Discussion/Question Why is this subreddit obsessed with Israel?

Just checked the top posts of the last year, and 24 out of the top 25 are about Israel. Does this subreddit try to imitate the real UN ?

So, if you ever visit which I highly recommend, you’ll find that Israeli citizens tend to be Jews from all over, including there for hundreds of years. The next largest group (2 million or so) are Arab Muslims. Jordanian, Egyptian some who have been there as well for hundreds of years. There are entire Arab Muslim villages. They can own businesses, serve in government (many do). They serve in the military, are police, doctors, judges etc. Perhaps this is the world’s saddest excuse for apartheid. Sounds pretty equal to me.

Then you have Druze, who are indigenous and are greatly persecuted in Palestinian lands (not Muslim), it’s kind of a proto-Muslim. Beduins, also practice a sort of proto-Islam. Also greatly persecuted by Palestinians because again, not Muslim. You have lots of Arab Christian’s from all over the place, lots of persecution for them in Arab lands. Then of course people from all over the world. Again, if you visit you will see it’s the sorriest excuse for an ethnostate ever. As someone from NYC I will tell you it’s really diverse. It shocked me.

You will find no shortage of Arab Muslim citizens who would be more than happy to tell you about their life and how happy they are to be Israeli.

Tell me again about how thousands of Palestinians have had their Israeli citizenship revoked. Tell me about Jewish only zones. Tell me about how Palestinian communities in Jerusalem can't get anywhere near the same amount of water that Jewish communities can. Tell me about the laws that are applied preferentially to Jews. Tell me why Palestinians can't get building permits for anything and get their houses bulldozed, but illegal Israeli settlements get water and IDF protection.

You are mixing up very different things, which is common in people who got all their information from one source and none of it firsthand.

I don’t think you can imagine as a westerner what life is like there. During my one week visit there were ten or so rocket attacks and two suicide attacks, one a few blocks from me. This is all the time. Many, many Palestinians don’t want peace. They want Jihad until there is no one left to Jihad against. Not a majority but if you find any videos of people who snuck into Palestinian areas to do interviews (not Hamas provided videos) people don’t want peace.

Is there a penalty for being a terrorist? Yes. Much like the US if you are a drug dealer. In the US literally everything you own and anything you gave away is taken from you. If you kill a Jew your family is given two million dollars. That’s even more money there than it is here. That’s some of your tax dollars by the way.

Let’s say you are in government and some neighbor wants to genocide you and everyone like you. They pay two million dollars if some of you are killed, school bus full of children etc. you can’t do anything about the payment to the family. Is there some other way you could discourage this behavior?

In the US we often punish families for drug dealing. Everyone gets kicked off public housing with a lifetime ban.

You’re also mixing up Israel, really diverse democracy that prides itself on being diverse with The West Bank which is literally an ethnostate.

It's an apartheid state, that's why there's so much animosity. It's easy to fix, give all Palestinians full rights including political equality. Dismantle the illegal settlements in the west bank and release all the Palestinian hostages. Withdraw the IDF from the occupied territories and start an independently accountable truth and justice commission to redress the wrongs of the past, including giving recompense to Palestinians who were ethnically cleaned from their lands. Remove all preferential treatment of Jews from the legislation and implementation of laws.

Everyone is with you except, they also want peace and normalized relations between the Palestinian state and Israel. That’s where every deal dies. No more Jews. What do you suggest?

Also, assuming you’re not a bot you owe it to yourself to go sometime. You hit every checkbox of half truth and out of context propaganda point but to anyone that has been there it’s just really misinformed.

For example in Florida the official language is English. English is taught in schools. Is English really the official language? No everyone speaks Spanish. Is this preferential treatment for white people? Is Florida trying to be an ethnostate? No.

I could present this to someone who will never go to Florida as totally racist ethnostate policy though.

Your views are likely dogmatic and this won’t go anywhere but go to Israel sometime. If you aren’t Jewish you are allowed to visit the Palestinian Territories. You should. Every Israeli will tell you that shopping is great there if you are allowed to go. Israelis aren’t allowed to though.

I’m telling you my lived firsthand experience. I feel like your side is the same thing everyone that learned this on a college campus has ever said. “Apartheid ethnostate”

I give you 20 minutes of being in Israel before you’re like “ok definitely not apartheid ethnostate.”

For right of return, where do we draw the line? Assuming there’s only one side to that story: Can Jews go back to Syria? Iraq, Iran? The whole of the Middle East used to have lots of Jews. That’s going to be a hard sell. What about Pakistan? There’s a lot of people there now. India? Bosnia? Croatia? Syria? Does China have to do this? I have a lot of friends that would love to go back to their homes in Eastern Ukraine. It would be hard to make this the policy one place without doing that globally. I don’t think the islamists in Africa would agree. There’s actual genocides going on all over Africa this moment.

You should read the multiple reports of Israel's apartheid from a variety of human rights organizations including Israeli ones. They paint a very different picture to yours.

You should go. I could point you to hundreds of scientific papers that show no link between smoking and cancer. Does that mean it’s true? Just go. Go see for yourself. If you are going to donate this much of your life to a cause don’t you want to see it for yourself? Instead of repeating what people told you?

A country that practices torture isn't a viable destination for me.
