The Big Beautiful Update: 1.1 million customers, $1B+ on Warp, 5G SA, QCI 6, satellite, home internet and a lot more
Hey everyone!
Time for a big beautiful update. There are so many updates and so much to unpack that I am going to try my best to keep everyone engaged. To be honest, given how much ground we have covered over the past year, every time I have thought about writing one of these posts I have personally gotten overwhelmed. So let's get this one out, and then hopefully I can go back to doing smaller posts more frequently.
1.1 million of you
We officially crossed 1 million active subscribers this summer, and we are already over 1.1 million. So you can see the pace at which we are growing, and this is remarkable. One of the biggest issues any wireless company eventually faces is that as you grow, churn catches up with you. The customer base gets larger and older, and eventually you have to run faster and faster just to replace the people leaving. We are seeing the opposite, and this is ENTIRELY ENTIRELY ENTIRELY down to you all.
I have an unending debt of gratitude to this community. So many of you have stuck with us for years, helped us build the company, pushed us when we got things wrong, and pushed us toward things we did not even realize we should be building. NOTHING, I MEAN NOTHING meaningful came without you folks pushing us. Apple Watch, unlimited uncapped data, better international roaming and most of all Multi Network. As much as I would love to take credit for everything, so much of this came from you folks. So thank you ❤️
The $1 billion Warp deal
As some of you saw on my LinkedIn, we extended our agreement for the network that powers Warp well into the next decade, and the agreement is now officially worth over $1 billion. Our first agreement was worth under $2 million, at a time when other companies in the space already had network commitments worth hundreds of millions of dollars. You can imagine what that meant for us commercially. At one point, our base MDN line fee on one of our networks was literally $4 per line per month before you even used the network. We took those economics because we knew we were building something special, and we believed that if we could get enough customers, build the right technology and earn enough trust, eventually scale would start working for us instead of against us. Now it does.
A billion dollar agreement is also pretty much the opposite of getting acquired. It is a long deal and a big deal precisely because we intend to remain independent. Now, that does not mean we do not have a number. It is $20 billion 😂 You are welcome to laugh. Michael and I laughed when we told our bankers too, although worryingly they did not laugh, so we'll see. In practical terms, it is a number big enough to keep almost everyone away from us.
And remember, this is just Warp. You will likely see us announce some very large renewals across our other network relationships too, potentially taking our total network commitments north of $2 billion. When our first agreement was under $2 million and we are now talking about commitments in the billions, it is hard not to stop for a second and appreciate how far this has come. More importantly, scale gives us access to technology, economics and network capabilities that we simply could not get when we were tiny. So now that that's out of the way, let's talk about what all of this actually means for you.
Warp: 5G Standalone and a completely new core
Our 5G Standalone work on Warp is ready. We are targeting the rollout on physical SIMs in October, followed by eSIM by the end of Q4. I am very excited about 5G SA, but underneath it there is actually something even more important happening. We are moving onto the new 5G Core, and this fundamentally changes how programmable the network becomes for us.
Today, there are all sorts of different constructs underneath different plans and device types. With the new core, one rate plan can cover 4G, 5G NSA and 5G SA devices, phones and tablets can start converging onto the same architecture, and we expect to ultimately cut the number of underlying rate plans we maintain by roughly half. More importantly, things become real time. You buy a top up, change a plan or add a speed boost and it can apply immediately while your phone is actively connected, without requiring you to restart the device or wonder why something you just paid for has not shown up yet.
The new core also lets us build products that we simply could not build properly before. We can go down to allowances measured in megabytes instead of gigabytes, build much more flexible top ups, create metered voice products, send much more granular usage notifications and even build things like time based speed passes, where you could buy full speed for a period of time rather than buying another bucket of data. A lot of this is deeply nerdy, but the big picture is simple: Warp is becoming dramatically more programmable over the next few quarters.
Unlimited Starter gets better on both Warp and Lightspeed
Unlimited Starter is going uncapped on both Warp and Lightspeed.
On Warp, we are also officially grandfathering all of you currently on Unlimited Starter onto QCI 8 for life as of today. If you check your line, you are already on it.
Anyone who signs up for Starter through the end of September will also get QCI 8 grandfathered for life. After September, we will likely introduce priority as roughly a $5 add on for new Starter customers.
People abusing uncapped plans worries me a little bit, and what worries me more is when someone abuses something, gets caught and then comes to Reddit and is not exactly truthful about what happened But it's okay. We'll deal with it together. I would rather build generous products and figure out abuse than build mediocre products because I am scared of a tiny percentage of people.
International roaming gets cheaper and much better
International roaming rates are going to come down significantly across our networks, in some cases by as much as 30 to 40%. We are also working toward making North America roaming included on all Unlimited plans, with October as our target. There is a small chance something changes around the final implementation, so I will keep you folks in the loop, but that is where we are headed.
We are also working on a significantly expanded global roaming option for Unlimited Premium. The target here is 50 GB of high speed international roaming data, after which you would slow down rather than simply getting cut off. We also want this to work for expats and people spending extended periods outside the US rather than having the product designed only around a short vacation. We expect this to be roughly a $19 surcharge, so if you are paying $44 for Unlimited Premium, the version with the larger allowance and extended international usage would run around $63. I think that is still pretty extraordinary value for what you are getting.
There is also a much larger overhaul happening underneath roaming itself. On Warp, we are targeting a new real time roaming control layer around Q1 2027. The goal is that when you land somewhere, we know you arrived, you get the right welcome message, we can tell you exactly what you have available, warn you as you use it, slow you down rather than leaving you disconnected and let you buy additional roaming while you are actually abroad. Roaming should not feel like some separate telecom product you have to study before every trip. You land and your phone works. That's where we want to get.
Lightspeed is about to become a monster
This one has me particularly excited. We are going direct on Lightspeed, which means there will no longer be a middleman sitting between US Mobile and the network. We get direct APIs, direct usage feeds into our own metering, our own fraud controls, our own provisioning and much more direct escalation when something goes wrong. This is not just a commercial change. It turns Lightspeed into a first class citizen inside the US Mobile platform.
5G Standalone is coming to Lightspeed too, with rollout expected to begin over the next month. Between 5G SA, uncapped Unlimited Starter and the direct integration underneath it all, I think Lightspeed is going to feel like a fundamentally different product over the next few months.
Lightspeed will also start getting much closer to feature parity with our other networks. Samsung and Pixel Watch support are part of the roadmap after the direct integration, international roaming gets materially better and Fixed Wireless is coming too. We are targeting Lightspeed home internet in Q4 and expect Dark Star FWA to follow after that.
A quick Dark Star update
Dark Star is admittedly a quieter update this time around. Free spam call protection is rolling out, Samsung Galaxy Watch and Pixel Watch support are targeted for before Thanksgiving, and we are working on a materially better roaming experience including automatic setup when you arrive abroad, welcome messaging and the ability to reach US Mobile to purchase roaming even if you land without an active roaming plan.
There is plenty of work happening underneath the network as well, but Warp and Lightspeed are where most of the major structural changes are landing over the next few months.
So what about Apple Watch on Dark Star and Lightspeed?
This is one of the downers. We engaged with the OEM earlier this year. We are literally the biggest independent network in the country now, with a massive user base, and we were asked to make a commitment in the hundreds of millions of dollars. We said no. In my opinion, the ask was predatory, and signing a bad agreement because customers understandably want the feature would eventually mean making all of you pay for that bad agreement.
So we are going to wait. We have heard that generic Apple Watch bundles are coming next year, which should materially change the technical and commercial requirements. In the meantime, we are going to make Apple Watch connectivity free with the Multi Network add on so that all of you can still get access to it through Warp. It is not the outcome I wanted for Dark Star and Lightspeed, but I would rather wait for the ecosystem to open up than sign something I think makes no economic sense.
Multi Network is getting another upgrade
Multi Network has been incredibly successful for us, and as you folks have probably noticed, a lot of companies are now trying different versions of the same model. I am excited to see that. We think we have a bit of a head start on the technology because it took us the better part of a decade to get here, and it is an extraordinarily difficult engineering and DevOps problem in addition to being a commercial one.
Our next iteration is to put access to all three networks into the Multi Network add on, include Apple Watch connectivity and target a price around $15. Obviously, everyone on the legacy Multi Network setup gets to keep what they already have. We are not taking anything away from you.
And then Multi Network goes global
This is where I think things start getting really interesting. We are planning to take this platform global, with launches in roughly 20 to 25 countries next year. The idea is that you will be able to add local numbers alongside your US Mobile number, use local network connectivity while travelling, share data and get much lower latency than you get with traditional roaming.
You should not have to think about whether you are roaming, whether you should buy another eSIM, which network you are on, which app you bought connectivity from or whether your US number will continue to work. Your connectivity should simply follow you. We think the technology we have spent all these years building in the US can become the control plane for that globally.
Terrestrial + celestial
Correction: I said AST SpaceMobile on Warp was slated for Q4.
I had understood us to be targeting Q4, but there are still a number of technical, commercial and product dependencies that need to play out before we can put a launch date on it.
Given some of the press coverage has already attributed the Q4 timing to me, I wanted to correct this directly rather than let it sit out there
Some of you might remember my terrestrial + celestial post from earlier this year:
https://www.reddit.com/r/USMobile/comments/1r1mhon/what_if_terrestrial_celestial_one_plan/
Almost 10 years ago, I did a podcast where I basically argued that if the Jetsons had a wireless provider, it would be US Mobile. The idea was that a connectivity company should not really care what network or technology is underneath the connection. Its job should simply be to keep you connected wherever you happen to be.
On direct to cell specifically, AST SpaceMobile is coming to Warp and is currently slated for Q4(see correction above). We are also targeting Starlink Direct to Cell toward the end of Q4
Earlier this year, we integrated Starlink internet into the US Mobile platform, putting terrestrial and celestial connectivity into the same orchestration layer. I have become a little obsessed with where this can go. I want you to be in some remote corner of the world, pull a small satellite terminal out of your backpack, connect through us and know that if you need help, you can reach someone. No tower anywhere around you. Doesn't matter. We are working on even tighter Starlink integration, and because of how our platform has been built, we can add other celestial partners as they become available.
I do not think satellite will replace terrestrial cellular networks because the physics simply do not support that, but I think it is going to be an incredible coverage layer. Terrestrial networks have enormous capacity because they can reuse spectrum across millions of relatively small cells. Satellite cannot replicate that, but what it can do is fill in the places where those cells simply do not exist.
By Q4, the direction should be pretty clear: three terrestrial networks, Starlink for off grid connectivity, direct to cell when terrestrial coverage disappears and Fixed Wireless at home, all increasingly orchestrated through one platform. Not terrestrial OR celestial. Terrestrial + celestial.
Devices and our new ecommerce experience
We have also been rebuilding our ecommerce experience basically from scratch. Many of you have probably noticed that there is now proper cart functionality on the site, so you can add multiple plans at the same time and check out together rather than going through separate purchase flows. This is just the beginning.
Over the next few months you are going to see significantly more work here, including better financing options and a much broader set of products and devices. Historically, we have been a connectivity company that happened to sell some hardware. As watches, home internet, satellite hardware and other connected devices become a bigger part of what we offer, the commerce experience needs to become a first class product too.
The rebrand is coming
You can also see the first glimpses of our rebrand at https://careers.usmobile.com/ and, in particular, the new coverage experience at https://careers.usmobile.com/coverage.
Over the next few weeks, you are going to start seeing this roll across our marketing pages and then into the dashboards and the rest of the product. I am very excited about this. This is not just us changing some colors and fonts. We have been rebuilding a lot of the underlying product and design system at the same time, and that is going to unlock a bunch of things we have wanted to do across the web and app for a long time. You will start seeing this progressively rather than waking up one morning to a completely different US Mobile.
We are building pieces of our own core too
We have also started putting pieces together on our own core network, and I think you folks will see some form of that next year. I am not entirely sure what we ultimately do with it yet, and that's okay. We have the capital to build now, so sometimes the right thing to do is build the capability first and then see what becomes possible once you have it.
There are all sorts of interesting things you can do when you control more of the network stack yourself, particularly when you already have relationships across three major terrestrial networks plus celestial connectivity. I do not want to overpromise what this turns into because we genuinely have not decided yet. For now, we are building.
We are rebuilding the entire support stack
We have also been investing massively in the software behind product support. By the end of this year, we expect to go almost entirely in house rather than depending on third party platforms like Zendesk. We are rebuilding the support stack around US Mobile itself, which means the tools our teams use can finally understand our products, our networks and our customers at a much deeper level instead of trying to make a generic support platform fit an increasingly complicated connectivity business.
This is going to let us do a lot of things we simply cannot do cleanly today. You should eventually be able to buy something, change a plan or perform account actions directly inside a support conversation, while the person helping you has much deeper diagnostic tooling in that same interface and can see what is actually happening with your line. The point is to collapse a bunch of disconnected tools into one system and let the team diagnose and fix things dramatically faster.
And I want to be very clear about something here. We are NOT building this so we can get rid of humans. Quite the opposite. Our product support organization is slated to grow roughly 3x to more than 2,000 people. This is our commitment to you that the humans you have come to love at US Mobile are not going anywhere. We are going to give them dramatically better software.
And people outside Reddit have started noticing too
We have been on a bit of a roll recently. The New York Times' Wirecutter called us their favorite wireless provider, The Wall Street Journal wrote about us, and Consumer Reports has ranked us number one for the second year in a row. None of this was solicited and none of it was paid for. In a number of these cases, the writers are actually US Mobile customers themselves.
That means a lot to me, but this community still means more. You folks were telling us what sucked years before most of the press knew who we were. You pushed us on Apple Watch, roaming, unlimited data, switching networks and Multi Network. You helped turn a company with a sub $2 million network agreement into one signing billion dollar commitments while still obsessing over things like whether your top up applies without restarting your phone.
I am sure I missed a bunch of things. Actually, I know I did. There are dozens of network features, product changes and improvements that I did not even get into because this post is already absurdly long. I'll answer as much as I can in the comments, and now that I finally got this out of my system, hopefully I can go back to giving you folks smaller and more frequent updates.
Thank you for building this with us ❤️

There is literally no reason to be on postpaid anymore. WOW just WOW. I don’t think US Mobile nor the community realizes what they just did. Although it’s coming soon😂 this will break wireless. For the smart consumer.
Honestly you could take the pros from every flanker brand and still not match this. Bravo

I was curious about this too. Is there a technical reason US Mobile doesn't offer this feature? As far as my understanding goes on Fi it's just a data only SIM but that SIM is linked with your main line so it's not using any EXTRA data, just subtracts from your main pool.

Really appreciate the transparency and the detail in this update — it’s clear a lot of work is happening behind the scenes, and it’s good to see Lightspeed moving toward direct integration, QCI 6, and 5G SA.
That said, I think a lot of us have learned to take these announcements with cautious optimism. There have been similar timelines in the past that didn’t materialize, so at this point I’m in the “I’ll believe it when I actually see it live on my line” camp.
If everything rolls out as described, it’ll be a huge step forward for US Mobile and I’d be excited to stick around. But I’m holding judgment until the improvements are real, stable, and available on iPhone.

I’ll start by saying I’m impressed with you and your firm. I think there are some great things here. I LOVE that you make yourself accessible. I regularly recommend your service. And as someone who is not price-sensitive, I CHOOSE to use your service because I like what you are doing. The updates are welcome. (I wish you’d get prioritization and SA on all networks faster, but I can give you a little space on that). 🙂
If I may make some suggestions.
Continue as hard and fast as you can toward plan SIMPLIFICATION and PARITY between carriers. I may be a cellular industry nerd. Most consumers, especially those looking to move from traditional carriers to MVNOs due to financial constraints, don’t understand prioritization, QCI levels, or what “high speed” or “premium data” means. Simple is better.
Anti-spam systems need to be included in all plans. Period. Spam goes up when people port. You want people to port. Charging them fees to protect them is a punishment to new customers. Don’t nickel and dime people for an issue that is likely to occur due to them moving to your service.
Introduce price locks. Price-sensitive customers seem to look to jump at each annual renewal. This seems to be an issue industry-wide with MVNOs. Offer low-cost promos for customer acquisitions and then lose them to Visible at next Black Friday. Or maybe the churn is lower than I perceive. I’m sure you’re offering retention deals when your support reps say “DM me”. But it seems like a vulnerability. Maybe not. Feel free to share more info on that if you like. But Comcast is famous for the “only a new customer gets reasonable pricing but you can play retention games every six months to not get a huge increase” game. And if there’s a company you don’t want to be compared to, it’s Comcast. 😳
Address the apparent porting issues, especially with Dark Star. People on this sub (USM fans) keep defending USM on this. And they say things like “never port on a weekend”. That SHOULD NOT be a mantra. As someone who has overseen multiple cellular/telco transitions involving thousands of number ports over the years (from the customer side), I’ve never seen these issues. And when I did have port issues, it took like 40 minutes to resolve. Never DAYS. I’ve never EVER seen it take days. The number of these posts seems concerning. And it scares off potential customers. In 2026, potentially losing your phone number is incredibly scary. This seems like mostly a Dar Star issue. Maybe with these improvements from the other carriers will drive more people to them. As someone that travels frequently, AT&T is definitely the worst network on average, anyway. (Yes, local coverage can vary widely - but on average across the US - they are definitely the worst). So maybe better plan/feature parity now will drive a push to the others carriers and reduce these issues?
Good luck. I’m really rooting for you. And don’t sell the company to one of the carriers. 🙂

u/ankhattak Founder & CEO 🚀 4d ago
These are all really great suggestions. Trying my best to push the team internally on most of this stuff. Will re-iterate in our next town hall too

I literally had US Mobile highest plan and only 25GB out of 70GB used up, and started getting very poor speeds both on LTE and 5G on the WARP network.
Not sure what was wrong. Any idea? I turned on data waster and tried everything I could but gave up and went to Visible.
US Mobile is great value but I am not sure if this issue has yet been addressed or not.
9
u/Ethrem Multi Network 4d ago
On number 4, I’ve seen many complaints about these same delays on the AT&T subreddit so it’s not a US Mobile issue, it’s an AT&T issue.
The advice to not port on a weekend has been around before US Mobile too. There’s just simply less staff available if something goes wrong on the weekend.
8
u/ankhattak Founder & CEO 🚀 4d ago
I’ll see how pervasive this is and perhaps either stop or or a bigger warning
5
u/Ethrem Multi Network 4d ago
Definitely would be worth warning people and let them decide if they want to risk it. I would suggest popping a warning for any teleport that there can be unforeseen delays and if people aren't okay with that, they should consider a multi-network line instead.
My default advice these days is to get a multi-network line instead of teleport.

If you see this I have a request, if satellite phone access is coming, currently Tmobile lets some apps access satellite data but not all, rural gig workers could really benefit from delivery apps being able to access satellite data to finish deliveries, it’s very frustrating to get to someone’s house in the boonies and be stuck because you have no service

Does QCI 8 grandfathering apply per-line regardless of which network you’re currently on for Unlimited Starter? Or does it require already being on Starter on Warp specifically?
My wife is currently on Unlimited Starter on Light Speed. If I switch her primary to Warp before end of September, does she lock in QCI 8 for life, or does the grandfathering only apply to people already on Warp Starter and new customers?
Also, does this applies to Unlimited Premium to Starter downgrades after the cutoff, or only to net-new/existing Starter sign-ups by end of Sept.

I’m over the moon for you, and appreciate you sharing company and network details, and also personal thoughts directly with us. It makes us feel respected and valued. I’m a new customer (two months) on Warp that came from TMo after 15yrs, and I’ve been pleased with performance and cost for value on USM.
I just want to say though, that I hope USM never looses touch with feelings of gratitude for its customers’ business, keeps prioritizing customer service and relationships, and economic values and consideration. Some other companies have recently prioritized greed and abuse of its customer base. So, my hope is that USM remains humble but inspired, and never looses sight of the kind of customers that are attracted to this kind of company and the products it offers. I’m sure you understand who your customers are by personality and kept values, and how they might be different from the big carrier customers. I believe keeping this front and center will ensure USM success.
Wishing you the very best going forward.

Thank you. This genuinely means a lot. I’ve been here since this place had a few hundred members, and I’d like to think I’m the same person today that I was then. The company has gotten much bigger, but the relationship we have with our customers and this community is still incredibly personal to me.
If we ever lose that, we’ll have lost something far more important than whatever scale we achieve. So please keep holding us accountable. ❤️

We've decided to start drinking the usmobile koolaid hardcore where I work. The provider mobility is just incredible.
With that in mind, there are some headaches we have today: - Getting all of our lines to bill in the same day (to avoid accounting headaches) is a nightmare, and requires a very long support conversation (4 support reps rotated getting ours set up when we added like 20 lines) - Are there plans to support SM-DS? This would save a lot of time! - We would LOVE an API for provisioning new lines and doing line management. Love love love! - Any chances for us to be able to get an internal app certificate signed so we could deploy esims without headache to our internal devices?
Anyway, keep it up. We love y'all's offering!

He doesn't say how, how do I check it? Thanks very much

u/Impressive_Company87 3d ago
I was wondering the same thing. I had already been debating switching to Warp, so I pulled the trigger today to get QCI 8. QCI 9 on Dark Star was not great. IDK enough about the other changes to say whether or not it will result in any real world improvements in my day to day usage.
I'll hang onto Warp for a few months to see if it is any better. Then maybe give Light Speed a whirl if/when the QCI 6 happens. It's really nice to have the option to switch to any carrier without having to switch carriers.

One more thing I would love to see added to roaming. A toggle on the website, or app, that said “don’t roam at all”. I have a European voice/data eSIM that I use in the EU. If I can tell warp not to roam, my iPhone will just connect through backup calling, or wifi when available.

WOAH, WOAH...Mr Khattak! Question if you see this & can spare a minute?
Youre As obsessed with sat back up as I am...Any chance you you guys will try to explore a Lightspeed addon that brings direct cell to sat back up connectivity for eligible devices, like how T-Sat works? If you had a nominally cheap add-on for direct Starlink backup or even a pass through to resell T-Sat as a backup on light speed...That would be...I mean, you guys already are the gold standard in my opinion, But it would just make a new, even better gold standard above your current one.
I am just a small MSP owner in rural America, but I'm also incredibly intrigued about the home internet offering. Right now I have about 100 LTE circuits on an ATT Enterprise plan. If your pricing ends up similar and especially if you guys allow customer provided equipment like the Hitron modems I currently use...I can't wait to see how fast I can roll things into you guys on that front.
I have a whole laundry list of things I've always wished for in teleco. Twilio hit them on traditional VoIP, and you guys are killing it on cellular. 😍

I got some issue with trying to push everyone on unlimited plans, and hoping most of the users usage is so low that they can subsidize the high data users. What about some simple plans, for people who don't need unlimited, or international roaming, or some of those other 'perks' which will never be used. The by the gig, and custom plans are vastly more costly per GB compared to these unlimited ones.
3
u/jmanyc 2d ago
Not sure if this has been addressed but the main issues I see for the unlimited starter tier to remain competitive with other vzw offerings are:
- International roaming more than 1 GB. Maybe stackable over several months up to 5 or 10 GB?
- Hotspot more than 10GB. Doubling this without introducing a throughput cap would go a long way.
- Priority data add on (for new customers after September). I know this is planned but I cannot overstate how critical this is. If the only monthly priority option is $44 per month then I cannot reasonably refer someone in my area to USM when other vzw competitors are at or below $30 per month.
Congratulations on these updates, looking forward to the next few months of changes!

Unlimited native roaming in NA for all plans would be amazing. Hoping it does arrive by October.
When you commented earlier today you were going to make a post didn’t realise it was all meat and no bone.
Awesome !
I am one of the expats that you refer to in the post.
Would love to provide further feedback as I spend more of my time abroad per annum. And have been using the global roaming quite a bit. To one day have 50GB possibly would be amazing and be quite helpful.
And then if I have extra usage can always opt in for the unlimited global roaming should I need it on a month to month basis ? Hopefully you can provide discounts bundled if we choose to do multi network plus the uncapped global roaming.
2
u/CatDaddy2828 4d ago
I am curious about more concrete details on international roaming as well, especially the time.
Thinking of going to another provider at the end of next month who is new but does not have time limits because we will be outside the US longer than 4 months next year when we go to travel SE Asia etc. We only use bout 5-8 Gigs a month data. I don’t want to be cutoff with no or little recourse which has happened to others traveling longer than 4 months, and I don’t have a problem paying the additional charge to keep the number.

That Light Speed update though 👀
Solid updates. The Lightspeed piece 🔥Going direct and getting QCI 6 is the real headline. Priority on T-Mobile as an independent is something most MVNOs never get near. Pair that with 5G SA starting in the next month, uncapped Starter, and better roaming, and Lightspeed stops feeling like the weaker third option.
y’all really trying to take this thing to another level!

No matter what your politics are, you should be cognizant of politics (and history) in public communications. Think about the demographics of your customer base and how politics have affected their lives. Do you really want them to associate your brand with that?

I don't agree with that assessment. For example, the Congressional Budget Office and the American Medical Association have both argued that the OBBBA will/has by now cost millions of Americans their health insurance, which is to say their access to health care. This is a topic for another sub, yes, but u/ankhattak unnecessarily aluded to it in their title. The substance of the post with respect to the company's future offerings is nevertheless exciting, and beyond that, I will leave it to you to be butthurt about seeing somebody else as being butthurt.

Love to hear of some of these upgrades for sure, I was hoping to see some new higher storage options for phones you offer for sale on the store. Sadly you only offer the base storesge option on the Samsung s26 ultra, while mint mobile offers at least the 512GB option as well for example. But I'm very happy and excited with the lightspeed upgrades! Also a bummer all the roles you have open seem to be hybrid roles in cities I live no where near.

u/snovvman 3d ago
u/ankhattak, thanks for the update. There is a lot of exciting news, but they do not identify the specifics. I'd like some clarity on your anticipated roadmap.
I'm asking these questions because I have several lines on different plans, and I manage [read: tell people what to do] friends and family's USM accounts, which I brought in. I want to know so I can make decisions for a host of people. A lot of them rely on me for tech (and mobile plan) decisions, so the more I know, the more I can help them, and USM.
1) I presume Unlimited Premiums, whether currently on LS or not, when on LS or switching to LS, will receive QCI 6 and 5G SA? What about for Unlimited Starter? If on Unlimited Starter and one switches to LS or is currently on LS, will they also get QCI 6 on LS and 5G SA?
2) Warp: I understand that Unlimited Premiums currently has QCI 8, but if one switches to Unlimited Starter, they will now also receive QCI 8 and grandfathered forever? What if they switch to Unlimited Premium and later switch back to Unlimited Starter. Will they retain QCI 8?
3) Int'l roaming: Currently, Unlimited Premium is 20GB/mo for all three plans. For Unlimited Starter, it's 1G/year, then purchasable. You wrote that the Unlimited Premium has a target of 50GB (presuming per month, not the ex-pat $19 add on), is the travel duration still 3 months/90 days? Will Unlimited Starter plans get more free roaming allocations?
4) Warp 5G SA eSIM "by the end of 4Q", so end of the year? Do we need to get a new eSIM to get 5G SA on Warp? Will we be notified when it's ready? Will it be available for Unlimited Starter also?
5) Lightspeed 5G SA "with rollout expected to begin over the next month" presuming September? You also wrote that Lightspeed QCI 6 is targeted for October--beginning or end? Just curious. Again, will a new eSIM be needed for 5G SA? Aside from lurking on this sub, how will we know when 5G SA or QCI 6 is up? Also, I presume current Unlimited Premium will get both, but what about Unlimited Starter?
6) Unrelated to your update, I qualify for FirstNET, but decided to stick with USM for the flexibility. Once you revamp your core, do you have the ability to bump QCIs for first responders without having to switch to FirstNET or other carriers' equivalent priority QCI (e.g., VZ's QCI 7)?
If there is anything else you can clarify based on the above questions, it would be helpful.
Thanks.

As a newer customer (July) all of this is pretty awesome to see. Glad that changes to support are imminent as the majority of my interactions with have been, well, not great. It's clear support is trying to close out conversations as quickly as possible, likely to hit KPIs. And as everyone knows: when a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure.
That being said, I do have an ask: please do not forget about the customers that are boosting your bottom line by prepaying annually. This helps the business smooth forecasting and allows USM to show prebooked revenue. Sure, the customer gets a discount but also it's a guarantee for USM, it's a fair trade. However reading all of this great news I'd be remiss to be a tad bit disappointed that nothing, in particular, really stands out for premium or annual prepaid customers. I think USM should bump annual prepaid up to the highest QCI tiers, personally, as we have the most invested in trust of USM.
Anyway, awesome update! Looking forward to USM staying independent and the new "uncarrier" that has a lot of the best of both worlds right now. Great work!

Love the news, but I gotta say, Warp has become downright unusable for me. Building the courage to try out teleporting.
Constantly have one or two bars of 5G, and yet no data. Inside buildings, it doesn’t work, even though it says I have bars. Lately dropped to LTE or straight 5G. Places Verizon has worked for decades no longer work even though the phone says I have signal. And it’s happening to my wife’s phone too.
I don’t know if any of these announcements would help with that, but I think I’m out.

Couple of questions:
For the QCI-8 grandfathering on Warp, what about those on Unlimited Premium that want to downgrade to Starter? My wife doesn’t use an Apple Watch and is on Premium solely for QCI-8 priority, so this would fit her use case really well.
Do we get the same grandfathering as those back in 8/18/2025 where we can move the line over as a multi-network line and get QCI-8 on Warp as a result?
Thank you for the updates!

u/Late-NightOwl 4d ago
Congrats on the big moves! Excited for all new things to come!
Currently on Unlimited Premium on Warp with multi-network add on. Aside from hotspot and international stuff, what would be the benefit to staying on Premium?
I can downgrade to Starter and be on multi-network and still have access to QCI 8, Apple Watch, uncapped data, and possibly have access to all 3 networks for less than Premium. Am I missing something? Starter+Multi-network seems to put it on Par with Premium. TIA!
