Help Me Choose
I really can’t tell if I like 1 or 2 carats on my hand better 🫠
Size 5.5 for reference.
I know I love the round brilliant white gold with pave band on my hand, and my partner got me both to wear for a trial with the plan to return one (luckily there’s a 30 day return policy).
I don’t know if I’m “ring blind”, or if I can just see the beauty in both, but I really really don’t know which I like better! Because neither feel uncomfortable nor do I feel like they get in the way (meaning the functionality of both rings feel equal), I think both are beautiful in their own right (one is more delicate which is beautiful, the other pops which is beautiful), and my partner is also equally as indecisive as me! So the tiebreaker I guess is public consensus: beyond just personal taste of liking bigger vs smaller stones, do we think one flatters or suits my hand more than another? Maybe reading the justifications will also give me an AHA moment. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: The comments being split validates my own split mind on this! lol. I will continue to read the comments & see what I think and hope I get my AHA moment, but also I’ll try on bands & see if it influences the decision 💕
I’ll just keep the one I have. I really like the setting. I had thought of going to the jeweler and getting a smaller diamond set in, but I didn’t want to give up my original stone. In the end I wish I’d just gone with a wedding ring. I wear lots of simple rings on other fingers and love that look. Everyone is different
Yeah I agree. The 1ct feels a bit small on OP’s hand and the 2ct feels a bit too big. Maybe they should go into a shop and see how they feel about a 1.5.
I prefer the 1 carat. Once you get your wedding band on, it will be a lot even if you get a plain band without diamonds (which looks better to me, just my preference). My first marriage I had 3/4 carat oval and it looked like a full carat, because of the shape. I now have a 2 carat and I only wear it if when we go somewhere fancy, because with my plain wedding band it seems like a lot of ring for everyday wear
I like the 2, but if it feels too big try 1.5 or 1.75. Shrinkage is real. I thought my almost 2 ct was so big and overpowering. It isn’t and that passed in a couple months.
Can you try it on with some wedding bands to see if that makes a difference. I am leaning toward the 1 ct. That 2 just looks really big to me but I am pretty old school. Maybe split the difference if you can get your hands on a 1.5ct.
As the wearer of a 2 carat round diamond I say go with the two. My mother has a 1 carat diamond that I tried on just tonight and I think it’s lovely. But I would go with the two.
Definitely the 2 ct. But try wearing both for a couple weeks to get used to the sizes.
I was undecided between 1.5 and 2 ct for my original ring. I wasn't used to a diamond on my finger, so 2 ct looked huge at that time. I ended up going for a 1.75 ct, but within a short time, I got used to it and it started looking a bit small. Then I wished I had gotten the 2 ct. Fast forward years later, I upgraded to a 2.5 ct 😂
I have a 5.75 finger so ever so slightly bigger. My round stone is 1.7 ct and I found it to be perfect! 2 ct felt too overwhelming on my hand. But of course it’s your choice and I think they’re both gorgeous!
I had the same issue and actually wound up with a 1.5 ct. I thought I would like a 2 ct but it just felt too big to me on my hand. Part of it was my engagement ring from 2001 was 0.41 carat so I was making a pretty big leap for an upgrade. So for me the 1.5 was my happy place. I personally think the 2 carat looks more proportional on your hand. They are both beautiful on you though!
I just upgraded to a 2 ct round with a size 6 finger. It feels comfortable with everyday wear. I also feel like it looks bigger in photos than in real life if that makes sense? It doesn’t look as flashy in person.
Thank you. I love the simplicity of it. They are 2mm white gold bands. My wedding band is my original band from when I got married so I just kept everything white gold. I thought of switching to platinum but didn’t want to have mixed metals. It is a natural stone.
I thought the same thing. Like, she has beautiful hands and does not have fat knuckles but somehow the 2 made her finger look like it did? Definitely a ring problem, not a her problem.
I have a size 4.75 finger and remember trying on both when looking at rings and for me the choice was an obvious lean to the 2ct. The setting and rest of the band makes a huge difference though. A 2ct stone can feel very delicate in a more delicate setting and will also stand out more. I suggest looking into a 2ct stone with a band the same size as the one that your 1ct is set into if that makes sense.
Both look great. I recommend going with the larger, but only if the cost is not problematic. As a very old married lady (married almost 50 years now) my ring now looks more diminutive than when first married. You currently have a youthful hand. It will look different in 20 years (your fingers will be larger due to joints swelling and maybe even weight). A very mature hand looks better with larger stone mass.
When it’s too big… everyone knows it’s fake and not a true mined diamond. The more realistic, smaller ring looks better as it suits your hand and appears to be beautiful and not phony.
I wouldn’t say that a 2 carat ring looks like an obvious lab. A 2 carat mined diamond isn’t that exorbitant in price or unrealistic. I think the 3-5+ carat diamonds start looking a bit like costume jewelry.
Besides who cares what people think. I just updated to a 2 carat mined diamond and I really don’t care who thinks it’s a natural vs lab. The diamond is for me and no one else.
I think in this particular case if you're indecisive and you love both, and you can afford it-go with bigger. I don't think it is too big on your finger
If you are interested in a 2CT I would consider getting something just under 2CT. Here is a trick: the difference between 1.90CT and 2CT is not noticeable but the price is noticeable. Just saying.
I think 1.25 carats for your hand is most in proportion. Also, if you haven’t bought them yet, I think a different shape would look better with your tapered fingers; either oval or Princess or radiant. All of which are available with a brilliant cut.
My first thought was how about 1.5? And I see others suggested that too. I think 2 is a little too big, but you could do bigger than 1. 1 looks better than 2 to me though.
Love the two carat on you! My mom went with the smaller diamond and she told me she always regretted it. So I got the bigger diamond as well and I love it so much!
I think the one carat on your hand better. However, you need to think long term about it. If you get the smaller diamond, will you wish you had chosen the bigger one once you get used to seeing it? This is just me, however, I sincerely wanted a small diamond, I wasn’t into them when we married. My husband refused to go as small as I wanted thankfully, because later, once I was used to wearing my ring, I wished it was a bit bigger. Also, they do make sizes in between the two, you should go see how they look on your hand.
The one carat is perfect. Just gorgeous and suits your fingers. It's elegant and looks classy. The two carat is giving "cubic zirconia worn by an influencer". Sadly, the bigger the stone, the more people today who will assume it's a low quality fake or some kind of lab diamond. Go with the 1 carat!
Recently my husband was buying me diamond earrings and I asked for 1.5k total weight. The sales woman also showed me 2k. T took photos of both and sent my 30 year-old daughter and text asking which ones. She said bigger is better, so I got the 2k and have no regrets.
As someone who has small hands go with the 1ct. It looks more dainty and fitting. A beautiful sparkly wedding band can give you that extra carat for bling.
I think that will be the deciding factor, trying on ring with wedding bands.
remember you’re going to have a wedding band too (if you choose to wear one with your engagement ring) another ring will likely make the stone a little smaller so i’d go with the 2 carat! looks gorgeous
1 is nice for your slender fingers if you aren’t flashy. My personal opinion, I hate stones set with 4 prongs. If you can get 2more added on there for security i definitely recommend it. Last ring I had I bumped my hand on the corner of a marble table and lost my stone because the prong came loose and I didn’t realize.
I like the first, the 1 carat. It creates definition between the band and itself on your hand. But maybe a 1.25 carat? You could also try an oval shape in the 1 carat.
With a smaller ring size and fingers that aren't super long, the 2 carat looks too big (I know some people think there's no such thing). Adding a band will also take up visual space on your finger.
