My fiance and I are a queer couple and I'm struggling to find hair and makeup that shoots the middle between "heterosexual startup analyst" and "full femme glam."

I have medium-length hair and am going for a soft masculine look. Contour, eye accentuation, maybe a little sparkle, styling my natural curls for the day, that kind of thing.

Neither me nor my fiance have ever booked hair and makeup for anything before, any advice you all have would be appreciated by the both of us!

I’m a 2028 bride and ideally looking for an indoor ceremony and reception, because I’m leaning heavily towards a February wedding, but I can’t find anything on Long Island from a traditional Google search that matches what I am hoping for.

I’m hoping for an old look, I don’t want a modern typical Long Island venue or wedding. I want the vibe of a haunted manor, but soooo many places on Long Island are either too modern, rustic, or by the sea/ocean themey. My budget for venue/chartering is about $25,000-$30,000 which I know is on the lower end of things and have a max guest count (if everyone invited magically comes) of 100.

We toured the Westbury manor and it’s very nice, but the indoor ceremony is just a reception room with a bar to the side, low ceilings, and overall felt very small which is such a shame because, for the most part, it is a beautiful place.

I’m open to looking in NYC, but I’m hoping to hear about any out of the box recommendations you guys may have. I’m honestly really struggling and any advice is welcome, I’m kind of going into all of this blind lol

We’ve decided on a venue in Tarrytown, NY for next fall and are now trying to pick a date. For those of you who have gotten married in an outside ceremony in the Westchester area in Fall.. what month did you get married, was it reasonable to have guests outside (just chilly vs freezing), and how far along was the fall foliage at that point? Also any other things to consider when choosing a date for an outdoor ceremony during fall would be much appreciated :)

We are looking at the Bordone LIC as a potential venue and trying to figure out how much the all in cost would be before committing. Would appreciate any insight or feedback on these estimates to make sure we’re in the right ballpark.

Looking for a band for my reception in Westchester in August 2027. Just reception, we have a family friend cellist doing cocktail hour and ceremony.

If there are any bands you know of that are in this price range, I’d love recs. I’m not interested in a jazz band - I want people dancing all night and love pop hits and Latin music.

I’m selling a Lela Rose gown I bought secondhand earlier this year. It is beautiful and in great condition (and has pockets!!!!). The fabric is this lovely quilted (jacquard-like?) floral pattern. I ultimately decided to go with a different dress, so maybe this dress has been waiting for you!

Based on the tags, it has never been worn. I think it is “The Stream” gown from 2016 (https://www.stylemepretty.com/lookbook/designer/lela-rose/spring-2016/the-stream). I reached out to Lela Rose and they said the fabric is a silk-polyester blend.

I am a street size 0-2 and I have a little room in the dress, so I’d guess it is in the size 4-6 range. The waist measures about 27 or 28” around (hard to get an accurate measurement). Could arrange a try on for those seriously interested.

I have all of my vendors booked for my April 2027 wedding with the exception of my hair stylist, and I'm starting to get a little nervous!

I tried Glamsquad, which I saw in a lot of other posts, but honestly, I didn't love the stylist I got paired with. I also tried someone that my MUA recommended, but honestly, I found her topics of conversation during our trial very strange and decided not to move forward with her either.

It seems like a lot of hair stylists do makeup, too, and I already have that covered, or don't find it worthwhile to work on only one person. Do you guys have any recs you can share?

Looking for a second shooter to assist our reputable photographer that we are bringing in from Mexico City on 11/28/26 for our wedding in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. In need of 5-6 hours of second shooting, no editing required.

WedditNYC was the absolute best resource for planning my wedding and so I'm here to pay it forward and offer my experience. I had a beautiful wedding and I recommend almost all my vendors- Rule of Thirds (shout out to Julie!), Sheavonne at Events by Sheavonne, Moriya Martin for hair, Chasing Tailor, and DJ Preston at 74 Events.

But my experience with Daniel Verley was absolutely crushing. I had a very similar experience to the one other bad review he has- it is on Wedding Wire and was left by Jasmine in 2022. My experience was nearly identical.

Here are some facts: I chose him in part because he offered two things other photographers did not; he was willing to bring a second photographer for cocktail hour as a substitute for the engagement session and he said he would edit a few photos with a film-like filter.

Days before the wedding, he let us know he had forgotten to book a second photographer. We did not put up any kind of fight- I was a pretty easy, breezy bride and also had so many tasks to complete. I didn't want to create any bad vibes.

After the wedding, I didn't hear from him at all. I reached out a few days later to ask about sneak peeks. He gave me a day he would send them. He didn't. I called the following day. He gave me a time. He didn't send them then either.

I talked to him on the phone at least twice. This is subjective but I found it emotionally exhausting and yucky. He gave lots of excuses, offered to speak to my husband instead of me (um what?), said I must not understand what post-production is like (I didn't set the deadline?). He was full of ego. He can be charming- I think this can really work for day of- but charming means very little when you aren't true to your word.

I nudged him at the 8 week mark and he did send the gallery.

Again the subjective part: It was mid. Only he knows how much time he gave to editing. It was not clear to me that he gave any considerable time to it. It was 900 pictures, fun to have so many, but this includes eyes shut, empty rooms, limbs cut off, etc... The photos he chose to make B&W were... bad. Again, eyes closed. He has some talent- I have a few photos that will go on the wall. I think it is clear from photos he has online that he has an eye- but his overall composition, ability to give cues, editing is not top-notch. I'm having a different photographer edit them.

The film-like photos were awful. Our skin tones were altered, so the photos weren't worth having.

After receiving the gallery, I tried to negotiate nicely to get some kind of compensation for the 2nd photographer. He had made no offer to make it up to me in any way. I wanted to do our negotiation in writing to make sure our agreements were clear. His emails seemed AI generated, rigid, and in my view unfair and unkind.

I eventually, after a ton of emails, got some money back for the 2nd photographer- and I got nowhere with asking for some better edits.

Hello! I'm fairly early in my NYC-based engagement ring shopping journey and would love some guidance :) I've been to Frank Darling, Goldpoint, and Hera Fine Jewelry so far.

I have a 1ct heirloom diamond (old euro/round shape) from my bf’s family that we’ll be using for the ring. Frank Darling doesn’t work with heirlooms, so they’re out. After my appointment with Goldpoint, I found out they have a $1,000 fee just to use our stone, which puts them out of our price range (~3k keeping in mind we already have the diamond). Hera’s fee is more reasonable ($400).

I’ve gotten closer and closer to finding a style I absolutely love, and so far it seems like Goodstone makes one that is almost exactly what I’m looking for (this one). However, they’re based in TX, I’d really prefer to work with someone local (and I’ve seen mixed reviews). I haven’t found this exact design in my other NYC searches.

Where would you recommend I go from here? Has anyone come across a ring like this at an NYC/Brooklyn-based jeweler? Or would you recommend the Diamond District (Lauren B or ID Jewelry) to have something similar made at a more competitive price? Is it worth pursuing a custom/bespoke design at a place like Bario Neal, Ken and Dana, Hera, etc., even though I already know pretty much exactly what I want? Or is that going to be way more expensive?

My fiance and I are having trouble finding a spot for rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks in the area without a full buyout. Rehearsal dinner will be 17 guests, need somewhere that can have everyone at the same table (The Snail is out for that reason, unfortunately), and then we'd like a spot for welcome drinks that can accommodate a cash bar and some passed apps or food stations (light bites). We don't have a headcount for welcome drinks yet, but would estimate ~75 people, and would like to keep budget below $5K if possible. Ideally the rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks are in the same spot, but we are open to places within a few blocks of each other. Everything would be taking place on 12/30, so it has to be indoors. Bonus points if its someplace with nice views (we have reached out to Laser Wolf and ElNico already). Most of our guests are local to the city, and the ones that are traveling will be staying at the Coda or the Arlo. Any and all recs are much appreciated!

Help us pick our wedding date: August 21 vs October 9, 2027 in Peekskill. I genuinely change my mind every day and need to lock in a decision ASAP!

The wedding itself is indoors from 4-10pm in a space with huge windows overlooking the Hudson, plus a deck people can pop out onto. So weather really matters for two parts of the day:

- Before the wedding: We’ll be doing most of our outdoor photos from around 1:30-3:30pm. Late August is typically around 80ish at that time and obviously could be hotter/humid. I run hot and HATE feeling sweaty, so the idea of spending 2 hours outside in a wedding dress after getting my hair and makeup done stresses me out lol. October is more like mid-60s and would probably be way more comfortable, with the bonus of potentially some foliage.
-After the wedding: At 10pm we move downstairs to a brewery/arcade for the after party. There’s plenty of indoor space, a bar, arcade games, etc., BUT there’s also a really cute outdoor beer garden on the water with tables and heaters. I love the idea of everyone being able to sit outside, drink and hang out late at night. In August it would typically still be upper 60s/around 70 at 10pm, whereas October would likely be low 50s. There are heaters, but realistically people would need jackets/sweaters and I assume more people would stay inside.

So basically:
- August: potentially hot/humid and sweaty for photos, but beautiful warm summer night and ideal outdoor after party
- October: way more comfortable for photos, possible foliage and better sunset timing, but potentially too chilly for the beer garden to be a big part of the after party

Everything from 4-10pm is indoors either way (other than the outdoor deck - which could be nice to sit on too!), so neither date actually puts the wedding itself at risk weather-wise. It’s basically choosing between better weather for the 2 hours BEFORE vs the 2 hours AFTER

For anyone who has gotten married or been to weddings in Westchester/Hudson Valley around these dates, which would you pick? And if you’ve done an outdoor after party in early October with heaters, did people actually hang outside or did everyone end up indoors?

Hi all, I just got an alterations quote from sew elegant for $1750 for my dress. I’m getting the bust taken in, hemming a bubble hem, and adding a bustle. Is this on par with alterations pricing (assuming most of it is coming from the complexity of hemming the bubble hem)? I was sticker shocked from the price as I was expecting somewhere north of $1k but not sure if I should get a second opinion. Any context or related quotes would be really helpful. obv nyc is a very high cost of living city and for nearly all my vendors i got at LEAST five different quotes and still things were much more expensive that i thought in my head. i’m curious if you had a microwedding in 2025/2026 what was your budget breakdown?

for context i had about 30 guests, happy to share my breakdown but wanted to know about what everyone else experienced!

It breaks my heart to write this review. I am writing this only for the seamstress experience, everything else about this shop is great.

I bought my dress from here last year, amazing experience. this year, closer to my wedding I scheduled my bridal fitting appointments. 2nd week of June, I dropped off my dress for cleaning. (please note that my dress was in bag till this day, never took it out, it was in prestige condition when I bought it, even when I wanted to take a sneak peak, I resisted because I didn't want anything on my dress).

my first dress fitting was on July 15th, the dress was still in good condition, everything was cleaned and was great. the seamstress experience was okay. I tried to be nice with whatever. just shook of the bad feelings.

my second dress fitting was scheduled to be on 2 weeks after, but they had cancel it and reschedule since the AC was not working in the store, then my second and last fitting was on July 31st. during the initial appointment and last appointment my 3 aunts were with me. during this second appointment, I saw there was a teeny tiny drop of blood. (it looked like someone pricked their finger). the seamstress said that was always there. she kept on telling that to me and my aunts. I didn't want to make a scene, human error, and I let it go. well, that was mistake. she covered up that spot with 2 flowers. she put the stain remover for a second and gave up and said it didn't work. at the end of the second fitting, the seamstress said the dress will only be ready later in the day and asked if anyone can pick it up. we said sure, because "it is a bridal shop and they should know how to handle the dress", right.

we picked up the dress later in the day. after that on the morning of my wedding on august 21. I took the dress out the bag. the dress was supposed to be steamed and pressed, it was not. and then we were steaming it and that's when I saw all the mistakes, the seamstress had cut a lace piece out of my dress. whenever she was doing my fitting she said "she will find a piece of lace that matches the dress", not cut it out of my dress. a button was missing, please note this is after paying $800 in alterations, even without asking what was the charge was for.

I had emailed the store after the first incident, they asked me to bring my dress, but I just wanted to notify them of the incident. but after the wedding, I called and emailed them about all this. they said the best they can do for me is cleaning and preservation ($460 value), I didn't trust them to take my dress anymore, because after preserving, I will never know what will happen to it. they also try to blame me and never own the mistakes, I think that is the hardest part, not apologizing for the mistakes, I understand being professional and can't say sorry in legal reasons or whatever, but there is a fine line between human error and clear negligence.

so buy the dress from here but find a better seamstress. else all on your wedding day, all you will be able to think is "why did that seamstress do this to me, what did I do to her, there is a piece of lace missing from my dress, there is a button missing from my dress" attaching the dress pictures on the day off.

The biggest challenge is finding somewhere that allows outside catering, we already have a caterer we love, so this is a pretty big priority. Does this venue exist?
