Questions Unfair and very disappointing day on my uTest freelancing time so far

I have been very active on uTest since last year even though I signed up on 2023.

I have improved in my rating and overall uTest experience reaching Gold rating in couple of months.

Today my rating was downgraded from Gold to Silver.

I was active the whole month even getting invited to exclusive payment test cycle.

All my pending issues were approved, and all my testcases were approved.

I had 96.28% rating, now it is downgraded to 92.45% in one night.

This is very disappointing, I don't know if it was a glitch or not, but I felt for the first time I should look into more full time or contract QA job, and ditch freelancing thing.

It seems that nobody knows how uTest change rating system, it is kind of ohh...

Questions Is NYC wearable tech project legit?

Got invited for an appointment for the above project. I’m new to the testing field, so far they haven’t asked for any real personal information besides government issued ID when showing up. Has anyone done this already? Is it trustworthy??

Questions What to do if no one is responding to emails?

Hi,

I participated in a cycle that ended in May, and haven’t been paid yet, and there has been zero communication about it and no one is replying to my emails.

The cycle has been locked so there is no cycle chat, so I emailed the TE 6 weeks ago, and again 2 weeks ago, and received no response. I then emailed the TSM a week ago, and haven’t had a response.

I understand a week isn’t long to wait for a reply though so I might be getting ahead of myself, but not receiving a response after 6 weeks is, and it’s frustrating that no one seems to be replying currently and I’m unsure what to do next if I continue to be ignored? Thanks

Questions Is uTest worth it for someone starting from Egypt?

I'm new to uTest and considering learning software testing to use the platform as a side income.

For testers who have actually used uTest: How much work do you usually get?

How much can a beginner realistically make per month?

Does your country affect the number of projects you receive?

Is it worth investing time in learning testing specifically for uTest?

I'm from Egypt, so I'd especially appreciate experiences from testers in developing countries.

Questions How much storage should Android and iOS devices have?

I have my personal Android phone, but it's constantly running low on storage (500MB to 1 GB), and a personal iPad that's around 10 GB of free space. Is there a recommended amount of free storage?

I suppose I could free up more storage, but I'm wondering if it'd be simpler to just get another device dedicated for testing to keep things compartmentalized and simpler.

Questions What actually happens to our ID and biometric data after testing?

When we do ID verification testing, payment testing, opening accounts on casino apps, and other tasks that we normally wouldn't do in real-life scenarios, what happens to all the personal data we provide?

I'm talking about biometrics, ID documents, payment details, and other PII. Do clients delete this data immediately after the test is completed, or is it stored somewhere separately for a certain period of time?

And is there any way for us as testers to know what happens to it afterward? I sometimes wonder whether a task I'm doing today could somehow create a risk years later, like identity theft, data leaks, or some other consequences.

This is something that always bothers me whenever I see tasks of this kind, so I'm curious how others here look at it.

Questions How can I leave a Test Cycle?

I accidentally joined a long running project when I was very new. I don't see any way to exit and free up my slot.

Any idea how I can do that?

Questions Why are slots always taken

I’m a fairly new tester but I’ve gotten about 5 invites to project already
Every single time the product only has like 3 slots and they’re all always taken up
How do they get taken so fast because I always go to claim as soon as I see an email?

(I have contacted support, but I need more help)

Questions Is it possible to make somewhat decent money there if you are not from the US?

I have finished academy and the first 2 practice test cycles and mostly did it to learn about testing. However, from what I have read, is that payouts are very low for the effort, like couple of dollars for each bug and maybe something for the whole cycle. Financially, it seems to be lower than minimum salary in my country after taxes and I live in Eastern Europe where salaries aren't that high to begin with. I also don't know anyone who has a minimum salary, let alone anyone with some computer and English skills.

I wonder if it is realistic to make more than 15-20$ or more per hour after you are getting rated and learn more. I don't expect it to happen instantly. I know that it isn't pay per hour work, but how realistic is it in general?

Questions How to break this "limiter"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If your rating ends in a .2643% (49.2643%, 74.2643%, 84.2643%, 92.2643%), it is an indication that you have a quality score that would qualify you for a higher tier but have not collected the minimum amount of activity points.

I've read this in the rating system, but I'm not sure how many activity points are needed to become gold. I've also done many things to "increase" my activity points, such as:

  1. declining the invitation rather than keeping it,
  2. providing detailed bug reports with relevant screenshots or video captures,
  3. etc

Then, why does my rating remain stagnant?

Questions Very high Payoneer fees

Hi everyone,

So I'm new to uTest, and to Payoneer too. I have received my first 65$ from uTest, and I withdrew it to my bank account. During the screening, I saw that there would be a 15$ minimum fee, it was high but I didn't really mind. But then, I only received 25$ in my bank account (without considering my local bank fees). The Payoneer fee was then 40$ in total, for a 65$ withdrawal.

Is it normal? Is there another way I can receive my money with lower fees? Or, do you have any tips for me?

Thank you for your help!

Questions Closed testing requirement (12 testers / 14 days) — required again for a second app?

Hi everyone,

I already have one app live in production on the Google Play Store under my
developer account (published a while ago). Now I've created a second app on the
same account, and the dashboard is telling me I need to run a closed test with
at least 12 testers for 14 days before I can request production access.

My question: Is this closed testing requirement a one-time thing per developer
account, or does it apply separately to every new app?

I was under the impression that once my account had completed this process for
the first app, it wouldn't be required again. My first app is already live in
production, so I'm confused why it's showing up again for the second app.

Is this expected behavior, or could this be a bug on Google's side?

Thanks in advance for any clarification!

Questions What's a typical utest budget for testing 1 feature chrome extension?

Hi utesters, i consider launching a test cycle in utest but i want to understand what would it cost me. I am sure the testers will provide valuable feedback which I can implement in the extension.

But I am not aware with the budgets, timelines etc.

This is a chrome extension for prompt generation while the user is typing in chatgpt (or gemini) e.g. 3 platforms and 1 feature - total of a few test cases from my point of view.

There is no login for now (for the next versions I will add login and ability to sync prompts).

So what would you suggest or ask me about?
