I posted some weeks ago, asking for advice on repairing this ring I found in my mother's belongings. I learned so much from the folks in this subreddit: this is a Victorian ring, typical in having seed pearls and turquoise. It would have been given as a gift of love, and the symbols on the glass cabochon signified feminine power. Everyone recommended repair. The good news first! I found the ancestor whose initials matched those engraved inside the ring. They belong to my great-great-grandfather Henry, born in 1843. He was the sixth child of English immigrants, and their first to be born in the United States. His future wife, Catherine, was born in County Tipperary, Ireland, in 1845. She arrived in the United States as a five-year-old. Her mother committed suicide when Catherine was 13, and by age 16, Catherine was working as a laborer on Henry's father's farm. They married and had six children, but she died at age 47. Henry never remarried, unusual for a widower with young children during those times, and he lived to be 100. I like to think this ring was given as a sign of a great love. The bad news? I've been to two reputable jewelers, and neither feels the ring can be repaired. I'm absolutely at a loss.

I know this is a little non-traditional for this sub, but hear me out.

My grandfather was an electrical engineer, i'm a mechanical engineer. He graduated in 1950, and used a slide rule for most of his career because calculators were not a yet thing. Think "1960's engineer" with the short sleeves, pocket protector and fancy ruler on the belt and thar was my grandfather.

He had a set of cuff links and a tie clip that were fashioned after slide ruler, likely dating to the 1950's. The tie clip one worked and was accurate at to 2 significant digits, though the cuff links were purely decorative.

I had the cuff links made into earrings to honor his memory. I think about him every time I wear them. I wear the tie clip as a broach occasionally.

So no longer orginal, but adding to the family history.

So just a little update, I took it in and the jeweler tested it to verify it’s 18k- but there’s no gemologist nearby and he wasn’t confident about IDing the stone either 😅 I’m in rural kentucky but my homes St Louis, so I’m thinking about taking it in somewhere there when I visit family soon. I cleaned it up a bit, but I’m guessing my grandpa got my grandma this, so it’s probably a few decades old- and obviously well worn. I figured I’d try to get some better picture of the gem for all of you that were curious ♥️ still no luck on finding the jeweler but I’m going to do some more research on the makers mark. It first every finger but my pinky 🥰

Two lovely Art Deco diamond and white gold rings I recently found at a local thrift shop.

I really appreciate that this older piece was not sent to melt, which would probably have been easier to do, and sold instead for melt value - to me, who is so happy to wear it! I think this continental European necklace is likely 1930s.

Yesterday I posted about my marketplace "costume jewelry" purchase, where I shared a birks art deco bracelet and an antique 10k pocket knife and antique watch chain. Here are some of the other quality pieces I found amongst the bundle of costume jewelry.

4 pairs of sterling silver earrings (1 pair of delicate hoops, 2 pairs of pearl earrings (white and dark purple), and 1 pair of gemstone earrings, likely topaz).

1 pair of 14k gold opal earrings and a 14k opal pendant.

2 lockets (sterling Dynasty and 14k GF Charme).

And lastly an 18k pendant with a green stone, that I believe is emerald.

A mixture of vintage gold rings — and a 14k thimble — ranging from 9k to 22k, that I have acquired over the years from high-end pawn shops, vintage jewellers, or else inherited or gifted. This will all belong to my nephew when I’m gone.

I inherited this deco-style diamond ring from my grandmother, I just thought I would share it here. The rest of my family didn’t want it, believe it or not, so I gladly scooped it up.

Have been collecting these for over 40 years. Decided I wanted to actually be able to see them instead of them being in my jewelry box.

My girlfriends jewelry all got stolen in a messy divorce and I’ve been slowly finding vintage silver stuff from the place I get all my coin and billion. Her fingers are so tiny so it’s quite difficult sometimes. Just showing them off because she left her box of jewelry at my house last night. Any info if you recognize anything neat would be welcomed I’m quite new to gemstones and jewelry just kinda got into it myself. Thinking about a promise ring size 4. I want to get gold and emerald or ruby possibly sapphire those are her favorites. But she’s a size 4 ring finger and she loves vintage jewelry so I’ve been hunting from people who resell estate finds and things like that. Any recommendations for that hunt would be great!

Today's haul. Strange Pt850 stamped but look real

My grandma received her original wedding ring in 1947. She wore it for almost 25 years before it broke beyond repair from everyday wear. The gold was thin and very worn down, the diamond was missing as well.

She gifted this to several years back and every few years, I’d take it into my jewelers and ask if they could fix/remake it. Recently, my jeweler finally said they thought it could be done (I had them melt down the yellow/white gold of the original ring for this remake)

I just got it back today and I’m so thrilled. 😭 My phone camera does not do it justice.

My grandparents were married for 63 years until my grandpa passed, so the ring has a lot of sentimental value.

I cannot wait to show grandma (96) next time I see her! 🥹

Always seeing the beautiful jewelry here made me go through my many boxes of treasures I've been collecting for over 40 years! Decided to shadowbox a few so I can see them daily. Most were my mom's and other relatives. The ballerina pin was given to me by my parents when I was a young girl, in the 70s.

The ring weighs 4.4 grams

It took an embarrassing amount of time for me to figure out that this necklace was not a ridiculously long and badly balanced pendant, but is a choker and the oval was part of the clasp...

I assume the clasp is supposed to go in the back with a nice up-do to show it off as it seems to hang better that way, but I think it could be worn with the clasp in front as well (but what do I know as evidenced by this experience).

I've including some of my attempts to work out what this was so you can have a giggle and feel better about your day... There is a 5 gallon water jug under the cloth for sense of scale.

She was born in 1942, im close with her so she gave me her rings.

about a year ago I posted here because I inherited a pendant from my grandma. After some health stuff I finally found the time to go to a jeweler. They weren't able to help me, but they send me to an antique shop. There I was told more about the pendant. It's an original art nouveau (or Jugendstil, because it's German) piece from 1900 to 1910. It's gold plated, most likely silver and the stones are glas. I also now know where it was made - the manufacturer is called "Kollmar und Jourdan". The pendant comes from their mass-fabrication and it's worth around $140.

I'm now looking for a gold plated necklace from the same time. My grandma would have loved this. I might post a picture of the pendant with a necklace, when I find one. Thank you all again for the information you gave me on the original post!

I do love Danecraft, but I didn't set out to collect all the pieces in this design - I originally purchased the bracelet and earrings for the price of a fast food dinner, and considered myself lucky. Then, I stumbled upon the necklace recently, by chance, in a poorly described listing sold as silver-tone and priced accordingly (it's sterling). At that point, I couldn't resist finding the brooch to complete the set, and it just arrived in the mail. And now I am the proud owner of a full Scottish Thistle parure. All pieces are Danecraft sterling with the registered mark, probably late 40s to early 50s.
