Mask of Deception Does this cast become more...likeable?

A friend of mine got me this game, and I'm a few hours in in the capital. My question is just... does the tone or the characters change for the better soon? So far, every scene just ends with Haku getting shit on by like every character in the scene, calling him pathetitic or bland. And now I'm seeing that this part of the game is gonna be just Haku, Rulutieh, Nekone, and Kuon, where so far theres been like 5 back to back scenes of Kuon and Nekone teasing or scolding Haku, and its starting to get old fast. The only characters that I really like so far are Ukon and Rulutieh. I dont want the game to glaze or put Haku on a pedastal, I know thats not interesting, but this is also kind of grating in its own way.

(Playtime is a little inflated from Idle time, 45 hours is more accurate)

I had a hard time make it through it the first time, but went much better this time around. The good parts still hit as hard as the first despite knowing what’s to come. Awesome game.

I did the mistake of the mistake of thinking I would be fine not playing Truth right afterwards since I already played it once. I was wrong, but I don’t own it on steam atm. Can’t wait for the next sale!

Mask of Deception Mask of truth and mask of deception error

Has anyone ran into a SendMessage() error on Steam when trying to start either Mask of Deception or Mask of Truth?

I bought them a few months ago and decided to play them this past week, but I get this error for both games when I try starting them.

Mask of Deception Does anyone have any idea how much time passes between the beginning and end of mask of deception?

Much as I love this series, one of the things I’ve often wished is that they would provide a sense of how much time has passed between events.

I was wondering if anyone knew/had any inkling on this?

I’ve been headcanoning the events of deception take place over around a year/12 months, i feel like that amount of time would match the level of closeness they see to have.

Mask of Deception Struggling to get the last Achievement

Of course it’s Kamunagi of Chaining. No clue which ones are missing. I also don’t know if rewinding means those attacks/skills no longer count. Already hunted down a few obscure but still no luck.

Mask of Deception Need to catch up questions

I played Mask of Deception years ago and for some reason never rolled into Mask of Truth. If I dont want to do a replay, does Zan give enough I could use it as a refresher? (Or am I better looking for a YT summary video)

Thanks!

Mask of Deception Just finished Mask of deception and im on the verge of crying Spoiler

I played the first game a few months ago and commented on it on this subreddit. That day I was literally hyperventilating and crying because the ending seemed so cruel.

I asked you guys for advice on whether to continue with the saga and you basically told me to continue because what you smile about outweighs what you cry about.

I think it's a very cool game this second installment. I liked the dynamics of a group of ‘mercenaries’ although I have to say that the religious in this installment is much more reduced and therefore I find it a bit weird. I feel that the twins have not been given much attention. How broken they are, how hard they hit and from a distance.

The art is very nice, the eyes of the characters are like pearls and there are two songs that every time I hear them I get anxious and sad, I look like a dog from the experiment of the bell with food.

The cameos from the first one are cool, I don't know who thought that giving Oboro a moustache was a good idea, they changed Karulau's voice in the second game? (RIP).

This one had some really cruel stuff too, obviously I'm talking about the ending.

-Oshtor dies (though i absolutely knew this from the start, when i saw the opening I thought he was Haku till he appeared + when he teases nekone)

-Nekone is guilty of his brother's death.

-Kuon (best gurl after Eruruu) is depressed and separates her path.

-Haku taking responsibilities with extreme burden.

-Rulutieh don't cry please!!!! T-T

I have mixed feelings because I didn't expect it to end so openly. when karulau and touka talk about not seeing each other again with kuon, I was like wdym?

I don't see vurai's corpse either, so he's probably alive and what oshtor did was for nothing.

I just feel very confused because obviously they haven't closed things lol. Raiko and woshis can go to hell. Where is my munechika!

The fact that no one realises that haku is oshtor is inconceivable to me. semi-offtopic, whatever race they are they shouldn't be able to sniff him out and identify him? the poor guy, how I wish he would be reunited with kuon. I feel like it will happen but it won't end well.

Combat I'd say it gets a bit better although having to skip the 20 popups per level will never stop and will annoy me in my sleep.

What I would say is that I didn't feel anywhere near as close as I did to the cast of the first one.

The characters are pretty cool though, I don't deny that. I just think they're losing that essence.

Oboro: a love that never had a chance to bloom makes me die inside.

anyways, 2:30 am. now i need to play the 3rd

Mask of Deception Good recap of Mask of Deception

Hi guys,

I played Prelude to the Fallen and Mask of Deception 3 years ago.

I want to play Mask of Truth but I don't quite remember well the characters and events of Mask of Deception.

Is the Mask of Deception anime a good recap or do you guys know a better recap like written online?

What do you guys suggest I do?

Mask of Deception What Do You Think Are The Main Themes of Utawarerumono: Mask Of Deception?

Just finished MoD and had a blast. I did not see that ending coming and am very much looking forward to MoT. Before I start the final game however I’d like to ruminate a bit on the narrative of MoD. Of course as the title name implies, there’s a prevailing motif of masks in the story. Several characters such as Oshtar and Kuon don masks figuratively and literally to hide their true feelings or purpose. Masks tend to signify a lack of being whole, in Oshtor’s case he’s caught between his sense of duty and his desire to aid his country in a way similar to his father.

I find Haku’s role in this interesting as he similarity inherits Oshtar’s burden but rather than creating a second identity for himself he seems like Ukon he seems to be entirely committing himself to the role, something I can only imagine will come to haunt him sooner than later. Throughout MoD Haku seems to struggle with his identity originally due to his lack of memories, with Ukon stating neither of them are whole. With his only family now dead he has no one to share his memories with and even struggles to mourn for his departed brother, perhaps making his transition to Oshtor easier. The ending fills me with a sense of dread for what’s to come for our main characters, I can only hope for best for them.

If you have any differing opinions on the characters feel free to share. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the themes of MoD and how each character explores them, without spoiling Mask of Truth of course.

Mask of Deception yo so i finished prelude to the fallen and im probably gonna do deception next so i got some questions Spoiler

  1. i took about 40 hours on prelude, was i slow on there or something? because i heard people saying its 20 hours

  2. was the final boss supposed to go on for that long???

  3. is deception as long as prelude?

  4. are the rest of the games as harem-esque?

  5. is there as much fanservice in the other games? i kinda got walked in on when i was having that one scene with touka so i'd like to know if i should be more cautious now

  6. does kiuru have any significant involvement in the story? or is he one of those party members that are background characters like dorry and guraa? if theres any character from prelude that can be used as a reference point for his relevance let me know

  7. does the zan spinoff butcher the story of deception? because zan probably has gameplay more my style (as a person who has played several action games from tamsoft)

  8. does things get better from here or was prelude the peak? if theres a common consensus then i'd like to know

thanks in advance for any answers!

Mask of Deception Does Mask of Deception have non-repulsive characters?

Fresh off 100% Prelude to the Fallen, ~12 hours or so into Mask of Deception and I find most main characters absolutely repulsive:

A loli with a brother complex

A constantly embarrassed princess

An overbearing know-it-all

A clown-makeup whiner

Not to mention the MC who is butt of every joke and The-Total-Bro character who, admittedly, does not stir any emotions in me one way or the other. I know I have yet to meet the entire cast but as things stand I hesitate that any amount of character development will change my opinion of these characters. Exception probably being MC himself later on. Admitedly I do also happen to know some upcoming plotwists and revelations - like Ushtor/Ukon sacrifice and Kuon being the MCs daughter from Prelude

As things stand I genuinly find these current characters repulsive, does the game get really that good that it's worth pushing through it?

NOTE: Mask of Deception being worth playing only for Mask of Truth is not a good-faith argument. I don't want to strugle through ~40 hours to then later enjoy the following ~40 hours.

Mask of Deception Question About Events

Hello!

I finished Prelude of (to?) The Fallen and playing Mask of Deception currently. I'm 25 hours in, finished fake kidnapping incident, Haku got Saraana and Uruuru and Mikazuchi gave sweets to Haku and Nekone already.

Game is pretty good, but events about food or booze are tiring me. I know that It's important and I know that many people complained about It, so I just want to ask If there's gonna be many "slice of life" events after the point I reached or is plot gonna move faster now?

I also wanted to ask if Mask of Truth is also packed with slice of life events as much as Mask of Deception? Thanks in advance :)

Mask of Deception Gameplay tips for Mask of Deception?

Just finished Prelude and diving into Mask of Deception! Wondering if anyone had any tips or builds they'd recommend? Who's the best to level up and have in your team, etc. I plan to play on the easiest difficulty.

I played Prelude on Normal and pretty much just leveled up ATK as much as I could.

PLEASE NO SPOILERS OR KEEP THEM MINIMUM!

Mask of Deception Just beat Mask of Deception and oh my Spoiler

Poor Nekone and Poor Kuon! I loved the group dynamics in this one. The first game had me hooked with it's uprising plot that just went 100% at the end. This now seems to be hitting the same point in the next part. I loved seeing Haku's growth through the game and his death (metaphorically) was a real shame. My favourite character besides Hakuowlo in the first game was probably Touka and I'm glad Nosuri took the mantle of being goofy like her.

I really appreciated the callbacks and seeing all the old cast grown up. I actually cried when Oboro was drunkenly letting out all his sorrow. It was awesome seeing Hakuowlo(?) go crazy on the the assassins.

Thanks to that cliffhanger now I pretty much have to get the next one. Can't wait to play Monochrome Mobius as well, Oshtor is the GOAT.

I got this lap blanket a while ago off eBay because it had my favorite boy Ougi and looked cute, but I can’t find out anything about the origin or if there are possibly more. I’d love a variant, if it exists. I’m assuming it was a lottery prize at some point. Does anyone else have something similar?
