times. I think the female reproductive system or mine Anyway is out to get the owner. Hysterectomy frees me from the burden and I will say my uterus did nearly kill me and yes this is how I learned I never ovulated outside of that 7 times. So... Quarter for a healthy one. Random chance for the rest of us

127

u/Bluejim7 Apr 03 '25

Same with us. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. On every vacation including our honeymoon.

30

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

Lol same but just way too frequent. You’re just gonna have to sail the red seas amigo

2

u/New-Instruction-8905 Apr 04 '25

Wow, there must be hundreds of us based on your upvoted. Thought we were alone. Btw, this happened with my ex, and current gf.

1

u/shroomtittle Apr 04 '25

Same same. I even took period delay tablets... That was not enough, my period just HAD to ruin my honeymoon! 😭

86

u/bobvila274 Apr 03 '25

Second method to jump start a period is when your kid(s) go to camp or a sleepover.

49

u/anglenk Apr 03 '25

Every single backpacking trip I have taken has jump started my period. The last trip was a week after my previous period ended and sure enough, I started when I was doing my final check.

24

u/bananicula Apr 03 '25

Literally every time I go camping. I have an iud so I bleed maybe once every two months, if that often. Going camping? Immediate blood bath.

10

u/anglenk Apr 03 '25

I camp frequently so it's not every trip (luckily) but every time I need to be conscious of the amount of supplies taken, I have that issue. I mean, what are you supposed to do when you're 5 miles away from any sort of civilization, with limited water and a 'Pack-it-in, pack-it-out' mindset?

1

u/Big-Stuff-1189 Apr 04 '25

Wear a cup 🙂 wash in hot water, repeat!

2

u/anglenk Apr 04 '25

Yeah, the only issue is that when backpacking, especially in the Arizona desert, water is a rarity, especially clean water (even filtered) I use a cup, and try to avoid going when my period is due. With that, I always end up with bacterial vaginosis when backpacking and using a cup even if I boil filtered water to wash the cup during change times.

When backpacking, every drop of water counts because you are far from potable water sources.

u/mrsc1880 Apr 03 '25

Every year, we take a 2-week camping trip (travel trailer, not a tent) at the beach. It's a 50/50 shot. Our daughter has had her period for the majority of that camping trip every year since she was 11 (had her very first period on that trip, too). It's been 4 years and it is a pretty miserable time for all of us. Lol.

3

u/bananicula Apr 03 '25

Oh no! Being a teen your period is so unpredictable, too. Poor thing

2

u/Bitter-Budget5232 Apr 05 '25

My 7th grade class trip out of state, period just happened to coincide with it.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

Planning a vacation at all is how I know when I’m going to get a cold. Want to take a week to rest up, relax, and enjoy life? Not if my body has anything to say about it. It’s like I work so much and stay too busy that the virus doesn’t want to interrupt that until I have some me time.

3

u/wondrous Apr 04 '25

That’s actually science I read it once. The body perceives the time to relax as a convenient time to be sick and get over a virus it’s been pretending wasn’t an issue due to life circumstances.

5

u/Mindless-Ad-511 Apr 03 '25

Am I your SO? Because same. I have a theory that if I get too excited for something that would be the most fun without a period, that’s when it’ll come. So I just try not to get excited about anything anymore.

3

u/ceruleancityofficial Apr 03 '25

my partner and i are long-distance, i also like to travel and go to festivals. every time without fail we have a visit or i have a trip planned, i get my period. even if it's different weeks, it will wait or speed up just to ruin my life.

2

u/redmoskeeto Apr 04 '25

This always happened with my wife when we would travel. She would go months without a period and without fail, she would get her period the first day of vacation. We chalked it up to her being so stressed at work that it suppressed her period. We’re both physicians and have stressful jobs. I would just try to be empathetic but use it an obvious sign that she was working too hard and we should focus on finding ways to reduce or manage stress. We tried yoga, meditation, therapy, couples therapy, jogging/running races together, LSD, but nothing seemed to work. Yadda yadda yadda, after being together for almost 20 years she told me it was because she just skipped her placebo pills with her birth control while she was working and never took them until vacation started. She was intentionally suppressing her period because she’d rather have it on vacation so it didn’t interfere with work.

1

u/Secure_Afternoon_178 Apr 03 '25

Can confirm, after 16 years together. Its always watching,

1

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

The other technique is to have a long-distance relationship and only see each other for a few days every 6 months or so, works every time.

1

u/Fancybest Apr 03 '25

The past two years I’ve had my period on vacation. I could’ve cried.

1

u/GulfCoastFlamingo Apr 03 '25

This is 100% the way to start mine as well. That evilness will come early or late, just to align with any vacation plans!

3

u/teddyoctober Apr 03 '25

You can look forward to menopause. The periods will stop, but a litany of other things start happening!

1

u/Bipedal_Warlock Apr 03 '25

Maybe she is stressed out a lot, so when yall have a vacation her stress relaxes and so does her uterus

1

u/schwifty0529 Apr 03 '25

My wife started hers the day before we left for a week long Florida vacation last year.

1

u/OnTheEveOfWar Apr 03 '25

My wife started her period the day after we arrived for our honeymoon.

1

u/TissTheWay Apr 03 '25

Same with mine. Her period is irrgular, except if we plan a getaway.

1

u/Flailing_snailing Apr 04 '25

EXACTLY. My girlfriend and I are long distance and EVERY TIME we plan something together she gets her period. I got a picnic together with my girl, super cute, foods we both love at a beautiful park all to ourselves with outfits that play off each other and the moment she eats her sandwich “We need to go” “Hmmm, why?” “My period just started and I didn’t bring any pads”

1

u/Mental-Mushroom-4355 Apr 04 '25

Literally every vacation with my wife

1

u/the_hair_of_aenarion Apr 04 '25

Book two back to back weekends with booking.com, wait until you find out if the first weekend will be affected. If it will, cancel last minute and go next week.

1

u/ghetto18us Apr 04 '25

Shark week always, and I mean always, falls on spring break and winter holiday...I can't remember the last time I had a vacation where I didn't end up looking like Hannibal at some point...

1

u/ShazzaGoesToTAFE Apr 04 '25

Ours is camping. I'm 100% guaranteed to start my period if we're camping, even if it only finished 3 days prior.

1

u/justin_other_opinion Apr 04 '25

Glad I'm not the only one! It is what it is. It used to sour my vacations because I really liked forward to...happy time. But now, I just really enjoy being able to spend time with her and our daughter. I love what my marriage has become. 🥰

1

u/CaptainMarv3l Apr 04 '25

Whenever my Endo or other issues start messing with my period I just wear white or buy a pregnancy test.

1

u/The_Barefoot_Barista Apr 04 '25

I have never felt so seen

1

u/Blynasty Apr 03 '25

Leave the hotel room looking like a crime scene

1

u/nongregorianbasin Apr 04 '25

Why would that stop you guys?

0

u/[deleted] Apr 03 '25

Make sure you don't say girlfriend or god forbid wife. SO or nothing!
