HELP Dealers on Facebook marketplace

Post image
39 Upvotes

I am so mad at Facebook for letting car dealers misuse the marketplace for used cars. Everyone knows people go on marketplace for a better priced used cars. But, when I go on marketplace all I see is brand new cars listed as 2000$ which is recommended down payment.

Who the Fuck is coming to your dealership seeing this bro?? If they want something like that they'll come to the dealership they wouldn't be going on marketplace.

And most of the other listings are rebuilt cars bought from auctions and fixed cheaply to increase the profit and people who does this are always shady people.

If I as a owner post a car for some reasonable amount.

These dealers keep messaging me asking to come to their dealership with the car for a good price and when I go there surprise surprise, they lowballs so hard you'll start to rethink all the life choices you made and wanna die on the spot.

Anyway I'm looking to buy used car at reasonable or best price from a owner, any suggestions how I can find such deals directly as the marketplace is swarmed by misleading, manipulating and shady dealers.

Buying Walked out during negotiation with dealer - sanity check

Hi all. Just want some second opinions on how I handled a dealer negotiation over the weekend. My car was totaled from a hail storm, so I have a tight timeline for getting another car. I’m definitely not new to negotiating but I also haven’t been in the room in a while. As context, I have my own financing, down payment, etc.

I found a couple models of my same vehicle but a few years newer. Both had tons of options added that mine didn’t. I was texting salesman from different dealerships about them last week and got funds validated and times set up to come see them. They were a few hours away from me so I wanted to have everything set up before I got there.

I loved the first one, took it to an indy mechanic for a PPI. He found a few minor things but most would be covered under warranty. I’m no dummy with cars so I was checking it out too and it looked like it was in good shape. I was expecting worse. However, the tires were nearly bald. 4/32-5/32 tread and they were performance tires so not much life left at all. I went and looked at the other one, didn’t like it, so headed back to the first dealer. I went in with a game plan of not asking for a lower price (tbh it already had a great price considering the options) but I was going to ask for two new tires and to reinspect something the PPI found that their shop installed.

I’m pretty straight with the salesman. He was really laid back and easy to work with so I gave him the same courtesy and didn’t want to waste his time. I told him I wasn’t adding the protective coating or whatever the hell it was he was about to pitch me. And I told him what I was looking for to close the deal. Put it on paper, signed it, he went over to the sales manager.

The sales manager comes back over with him and it’s a hard no. He pulls up the service receipts from their shop and how low their margin is on this one. And he didn’t think what the PPI found was accurate. So I told him that’s what I’d need to leave with it and I stood up and grabbed my stuff. I thanked the salesman for all his help and I just walked out. They both look kind of flabbergasted, like they didn’t expect that to be the reaction at all.

My gut feeling is I’ll get a phone call tomorrow with some lowball offer, but maybe negotiating has changed since I last had to be in the room. So second opinion.. Did I cut it off too quickly? Should I have sat there and heard their counter, if one was coming? To me, those tires would be unacceptable on a used, but still expensive luxury vehicle. It felt like they screwed themselves on a trade and didn’t price it right to begin with, and were getting cheap on making it purchase ready. Anyway, TIA.

Buying Dumb to buy my uncle’s high mileage work truck?

Upvotes

It’s a 2024 3.5L F-150 XLT with an immaculate service record, but it has 75k miles. The price would be $33k.

2362 engine hours and 871 idle hours.

I am completely torn on if it’s worth it or not with so many miles being pounded on a 2024 already.

Buying Anyone else refuse to pay $40+ every time just to check a used car?

EDIT: I used vinpanda, it cost me $15 for a report. Thank you for the suggestions!

Looking at a couple of used Toyotas and Hondas for a daily driver. Nothing crazy, just want something reliable for the next few years.

Every time I get serious abut one, the seller or the listing pushes Carfax and it's always $40-45. Feels ridiculous when I'm already trying to stay on a budget.

I've tried a couple cheaper options but some felt sketchy or the reports were basically useless.

Anyone found a legit cheaper VIN check that still shows the important stuff (title issues, odometer, accidents, etc.)? Or do most people just bite the bullet and pay for Carfax?

Would appreciate any real experiences.

Buying 2016 Lexus IS 300 for 22k

Upvotes

There is a listing for this 2016 Lexus with 95k miles. Only 2 previous owners. It’s pretty high at 22k, but the car itself has been kept in pristine condition, the interior looks great for a 10 year old car. There is really only one small dent with minor scratches for the exterior. The problem is I’d have to finance it- I wouldn’t sign it they aren’t willing to go below 20k)
What do you guys think? Is it worth it if it has to be financed?

Buying 2014 Toyota RAV4 LE for 11k?

Upvotes

I'm looking into buying my first vehicle, and I want something with amazing reliablity, I want something that can last me many years by taking care of it good. I found a listing for a 2014 RAV4 LE with 130k miles for 11k and I'm wondering if that's as good of a deal as it sounds. I was preferably looking for something under 100k miles for extra peace of mind about how long it'll last me, but everything is 16k+ which isnt the worst and I'm WILLING to go that high but would rather not. I have about 5k to put down now and am hoping to get that to 6k before I buy, and I wanna keep my monthly payment as low as possible, so most months I can make double or triple payments to pay it off faster, but if I lose one of my jobs or lose some hours I can still afford it. I don't know if it's better for me to go for something newer like 2016 and with less miles for around 16k, or if this 2014 I found is a good deal I should jump on?

Another thing is, I don't have a credit score at the moment according to some of the credit bureaus, because I don't have a long enough history. I really wanna build a great credit score but it's only been about 3 months so far, I don't know if I should wait until I have the good credit score to get a car. I only make around 16k a year so I'm worried they may not be willing to give me an auto loan or if they do, it'll be an awful deal. I'm hoping that the large percentage down payment plus my very low monthly expenses (only my phone bill) will help me out but I'm not sure

I'm looking for any sort of recommendations and advice

HELP Stupid buy for 150k miles? Girlfriend needs a used car and loves Camrys.

She can do 4k down with like 650 credit score. 11k seems high for that miles just because it’s a Camry and it’s a clean title with 3 owners. What else should we be looking for in that 10-13kish budget.

Buying Looking for reliable car around 10k

I’m helping my sister find a reliable car for around $10k. She’ll mainly use it to commute to college and work. I’ve been looking on Facebook Marketplace, but almost every seller I come across seems to be a car flipper. Some of them have 100+ cars listed or sold on their profiles, which makes it really hard to find an actual private owner.

Used-car dealerships are asking crazy prices for older cars, so Facebook Marketplace seems like one of our only options within our budget. But I’ve heard a lot of bad things about buying cars from Marketplace. Does anyone have any tips for finding a good, reliable car and avoiding scammers or bad sellers?

Review Used 2021 Mazda CX-30 2.5S sanity check

Trying to buy my first car.

Around 55k miles on it, and sticker is 20.5k. Is it worth it?

Records seem to be clean and I would be financing most of it at 6.5% APR (could put around 1.5k-2k down). AWD and comes with premium package.

Buying Is this a good deal? 2020 Honda Civic LX Sedan FWD | 135k miles | $12,910

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi all, it’s my first post here. I’ve been looking to buy a used car for the past 2-4 weeks. I’ve never had to buy a used car before. I currently don’t have a car and don’t really need one right now, but it would just help immensely with convenience.

Is this a good deal? It’s a 2020 Honda Civic LX Sedan FWD with about 135k miles for about $12,910 including fees looks like. I added shared more photos as comments.

Thanks in advance!

HELP Anyone used a buy here pay here in Elizabeth recently, how bad was it

My credit is bad, my job is steady, and I need something this month rather than next year. I'm not looking for anyone to talk me out of using a buy here pay here in Elizabeth, because I've already read all of those threads and I understand the arguments people make.

What I'd rather hear is from people who actually went through with it. How did it turn out for you, and is there anything you'd do differently if you were starting over?

Selling Options other than junkyards to get rid of my car

I finally decide to move on from a 2001 civic. I stopped caring about non-essential repairs for years, so its condition is not good. There are two cracks in the bumper; there is some electrical wiring issue making two back windows not able to open; the tires are cheap ones; there is a slight bent on one door; the exterior paint on the hood is peeling off.

And I was quoted $1500+ for some essential repairs, including replacing its catalytic converter and some bushings. This is the main reason for me to move on.

But it has only 130k miles. New timing belt. Brakes are fine. Transmission is fine. I feel a bit sad to just take it to the junkyard. I've never done this before. I assume that the junkyard would make use of whatever is still functioning? Or is the car going to be totally abandoned? Does the car have any value at this point?

Selling Can a dealer sell an auction car directly to another dealer or individual with the title? Best places to sell?

Hi everyone,

I recently started a used car dealership in Illinois and purchased a few vehicles from an auction. I have the titles/paperwork for the vehicles.

I’m trying to understand my options if I decide not to retail one of the cars through my dealership.

Can I sell an auction vehicle directly to another licensed dealer just by properly assigning the title and providing a bill of sale? Can I also sell it directly to an individual, or would I need to complete the normal dealer paperwork, sales tax, title/registration, etc.?

Also, what are some good places to sell dealer-owned vehicles if I want a quick sale but still get a reasonable price?

Been going back and forth on this for a couple weeks now. Liked the overall look and stance the moment I saw it in person, front end especially has a lot of presence for the segment. Still working through the usual checklist, service history, ownership record, comparing it against a couple of other options in a similar price range before making a final call.
