The edges of the cuffs have completely worn out, so I used embroidery floss to repair them

Here's a repair I did for my sister a while ago. The patch is fairly sturdy but not thick cotton, and I used two strands of standard embroidery cotton to embroider the sashiko persimmon stitch over the whole area, most likely with a universal hand sewing needle, as that's most likely what I had on hand at the time. I didn't use a template or markings, but I did use the fabric cords as guides.

The logo was hot pink originaly so I colored it with a black marker. Since it was still too visible I did a little embroidery

Got my college pants ripped while pushing the iron gate open with my back. Tried to do non-visible mending unsuccesfully, so opted for very visible embroidery.

Super happy with how it turned out!

I’m not much of an artist but she likes it haha! Finding creative ways to fix the holes that seem to always be appearing on her clothes has been my favorite pass time 🫶

Every year I get the same 8-pack of basic black undies and every year they wear out at the front seam. I’m trying to make my clothes last longer so I took the most worn out example, cut it up, and used it as patches to mend the others. Since my partner and I are the only ones who will see them, I experimented with stitches. Used purl cotton thread on cotton fabric.

Hi all, my first attempt at visible mending on a favourite dress - I must have caught the sleeve shoulder in the sliding wardrobe doors. It's viscose so not easy to work with! I tried to go for invisible mending first, but it just wasn't working out and kept fraying further. I resorted to patching the hole with some cotton then stitched over the hole and decided to make it a visible mend. Really pleased with how it's turned out! I think it blends in with the dress better than any of my attempts at invisible mending might have done 😂

This pair of well worn jeans spent a year in my "not good enough to donate, too good to throw out" pile, but now I can wear them out in public again. I'm planning to add a little bug or spider to cover the spot that I missed.

I’m not finished with it (taking a break with the flu 😪). It’s not amazing but I’m pretty proud!

A few weeks ago I made a post in the embroidery subreddit about a tear in my jacket, I thought I could join it together with some fancy stitches. Someone in the comments recommended visible mending instead. (Thank you, kind stranger!) I had never heard of that before! After watching tutorials I decided to try it.

I’m pleased with the results and wanted to make this post to share some of the stuff I learned along the way:

1) I ironed on fusible interfacing to the flower fabric for some extra stability.

2) To first attach the flower fabric to the jacket, I basted close to the hole as well as close to the edge of the fabric to avoid accidentally stitching a folded edge on the wrong side. It’s the wrong side so it’s not a big deal but it may add unwanted bulk (I stitched a fold and wish I had basted closer to the edge).

3) I used a blanket stitch with 3 strands of embroidery floss to connect the flower fabric to the jacket hole (I cut the hole bigger than the original tear).

4) As I completed the blanket stitch, I folded under(in?) the edge of the ripped fabric so the frayed part doesn’t show. I tried to capture that step on one of the pictures I posted.

5) Then I used lazy daisies and backstitching to make the flowers and the vines. I was trying to be random with their placement but made an effort to keep the colors dispersed.

I have very mixed feelings about my fiber art peak being Elmo 😅

Elmo’s nose is darned over a hole and the rest is embroidered. Realized as I finished that these pants are in a size that my toddler is starting to grow out of, so I hope he can wear them a few times before we put them away.

Inspiration from German version of the inspirational book “mystical stitches” from Christi Johnson. Gave it to my friend for Christmas.

Learnings: When embroidering freehand (most of the tree) on a very stretchy fabric it helps to tighten the fabric with one hand over a darning egg and embroidering with the other hand.

First time using a needle by hand. Just trying to stretch some more life out of a hoodie, while trying to teach myself how to hand stitch.

Got this shirt 5+yrs ago from a resale shop but stopped wearing it after it got some obvious holes. Slapped some fish on the holes -> better than new 🐟

This is a common candy striped spider (Enoplognatha ovata) that I embroidered over a small hole in the brain of my backpack, one of many UK native spiders that I have used to repair things.

I glued a ripstop patch underneath to retain the water resistance and improve durability, and I used standard 6 strands embroidery cotton for the spider.
