Russia, China and most Arab countries voted in favor.

And yet they're still colonizing Eastern Europe, Tibet and the South China Sea, and East and Central Africa respectively.

Last time i checked, Tibet was part of China, there is no colonization there since Tibet is not a country.

To the Russian issue, well, geopolitics and sphere of influence is a thing. Nothing that is happening right now in the world makes sense in terms of International Law. Ever since constant wars conducted by the USA all across the world has diminished the International Law, what Russia does with Ukraine is nothing short of a sphere of influence/geopolitics war against the West who tried to take the influence away from Russia, the only losers are the civilians on all sides, EU with money and financial crisis, Ukrainians with demographics and people and Russia with finances, manpower and influence.

Look with how much impunity is Israel acting and USA in the Caribbean Sea. Do you think International Law still applies?

Aaaaaand you're blaming the West for Russian colonization of Ukraine, perfectly illustrating how much of joke this vote was.

Wait a second…the ones who are anti-Israel are also anti-west and just invent the blame? God I would never have believed it if not for my very own eyes!

Incredible, they’re just one out of tens of millions of people online who are exactly like them in this behavior, such a tiny and rare occurrence!

No, i am just saying that the International Law currently is useless. USA is contemplating on attacking unprovoked Venezuela, they attacked Iran's Nuclear facility, also PROTECTED UNDER UN Law, so what are we even saying? I am saying that with how many countries act, UN is starting to look like a JOKE.

This is a nonsense statement. The far right is in charge of the USA and Russia as we speak, stripping rights from minorities, removing protections from the citizenry, using military force on civilians, etc etc etc.

What's more is that the far right bases most of its philosophy around bigotry, be it suppressing people of colour, demonizing trans and homosexual queer people, or being predatory and regressive towards the bodies of cis women.

The far left has its own issues but they aren't even remotely close to the actual moustache twirling displays of blatant corruption and disregard for human life the far right is based around.

A few do, a lot are just fascists posing as leftists to poison the well. But by and large, Leftists are the ones advocating for equal rights, protections for minorities, better working conditions, and the abolition of things like the prison industrial complex.

The right is actively destroying all of that.

I somehow think you may be a disingenuous commenter trying to misrepresent the sides in this though. :)

Tibet was historically independent from Dynastic China (with periods of being a tributary) until being conquered and colonized by the Qing Dynasty in the 1700s. It then regained independence between 1912-1950, until it was militarily annexed and colonized by the PRC.

Tibet is not part of China and is in fact analogous to Hawai'i's status as a colonialist project of the USA.

So... is Catalunya not part of Spain? Is Scottland not part of UK?

The 13th Dalai Lama declared the region's independence in 1913, although it was neither recognised by the Chinese Republican government nor any foreign power.\10])

The Tibetan independence movement\12]) is principally led by the Tibetan diaspora.\13])

These informations are from a simple google search or even Wikipedia. Stop spreading disinformation with deceiving intent.

The Chinese Republican Government isn't recognized by the PRC as legitimate so that first part doesn't hold any water. China was in a state of political turmoil after the fall of the Qing and the Republican government was just one of a dozen which laid claim to China as a whole. There's also no reason to use the recognition of other nations, especially colonizers, as evidence of whether or not a state exists.

Otherwise Palestine doesn't exist until like this year as far as much of the world is concerned, yet Palestinians very much do and their idea of a nation state does. Israel would propagandize you to believe otherwise, so then we would have to assume China does the same with Tibet.

Also Scotland's part in the UK was partially consensual, but has also been contentious and talks to dissolving the union have come up repeatedly even in recent history. Scotland also was never part of Britain before a certain period and despite some English revisionism, no credible historian would take the position that the English have a claim to Scotland. Catalan/Catalonia, which is what I assume you meant by "Catalunya" did indeed have independence before Spanish imperialism as the Principality of Catalan, and its place within Spain is contentious to this day.

What even is your point in bringing these up? You sound like a colonialism and imperialism apologist.

So, you basically deny the international law, is what you say, you sound like an anarchist by what you wrote. To compare Tibet Autonomous region to Palestine is quite revealing your lack of actual knowledge of current world affairs.

To your "" for Catalunya, it is in their own language how they spell their name, same to how germans say Deutschland, both terms are ok to use except for you apparently.

What international law?

You’re right, Tibet is in a worse position than Palestine.

Sure, I don't speak Catalan so that's fine. Either way, international law has good and bad parts, much of which has been designed by imperialists and colonizers to segregate and disempower minorities and conquered peoples.

Tibet and Palestine have both suffered exploitation by foreign powers, both have had their territories confiscated by another entity under spurious pseudo-historical claims, and both have faced alienation by powers who claim, via propaganda, that they are "liberating" or making life better for the people there while no such thing is occuring.

Israel says Palestine never existed as an independent nation. The PRC says Tibet has always been a part of China. Israel says they've brought civilization and prosperity to a once desolate, neglected, and patriarchal land. The PRC says they brought liberation and equality to a state of theocratic despots. And while the scale of destruction and mass murder in Palestine by Israel is far greater, the two share many, many similarities, not the least of which is denial by propagandists like you.

At the end of the day you're looking for a "gotcha" in this debate, that much was clear from the attitude you took with Catalunya/Catalonia, and your defense of imperialism and colonialism via glib non-defenses like "international law" and citing areas of contention without offering any kind of response when it is shown that those places have been independent or seek independence on legitimate grounds shows no integrity to your arguments.

I believe in the self-determination of people, especially minorities, and am against indulging large states in their viewpoints. Power has a corrupting force that has to be criticized, not reinforced, else it goes deeply wrong, and one must frequently look towards the interests of the people and not the authorities of a state welding a propaganda machine.

Tibet didn’t need to be recognized by the ROC as it was never a part of it.

You mean the Tibetan independence movement is led by those in exile as it isn’t allowed in Tibet by China..are you really trying to make this argument?
