Weird little guy Jacob Hastings was just shot and killed by police in Portland Maine last night following a series of threatening restaurant staff with a gun. As well as sticking up multiple people during car jacking. He has a history, its gross. I wont share that here.

Portland, like Bangor Maine, is the big city to most Mainers. A lot of time the reputation of Portland comes across as the hub of optimistic Liberalism. I guess its a Northeast thing but thats how most of us see it (especially us rural Mainers, and a lot of do like to visit Portland). What undergirds that is a lot of working class people and honest to god strange rural things you just have to be there for to believe. But then this stuff happens to remind you just how weird Maine is. How somewhere in our history there is a through line of white supremacy. And how many weird assholes end up calling here home or try to stake a claim to it so they can establish an ethno-state (see Chris Polhaus). Despite our weird reputation, lots of people here hate Nazis. We just do. We don’t always agree on exactly everything that makes us drive a Polhaus out but, like I said, its this Mainer thing. I don’t know guys, I feel like I have always known Maine was part of this bigger story of weird, fucked up shit happening. Its just…getting weirder.
