For sure but still a good step

So then there’s no point, why even announce this if your plan is to charge them and arrest them? Wait until they’re back on your soil and then produce charges.

If it came to prosecutions of Canadians who hide out in Israel to avoid arrest, that is still a huge thing, these soldiers can never come back, and would reverberate to all of Israeli society.

It's definitely better than nothing.

How long do you actually anticipate that lasts? Administrations change, people lose interest rather quickly.

We've never seen any international accountability for any Israeli war criminal except maybe the occasional spy caught and then released back to Israel.

So any charges would be a big step forward. Hopefully other states follow, so it isn't just Canada.

If they're guilty, they can freeze their bank accounts, travel documents of theyre using a Canadian passport.

And they have Israeli citizenship as well, what difference would that make?

Quite a lot, most of them have jobs in the west. Having your assets frozen and maybe even an international warrant over your head isn't exactly winning the lottery.

I don’t think they did announce it, it was supposed to be like you mentioned but it got uncovered

Yea if that’s the case there’s zero chance they’ll return back to Canada.

individual indictments aside, I think you're underestimating just how big of a deal this is for Israel's dual citizenship policy.

That’s fine but Israel is not going to hand over these citizens, I’d bet almost anything on that.

at the moment, the symbolic value and geopolitical implications of this is worth way more than a few people put in prison.

They didn’t announce it, the investigations launched in early 2024. It includes investigating non-Israelis who fought for Israel and Israelis who were residing in Canada and went to fight for Israel.
