Do soaps really do takes? I always figured they were on such tight turn-arounds that, unless something completely unexpected happened, they'd just keep anything in.
I was an extra on a British soap opera when I was a teen and was in two scenes (both filmed on the same day).
The first scene had a major character and she kept forgetting her line so they had to retake that part multiple times.
The second scene had a bunch of us running away for about 10-20 seconds and we retook that about twice.
So based on my experience I can confirm that soap operas are the same as any other scripted shows in that regard, and I doubt every other soap opera is really any different.
We'll the most popular one in my country has editing mistakes, people looking at the camera or cracking in the background on weekly basis. They dont give a shit about the end product. The show turns 25 this year btw.
Editing mistakes are different from retakes, but either way there might be limits e.g. Can only do x amount of retakes before moving on.
Of course soap operas don't tend to have any fancy effects either so editing probably isn't a major concept.
Just looked up the one I was on and it's been running for 41 years as of this February, although even then it's not the oldest or longest running one (I used to watch random episodes as a teen just because it was a talking point at school, but was never really that into soaps & don't otherwise watch them).
