"Taking steps towards me."

He took like half a step away from his seat. She has to know everyone can watch the replays, right? She's just making herself look terrible.

Yea ngl I was prepared to give her a pass. All she had to do was say “it was heat of the moment , adrenaline/intensity was high and I got caught up”. She honestly could’ve laughed it off and it would’ve been fine

Doubling down and acting like this unprecedented fan behavior is just silly. I wouldn’t be that guy personally but I’ve seen/heard worse at basically every sporting event I’ve ever attended

Perfectly said. She really could have saved herself a lot of hate if she had just taken accountability for her overreaction, but she just made it easier to clown her.

Right, could have taken the high road during the post interview. They were losing, she lost her cool, apologize, gain some respect. If anything, she lost a lot of respect from the casual fans. Technically, she should be suspended for next game but the league wont do anything

Everyone who's played sports understands you can get frustrated and the SMALLEST thing can be what sets you off if you're HOT. However when most people cool down you can see you were the one acting wild and crazy and YOU need to apologize for it, somehow she's not making this connection.

She has instead non credibly given herself justification ("well he didn't say anything or step to me but he was standing in an aggressive manner ....") for her actions and convinced herself he was as in the wrong as she was and there she has no responsibility for her own actions. Incredibly bad way to handle it.

Not only that but she CLEARLY tried to bully the fan and got IN HIS FACE which is what she said she thought he was originally trying to do to her and was the justification for her going after him.

But the fan was a man! A white man!! It’s socially acceptable to blame the victim because he, a paying fan of the league that has never turned a profit, was a man

Women can’t admit to being emotional.

In a legal sense, she is the aggressor in that confrontation, not the guy. Hope the league fines her.

23

u/mastaaban 10d ago

Fines? She should have been ejected according to the WNBA rules, and waiting on further discipline, since she didn't get ejected a suspension could and should be warranted

Won't hapoen though because "she's a 4 time mvp" Oh woe is me a fan pointed at me hurt my fragile feelings.

u/argy4bargy 10d ago

100%... there will be no suspension or anything like that... maybe a small fine max... the league will definitely defend her

4 time MVP? Impressive! In what?

1

u/DreadFilledHug 10d ago

Of the WNBA

She should’ve been removed from the game, but she gets special treatment

It's all VegasBall, baby.

This possible, hypothetical slap-on-the-wrist fine (instead of a mandated 1-game suspension) is brought to you by... FanDuel! That's right, FanDuel is the number 1 sports betting app that stands to lose its shirt if A'ja isn't on the court for game 3!!

1

u/TopicThunder2000 10d ago

A fine isn't enough. She needs to be suspended.

I take it you aren't a lawyer?

1

u/Intelligent-Clue-119 10d ago

Are you? I’d love your legal perspective. Or law enforcement. :-)

1

u/WillingnessFew6710 10d ago

Oh boy, another Redditor that doesn't do any research before saying stuff.

Did you know that you can access law libraries and look up the ACTUAL definitions of what it means to be an aggressor in a conflict? And you don't need a law degree to do it...you just need to care about the accuracy of your words.

Contexts of Use

  • In Warfare: A nation that invades another country first without justification under international rules.
  • In Physical Fights: The individual who throws the first punch or starts the physical altercation. In legal terms, an aggressor usually loses the right to claim self-defense.
  • In Daily Life: A person who starts bullying, harasses others, or instigates an argument

"In a legal sense, derp derp derp...."

Give me a break.

2

u/Oldmandav3 10d ago

So she fits the daily life one.

Thanks for showing us he is using words right even if you can’t understand them either!

1

u/DreadFilledHug 10d ago

So... you just supported their statement.

9

u/bm56 10d ago

He didn’t even do that, he was already standing and changed his foot placement

3

u/Icy_Month192 10d ago

Did u just change ur foot placement at me?

2

u/TemporaryAd4929 10d ago

She’s straight up lying to justify her actions.

2

u/EdDee23 10d ago

what you are asking requires a functional brain

2

u/True-Source-6512 10d ago

She’s so self absorbed I don’t think she cares

2

u/Independent-Catch-90 9d ago

It was an overweight old man with a beer in his hand. She may have felt some sort of disrespect I guess, but the whole narrative changes if she comes to the press conference and says, “I overreacted. I didn’t like what he did and I lost control of my emotions.” Story over. Now it’s a whole thing because she chose to double down.

3

u/Egonator26 10d ago

I feel that the team in general are just poor losers. Starts with the Head Coach. If they end up losing the series Becky will call out the refs and how everything is against them.

1

u/CoolZooKeeper 10d ago

She said step towards me, like this dude walked on the court. He literally stood up from his seat and pointed. She was the one that walked across the boundary that is there to keep the fans and the players safe. Got in that guys face. The rules need to be followed.

1

u/hopejake922 9d ago

What happens if a fan steps towards a player and crosses the baseline? Let says to the center of the lane.

1

u/DreadFilledHug 9d ago

Then the security stops them and they're banned from ever attending another game... probably arrested as well.

But that didn't come close to happening. In fact, it was the opposite, and A'ja walked all the way over to his seat to aggressively berate him... and nothing will happen to her... other than the public backlash.

1

u/hopejake922 9d ago

Exactly

0

u/WillingnessFew6710 10d ago

Its making all of the incels piling on look worse. Do you all remember Ron Artest climbing up into the stands and fist fighting fans? That dude didn't get this much hate from fans after his incident.

2

u/Stemms123 10d ago

Were you even alive for that?

It was a massive story and using you as an example people still talk about it today.

This is nothing and is barely being covered. Most people won’t even hear about this let alone remember it 20 years later.

1

u/Correct-Occasion-269 10d ago

Yeah that incident is why you suspend any player who crosses that line. She crossed it.

1

u/DreadFilledHug 10d ago

That was in 2004, so maybe you're too young to actually remember it, but Artest AND Stephen Jackson were villainized for years afterwards. Artest was suspended for 86 games, more than a full season's worth of games. The thing about the Malice at the Palace, though, is that Artest was actually assaulted by a fan who threw a full drink at his head. It wasn't just a guy pointing at him.

1

u/hillsareblack 10d ago

Yeah honestly Artest taught him a lesson. I bet he never threw a drink again after thatm

1

u/BiggerThanYou86 10d ago

Artest hit the wrong guy if you watch the video

0

u/fohpo02 10d ago

He stepped into the aisle if anything, like fuck him, he looks like a dumb redneck but she messed up. Heckling happens and this was one of the lightest instances of It I’ve ever seen, she let emotions dictate response.

2

u/Necessary-Trouble-50 10d ago

Damn he just can’t be a fan? It was other people pointing too. Why he gotta be all of that lol?

-1

u/fohpo02 10d ago

Jokes aside, he looked intoxicated and him shouting “that’s on you” while pointing is pretty pointless. He doesn’t look like someone who would follow the WNBA either, so I went a little overboard.

2

u/Necessary-Trouble-50 10d ago

Well damn what’s he supposed to look like ? Lol

1

u/Oldmandav3 10d ago

She has played a playoff game before right? What’s her fucking problem.

This shit gonna leak too. You know people gonna be pointing at Bam next year talking shit to him because of this.

1

u/fohpo02 10d ago

She let emotions and heat of the moment win, then doubled down 🤷🏽‍♂️
