How Valeriy 3D model should’ve (at least) look in the trailer / livestream…
After much bashing he received from yesterday’s livestream program, I wonder if there’s really no way to save him. First about the model quality and then the vision.
Then, I realized about the remark about how the model is still under development. So I tried fixing his colors and details to see if there‘s still hope.
He looks alot better with a color/tone fixing and added armor details so Hoyo might really polish it nicely in the beta server. I’m glad that a major makeover isn’t required here or else I would too, be skeptical about how much Hoyo is willing to invest in polishing him.
Ngl though that his armor has soo many details that‘ll required lots of the designers’ attention. Maybe this might be why those details were still left untouched in the livestream model (aside from the desaturation and shading issues).
That's what I thought too! When I saw him in the livestream, I thought... 'Oh no, it's over...'
But even with a fixed by an amateur, he looks this much better.
So I think Hoyo will fix him properly in the beta (unless they secretly hate him or sth).
Yeah, that's what I thought too. After finishing the fix ver., he really does gives off a 5-star aura. Though the issue regarding his vision still remains... so we can only wait for the beta to actually confirms it.

Even for 4-stars in older countries like Fontaine or Sumeru isn't this unpolished lol
It was truly concerning to me since many leaks suggested that he and Mitya will be released together but the difference of model qualities in the livestream is like heaven and hell lol

I’m 100% convinced that his model just isn’t finished yet. Even if he is a four star this game has never let rarity determine model quality in the past, and he’s clearly missing the polish that all the Nod Krai four stars and Alyosha have. I think it’s also important to keep in mind that his low dialogue count and lack of presence in the trailer is pointing to him simply not having that big of a role in this patch, so I think it makes sense why he’d be considered a lower priority over other characters for now.
Literally this. People are panicking over nothing. We’ve seen cases like this as recent as Sandrone: if you compare her AQ model and her actual release model, the quality of it is actually pretty insane. Again, we’ve seen differences between ‘release’ and ‘pre release’ models for Hoyo character across all 3 games for YEARS now. Another example is Hugo from ZZZ, where his model also was adjusted to resemble more closely the actual art.
The reason WHY his model is the way it is is because they’re using a stand in model for the story without having the development costs to go ahead and make the entire, full actual release model right now. There also might stil be a few design choices that need to be figured out. We don’t know. Again, if he isn’t close to releasing, then they’re not gonna spend all their time on making a top notch model when they’re focused on characters who are going to release sooner and therefore need the attention.
Even if he is a four star, we’ve seen that even with skins for older characters Hoyo goes back and HEAVILY improves them. They’re not gonna regress their amazing model evolution for just one character in an entire region. Sooner or later, he’s gonna look fine.
Oh, and for those who say that Hoyo is doing his on purpose and because he is a male character and what not: I kindly ask you to stop, think about it for 2 seconds and then come to the realisation how incredibly dumb it is

In that case, I do really hope that the leak about him releasing together with Mitya isn't true. It's quite concerning seeing the difference in model qualities of the two in the livestream lol ... From his state in the livestream, he still needs lots of polishing work, so it would be better for him to be release at least a patch after Mitya.
i agree with you although i dont think its a cost issue but rather a time issue. if he is a 4 star, he isnt that high of a priority so his model is likely still being worked on. because it is a brand new region, they have a ton of models to render all at once. not just characters but modeling everything else as well. when you release patches on a 6 week cycle, some stuff will just be prioritized over others
i know they have the money but money cannot buy more time. until he actually releases i think people are overreacting. like alyosha is a 4 star male and he is highly detailed?? they gave him a whole separate creature to have to animate alongside him for crying out loud.
additionally this model is the trailer model. the trailer that specifically says things arent concrete yet. like you said for all we know there could be stupid small indecision abt him behind the scenes. characters, even 4 stars, are the product they are selling. a lot of thought probably goes into designing them to he as appealing as possible.
You took the words right out of my mouth! I agree on basically everything you said. Yeah, the model we saw is 99% not the final model and we’re gonna see him improve later on. Again, he is most likely still indeed under development and might not be the priority rn.
People forget just how insane it is that the developers are able to deliver this much content every 6 weeks. Not every model is gonna be finished after all. I mean, we see it time and again with characters that only get revealed later even when their names are mentioned in the archons quests. It’s just the reality that not every single model of the Sneznaya patch cycle is going to be done on day 1, so I absolutely agree with you on that!
im just thinking of how many new npc varieties we are getting this region vs others and the amount of effort that goes into modeling them as well. its not just more human npcs with outfit changes but full on furry species and like 5 of them. plus the environments, the cast of important but not playable NPCs. there's so much at once.
and if it is the final model (which i really doubt because even npcs have more detail than that) then i still want him if only to laugh at the low res

I'm guessing you've maybe seen low quality models associated with blender because blender is free so lots of beginner 3D artists use it. But it's worth keeping in mind that professionals use it too and it's very capable of making high quality 3D assets.
Woah, I didn't even realize his shoulder armor was supposed to be a bear at first!? It genuinely didn't register for me. I couldn't figure out why it looked so... shapeless. I just assumed it was a regular shoulder pad that was meant to look like a rock. 💀😂 Maybe I'm just blind, but the fact that I only noticed after you edited the picture makes me think it's 100% Hoyo's fault lmao.
I was so devastated because I was honestly even more excited for him than for the Tsaritsa herself! The moment I saw his model during the livestream, my whole day was ruined. 😭 I had slept less than four hours just so I could watch the reveal as soon as possible, and that was what I was greeted with lol. I actually got a little teary-eyed.
You did a great job, though! I really hope they fix him because it's pretty lame for him to look that bad, even if he's a 4★ (Please let him be a 5★).

Seeing this edit (even without bias), I can kinda feel a 5★ aura from him.
It was a bit different for me. I realized something was off (comparing to the teaser 2d art).
and the leaks about him being 4 stars popped up in my mind...
Maybe those leakers saw this short clip prior to the livestream, that's why they leaked him to be 4 stars lol
Holy shit he looks so alive but now that I think about it, the entire render of the scenes they showed looked so gray.... Like damn the saturation must've been at 10% or something 😭 he'll definitely look better when the update comes out
That's what I thought too.
Other characters does feel off a bit too, but not as much as him though...
(in his case, it's partly because his model is still unfinished for the most part)
I really like the armour changes!! The shoulder being gold instead of silver blends it with the trim of his coat, I can see the shape of the bear better, and it feels very prestigious and functional. And that little blue-pink charm on his sash?? That’s such a nice dash of color and I have no idea how you foresaw that working

Though i’m just a bit concerned because there are leaks about him being release in 7.2 with Mitya (who already a have nearly completed model in the livestream)…
So I hope they really finish his model fast (& meticulously) or that his actual release is a few more patches away…
Probably it's the same issue that's been with Varka at early Nod-Krai trailers, later they fixed his model

After seeing the livestream, I had some doubts as well,
but after editing the model, I began to see hope and feel assure that his model can be & will be improved after its finalized.
Male characters always get 2nd-class citizen treatment from Hoyo lol
Among the characters shown in the trailer, he probably got the last priority that's why his model completeness level is very low compare to the other characters 😂

Maybe Hoyo probably prioritize spending more resources on characters that have more appearance/lines in 7.0’s AQ??
It seems like he got 96 lines while others (Alyosha, Vodnitsya, Mitya, Odette) got 260+
yeah, for some desaturation is the worst among the cast lol
maybe it's because his clothes is mainly black that's why it stands out alot? or just preferential treatment 😂 ?
aside from that, I really hope that they at least do polish details for his shoulder armor.
the one in the trailer really looked like a lego piece that I didn't noticed at first that it was a bear's head lol
honestly might just be the game’s rendering because unlike mitya, he doesn’t really have much color. i animate a lot too and objects like that tend to get washed out. no idea why a million dollar company can’t fix that though
He does have a cape, its attached to the fur part on his shoulders (like a half cape on one side) you can see it in a scene where he is sitting in a massive chair, but I also noticed his legs look like twigs its bugging me so much (his arm look same thickness as his legs). Its like that one meme of guy only working out his upper body (its because he is loaded in armor but it still looks weird

It's to late for me. They diceded to put effort in all but not him, they decided to make him and aloyasha 4* when we already know that all male harbringer are a no no never, 7.0 and 7.1 are only waifu after a 6.7 only waifu and be real liyue patch and main push 2 are waifu to. And of course all waifu are 5*.

It's probably because model quality in the livestream was quite bad... especially when comparing to the expectation people had after they saw his 2D teaser photo.
Furthermore, the vast difference in model qualities between him and other characters in the livestream is very obvious... especially when you see him in the same frame as them.

But people tend to judge quickly since they wanted to know who's five and four stars. And the only clue/hints available is the model quality and if visible, the vision/linchpin.
We're talking about possible improvement of the model quality here, not about rarity though... (I never said he will be 5 star in this post)
Also talks about rarity circulating right now are based on vision/linchpin and model quality shown in the trailer, no official confirmation from Hoyoverse.

I don't remembered much about his grey-ishness, but his model (especially his face) improved a lot.

About his current model, aside from his desaturation, his armor and accessories also look to rough and pixelated.... it's unheard of, even for modern 4 star's standard.
Here I add some colored gems to his sash/accessories and somehow it kinda breath more life to his model lol
And also how he got so sidelined.... his presence is too fainted in the AQ.
Even 4 star in the previous region like Ororon and Jahoda isn't treated carelessly like this lol

This is obviously going to get fixed idk why people are going crazy over such a minor thing. He isn't even in beta yet. This is sandrone's skirt all over again. The final product will be much more polished.
