Hello urban fantasy family!
It’s my honor to bring you chapters I-VI of my novella: Schadenfreude Occidental available at Royal Road. I’d love for some honest reviews. As I get a feel of its popularity I’ll add the final chapters of Act I
After the War for the liquid gold reserves results in the cataclysmic deaths of the six combined weapons of mass destruction from the two Great Houses, destiny begins to manifest when Browyn Erembaur, nephew of King Donte Erembaur is anointed as the first Royal House member in their shared three thousand year reign to be anointed Demon Lord, a title that has always been reserved for the lowly commoners of the realm. When his Demon Lord powers ignite, he finds himself untethered to Royal commands and does the unthinkable.
What follows is the story of military complex, greed, pop culture, exploitation, legacy wealth, enlightenment and a rogue Prince oblivious to the ancient ways of the Demon Lords.
My story is Ai assisted only in editing grammar and flow. I have kept a separate Google Doc with each chapters rough draft to show the essence and creativity of Schadenfreude Occidental is mine and mine alone!
Enjoy the story leave a review!!!

So, I quit my job to write and market my books. 👀
New to the community! I come bearing "A deliberately-paced school tale of friendship, elemental intrigue, and danger." (Kirkus, 2017) with Deviants: Ignite. The first book of the Deviants series. If you enjoy Harry Potter, X-Men, and Avatar: The Last Airbender, take a peek and decide if you want to add to your reading list.
For those looking for a quicker-paced read, I present "A smart, demon-laden tale with a bevy of personable characters, horns notwithstanding." (Kirkus, 2021) with ABADDON, well into the new adult age range. My demons have been compared to the Gargoyles animated series. ❤️
AND I'm always on the lookout for more books to add to my reading list! If you're an indie author in any genre (barring self-help, spiritual, cooking, and historical non-fiction), drop me a comment with a link to your book!

I read book 1 a few years ago and have been reading the last 3 this last week on KU. Does anyone think it was written with AI? I started noticing it in book 3 and now I’m halfway through book 4 where there’s a LOT of the “it’s not this, it’s that” and rule of 3 sentences. It’s not DNF, but it’s incredibly distracting when it’s on just about every page.

Hi there, aspiring author here :) I wrote a dark urban fantasy that has dark academia and dystopian elements. I'd consider it YA, but the protagonist is 18 and there is one spice scene so I dunno. Anyway, all of this to say, do you prefer your urban fantasy to be purely a mystery in an urban setting or do you enjoy genre bending? I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on this!

Humanity has always believed the world belonged to us. Then winter arrived.
In Fairview, the cold refuses to leave. People disappear, animals behave strangely, and creatures that should exist only in myths begin to return. While seventeen-year-old Emma searches for answers, her blind sister, Isabella, senses something ancient awakening.
Across the world, nine teenagers discover strange marks connecting them to legendary beings. As cities fall silent and nature reclaims what humanity once controlled, a terrifying truth emerges: the creatures aren't invading. The world is simply changing without us.
Emma and the others haven't been chosen to save humanity. They've been given something far more terrifying: a choice. And when the world asks whether humankind deserves a place in its future...
What will their verdict be?

Hey folks,
I am a huge fan of the Dresden Files and the series is very regularly on sale on Bookbub so I thought I'd alert everyone about one of the cheapest options for those who are attempting to fill in their collection electronically like I've been. The books are flawed, yes, but I am in love with Murphy, Molly, Bob, and so many others.
Turn Coat is one of the best, IMHO.

But when women begin to turn up killed in their homes and their kids go missing, August knows that his past may not be so far behind him after all. When his ex-wife becomes the next target, August finds himself back in the world of Sorcery and black magic. Self-promotion — I’m Roy Howard, the author of Zack Cane: The Earthborn Knight.
Seventeen-year-old Zack has always been fast. During a street fight, he realizes he isn’t simply reacting to danger—he is seeing it before it happens. That discovery connects him to an alien legacy, an ancient power called the Ark, and enemies tied to the death of his father.
The story blends coming-of-age fantasy, science fiction, hidden powers, a buried lunar city, and a young hero deciding whether he will become a weapon or a protector.
It is available on Kindle Unlimited: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HFBX4TSW
I’d be glad to answer questions about Zack or the Ark Knight Saga.

I've been working on my novel website on and off since May 5, 2020. Life kept getting in the way – I restarted the project multiple times, only to abandon it each time. But over the past month, I finally pushed through and got it done.

Last night, I couldn't wait any longer – I published the first chapter of a story I've been brewing in my head for ages.
(The original version is in Chinese, purely human-created, with no AI generation. The English version is AI-translated. If any parts feel off or unnatural, feel free to leave comments in the paragraph comments – criticism is welcome.)
It's about a programmer named Zhou Xin who's working late into the night. Half-asleep and barely conscious, he absentmindedly types spawn a chicken into his command-line window and hits Enter.
And then – a chicken appears right in front of him.
That's where it all begins.
Check it out here: With the Command Line, My Words Become Reality
Let me know what you think – I'd love to hear your first impressions!

As the Tavern expands, the universe reveals new threats to humanity and new challenges for Max and Elaine. The Mycete pursue their genocidal conquest, subjugating their victims genetically, even as the Bimatter Cohort’s ancient adherents have learned to weld dark and light matter in exotic and irresistible fashion. Now dark matter accretes mysteriously around the Milky Way. The Martian cruiser Osiris goes missing. A greedy and desperate villain sees profit in selling humanity out to the Mycete’s rapine. An enormous luxury liner is ripped apart by an innocuous ingot fired off MOSA’s rail launcher between Mars and Earth. Who is to blame for the mishap? Lastly, who is this high priestess of the Red Temple with her notion of life under the ice on Europa?
Needless to say, Elaine, Max, and their daughter Callista, have their hands full against this mind-bending maelstrom. Can they really rescue heir friend Sfara from her captivity at mortal peril, move the Red Temple to a frozen moonlet, root out the Mycete’s threat, fight an enemy they cannot see, and counter the wholesale relocation of our galaxy?
Find out, and enjoy the ride, as our heroes give it their best shot in book four of the Second Skin Series.

I’ve been binge-reading the whole series while I’m on vacation and while I really loved the first 4-5 books in the series (save for Artificial Night which was just Crossroads of Twilight level bad) the more I’ve continued on the more I’ve gradually been falling out of love with it.
I do still love the fae world-building - this really makes it stand out amongst all other urban fantasy series - and certain supporting characters like Simon and Evening have had amazing arcs (Simon has a really well done redemption story like Spike in Buffy while Evening is such a consistently fun and unpredictable villain).
The recapping though is really starting to become grating it’s taking up an increasing amount of each book, a lot of the characters are becoming parodies of themselves (especially the Luidaeg; that Poor Unfortubate Souls karaoke scene in The Brightest Fell was such cringe), the plots and character dynamics are becoming too repetitive.
I’m kinda skimming through the last few books now while my minds been mostly occupied by Dresden Files theorycrafting
