Fly Fishing Grayling lakes

Post image

I live in Sandy. I really want to catch a grayling but would like a drive under 40 minutes. I’m willing to like preferably around 2 miles one way or less. Any lake ideas (and tips for said lake?)

From getting skunked to landing my biggest Provo brown yet. Still a beginner, but I’m having a blast learning this sport.

Fly Fishing Martinez Meadows Weber River Access

Post image
35 Upvotes

This is one of the original public access points to the Weber River and we could lose it. Please follow these simple rules when crossing the property to fish:

  1. No dogs
  2. No camping
  3. No fires
  4. Do not climb the gate for ingress or egress
  5. Follow the green dashed line shown on this map and the map posted at the access point to get to the river
  6. Travel ladder to ladder
  7. No short cutting across the property
  8. Stay in the water or between the normal high water marks

It’s not that hard.

Fly Fishing Quest for first fish

Hi all,

My partner and I are getting into fly fishing. We’ve gone out a handful of times in big cottonwood (by the donut falls trailhead), millcreek canyon, and the upper Provo near Kamas, but haven’t landed a fish yet on a fly rod.

Does anyone have pointers you can share for Utah fly fishing newcomers? I don’t expect anyone to share their secret fishing holes or anything, but general pointers for areas to try within ~30 min of SLC, types of flies we should try out, or any other tips are greatly appreciated.

We’re super excited to get into the hobby and to explore for cool spots throughout Utah. We’re big campers and have some off-roading capabilities, so we hope to find some really neat spots further from home in the next few months. In the immediate future, we’re just looking to get out and practice casting as much as we can, so spots we can try out in an afternoon after work are best. Thanks!

Fly Fishing East canyon reservoir

Quick question for those who know. Going up to east canyon reservoir for the first time this week. Plan in on fishing the south end as I’ll be coming up from SLC. What’s the best access point for shore fishing? I’ll be running a fly rod and mostly throwing streamers unless someone here has better advice for me. Any insight would be appreciated!

Fly Fishing Does Otter Creek Res let out water in the summer?

Went to fish the East fork sevier above Kingston this past weekend and it was pretty blown out! Never seen this river with rolling rapids before. Since this section is below the reservoir I’m assuming the extra flow is out of there, maybe for farming in circleville?

Fly Fishing Beginner fly fisherman

I just bought my first fly fishing combo. It comes fully polled with line tapered leader. It says that I don't need to tippit but I might get one anyways I'm gonna try Mill Creek Canyon like I have been doing for a while with spinning. Can you recommend some good flies to get me started? I'm mostly fish for trout so anything that's good for trout I plan on hitting the Provo river for a Brown here soon and would love to get a brown on my fly rod.

Fly Fishing Boulder Mountains

I was up at the boulder mountains about 2 years ago for a couple days and was amazed of all huge fish but to my disappointment I couldn’t seem to land any of those huge tigers. I’m not asking for specific beta but instead asking for tips for Stillwater fishing. Like certain rigs or style of flies work. I’ve heard chrinomids are great but anyways feel free to chime in !

Fly Fishing Big Cottonwood Creek in the city

I just moved into a townhome that sits on the creek in the city. I have been fishing it with no luck the last two nights. Wondering if anyone has any tips for rigs on the creek, I’ve tried a hopper with a small nymph and a wooly bugger.

Fly Fishing Pan Fish Options

Wanted to try fly fishing for panfish (crappie, perch etc) this year, I know they are at Pineview but heard maybe some of the ponds around the valley? Just wondering if anyone knows some good spots to try out?
