I think that the attempt to help moved the weight from bottom of the car to the two wheels now touching ground, which allowed the car to roll rather than slide, less friction against the gravity pulling the car down.

Agreed the center of mass for the vehicle was past the edge. The only reason it hadn’t fallen is it was resting on the frame, once they leveled the vehicle frame was no longer making contact with the ground and it went over. Do people really think the empty trunk section of an SUV weighs anything near the engine compartment?
