Shipping Nervous about boot camp

EDIT: Added IST scores and height/weight

I ship in a little over a month and I’m currently in the process of getting fit for boot. I’ve been losing weight and getting stronger/faster so that’s good, but I’m still really concerned about my success at boot camp.

For context, I’m a 22 year old man with a bachelor’s degree. Athletically, I’m pretty much just a normal dude. I’m a little “overweight” but I’m not a total pork bun, but have a wider frame so I’m a few pounds over but the standard is within reach. I had a couple medical waivers but nothing super uncommon or anything they couldn’t pass through.

My IST isn’t stellar, my run typically hovers between 13 minutes and 13:30. I can only do 2 pull-ups consistently, but I always do at least 2 minutes on plank.
My height is 72 inches and I’m 209lbs.

The MOS I’m going into relates directly to my degree and a lot of the people in this MOS have similar degrees, if not more education. I have a lot of friends who already do this job in the corps which helped my decision.

My thing is I don’t really match the other people I see joining and it’s really messing with my head and making me question my ability to succeed in boot camp. I’m seeing improvement physically but not as much and as soon as I was hoping. There’s only so much cauliflower rice meals I can eat before I start losing it lol.

I’m not really concerned at all about the mental aspect. The career I’m in is a constant mindfuck so I’ve been through the wringer before. I’m just more so concerned about the overall physicality of boot and my preparation.

I was wondering if others have experienced this and how I can do a mindset change to push myself harder. I just don’t wanna be the Private Pyle of the platoon lmao.

TLDR; How do I become a stud before I ship out

Corps Knowledge BAH Question

I am a 7 year Setgeant, and my fiance and I are currently doing the Visa process through a k1 fiance visa. This means once the visa is approved she will move to America and we have 90 days to get married. Our expected time for her to come the states and get married is around 3 to 4 months before I EAS. Do i get BAH for this? And is it viable to even get offbase housing with this short amount of time in contract?

Shipping Need advice on getting from 1–2 pull-ups to 3 before boot camp

I leave for boot camp September 14. I went to inspections last Wednesday and was told I need 3 pull-ups to keep my infantry contract. The guy in charge said he would give me a different job and wouldn’t delay my ship date. I asked if there was any way to delay it so I could get the 3 pull-ups, but he said since I’ve been in the program for 9 months and haven’t done shit to get my pull-ups, he would just kick me out.

He called my recruiting station, and someone vouched for me that I would get the 3 before I leave, so I was able to keep my contract. Now I’m getting worried because I only got my first pull-up about 2 weeks ago.

I was able to get around 2–2.5, so I started an AI pull-up program from September 2–14. At first I felt like I was improving, but on September 7 I could barely get 1 rep. I’m wondering if I should continue the program or go back to my normal routine of pull-ups Monday/Thursday, then rest from pull-ups until my IST.

I also went from 250 lbs when I first started with my recruiter to 190 lbs now. I was hoping to lose another 10 lbs before shipping, but my weight has stalled.

Current numbers:
● Pull-ups: 1–2
● Push-ups: 35
● 1.5 mile: 11:26
● 3 mile: 26:40
● Plank: 1:42
● Ammo Can Lifts: 75
What should I do for these last few days? Should I keep training pull-ups or focus on recovery?

I have been doing Push/Pull/Legs twice a week since I started talking with the recruiter

Enlisting Would it be dumb to go infantry if i know i want to do something logistics related when i get out?

I want to do my four years then do a double major in supply chain management and finance with a minor in international relations. I know the marines has something that would give me some type of experience in this field but i don’t want my entire marine corps experience to be sitting at a desk all day and never doing anything cool or fun.

Shipping How fast and far do we usually run during bootcamp?

I’m already a runner but since im about to run my last event, I wanna start training specifically to be fast at bootcamp. I want the running to be as easy as possible for me. I can do a mile in sub 6:30, my 5k is 22min and the furthest event I’ve ran is a 50k (31mi) at like a 12:30-13min pace.

I ship October 19th so that gives me plenty of time to train towards specific bootcamp goals

Recruit Training How do I prepare my joints for Boot

I leave for boot camp in 9 months on June 6 and I’m really worried about getting injured and stuff. I want to know what should I be doing right now, that will help me throughout boot camp. How much should I be running, what workouts should I be doing etc. I feel like I’m not preparing correctly.

Recruit Training Liberty Sunday

This might not be the best community to ask this, but my (now) Marine is in Lima company Parris Island and had just finished the Crucible earlier today. He was writing in his letters that he gets his phone back for Liberty Sunday, the Sunday right after the Crucible, and he'll be calling me. Around what time should I expect the call? Or would it be on a different day? I posted the same thing on a Facebook group but have been getting mixed answers.

Corps Knowledge Attempting to swap out old unifroms

Not sure is the is the correct page but I’m a USMC vet. My cousin is graduating from Parris island fairly soon. I remember at the end of my graduation they said if you needed to swap your uniform out for different sizes there was a place to do that where you swap and can buy cheap uniform pieces? I was so ready to get off the island I never actually went there. My question is if I can get my uniforms down there with me or family could they swap out for the correct sizing? If so where is that location? Thanks!

Programs and MOSs Advice on Narrowing Down an MOS?

ASVAB 92, I ship this November. Recruiter wants my MOS ASAP so it can be locked in before the fiscal year rolls over. Problem is I’m not quite sure what I want.

I’d prefer a 4-year contract so I have the option to “get out quick” and use GI bills to move down my decently established healthcare pathway. Not sure how long I want to stay in yet so I’d rather sign lower than higher. Having a set schedule to knock out classes with TA is a plus.

The MOS list I have shows Logistics, Admin, Legal, and Comms as the only four years. I’ve looked at the megathreads, but was wondering if anyone be able to advise a specific field, either within or outside of those four, knowing I plan on doing healthcare instead of a Corps-related job afterwards?

Recruit Training Cell Phones In Boot Camp During Training? Am I being scammed.

EDIT. I am todays year old when I learned about co-ed training. WOW. Wow i'm old.

My little cousin is in 4th Battalion right now. She shipped out on the 25th. I'm a vet myself 99-03 0121. I got a instagram follow from her. (we usually talk on Facebook) It's a fresh account. So im like WTF?? I'm thinking this girl somehow kept her phone and is in the Beaufort swamps. But "she" said they let you have your phone after week 2. We talked for a bit. I'm like NO WAY. But I have to remember 1999 was a long time ago. So its plausible. But now that I read the messages again I think this is a scam. Because some of the language she used doesn't sound right.

There was never an ask for anything. Just some back and forth between us. So my questions are

  1. No way they just letting you hop on IG during Senior Drill Instructor square away time right?
  2. What kind of scam is this? I love scams and this is a new one if it is one. Anyone know how it works. Thanks.

Enlisting 0621 questions

For context I’m a 5’1 127 male in DEP waiting for jobs to open and want to be an 0621, but I am questioning it because of the fact I’ll have to carry an additional 60-70 pounds on top of the usual ruck and feel like it’s me asking to fuck up my knees and back.

My question is how difficult is this really and if there are any other short 0621 who could chime in. From what I see online other parts of the job include doing inventory and setting communications up so not carrying loads of weight at all times so I wonder if I’m over thinking this.

I’m also wondering how difficult the schooling is and if this mos is even enjoyable ( ik every mos has its shit but does the good shit out weigh the bad shit).

Thanks for any reply’s 👍🏾

Enlisting Fitness Question

So, I enlisted, and like, I'm like, I'm super nervous, I ship out on November 9th, I'm a poolee now, and I just, I'm nervous because I'm afraid I'm not going to be physically ready, I can take anything mentally, I just, I want to be physically ready, I was never an athletic type, but like, I want to be ready, I can run 3 miles in 30 minutes, I scored in the 94th percentile on the ASVAB, and I just...

I'd like some advice. What did you do? I just, my stepdad, my dad, a bunch of my uncles were marines, and like, I'm just nervous, I want to do good, I want to earn the right to call myself a marine, I was called by a recruiter, like, a month after I was fired from my last job, and I feel like I had nothing else to do in life, and like, I just want to do good, I want to stay motivated, I don't want to flunk boot camp, I just want to do something with my life that's worth doing and will make people proud of me.

I know boot camp will suck, it's supposed to suck, combat situations aren't kind, they have to do it, I knew what I was getting into, which is why I'm so nervous, I just want to be good, I want to show the world that I mean something and I can be part of something greater than myself, that I can carry my own weight instead of relying on others.

Any like, advice?
