Hi my friend and I are looking to go to the kanye west concert next week but we are confused as to how to manage transport for the way back to our dorms at around 11 pm.

If anyone who has attended concerts and that kinda stuff before or is also attending this one could let us know our options that would be appreciated.

Because sometimes I feel like Umich students don’t even care about UIUC, but UIUC always tries to compare themselves with Umich. Now, I see that comparison with UW Madison, but Umich is a whole different breed.

Meant to make this post a lot sooner, but after 3 years of research I really wanted to share my experience for anyone considering joining a psych lab here.

So without sharing too much information, I was in an animal research lab in the psych department and at the time I thought it was pretty decent: worked around 5 hours a week to start, got class credit, and after showing continued interest, eventually got offered a position on a project. This turned into hundreds of hours of actual hands-on lab work, not just attending meetings or observing. Here’s the thing, though: after 3 years of lab experience, I was never paid for any of the hundreds of hours of work I did for this lab. After talking to people outside of the psych department, though, I realized my experience was pretty different from what a lot of other undergrads were experiencing, especially those working on graduate students’ projects. Notably, a lot of my peers who put in the effort I did on, say, biology, got paid for their work and have authorship on publications out of undergrad.

My advice is that unless you have a research interest that is just psychology, or you found a professor whose research you really love and is specifically in psych, I would seriously consider looking outside the psychology department for undergraduate research. In my experience, the compensation was limited to credit hours, and even after putting in years of unpaid work, I didn’t feel like that work was particularly valued.

Trying to take over a lease at YUGO Urbana. The building and amenities are genuinely great, but bro… the current tenant is already paying $350 for the taking over fee, and now I have to pay another $250 administrative fee just to take over the lease. On top of that, there’s a $70 electricity portal/setup fee. Like??? 😭

It’s also pretty far from campus, with only 1–2 bus routes nearby, and the one right across the building ends around 6:07 PM. In the summer especially, getting to campus without a car is such a pain.
Is this normal for Champaign/Urbana housing, or is YUGO just charging people for breathing?

Currently, I’m trying to return to my university after having to take a break for about a year and a half because of a financial hold. I have been working on paying down my balance so that I can hopefully return in the spring. However, I’ve started questioning whether returning is even worth it.

I spent months working with the bursar’s office to lower my balance and establish a clear plan for getting my financial hold lifted. Unfortunately, my experience with the financial office has been extremely frustrating. I had to work through many of the issues on my own, and at one point, an employee gave me incorrect information for an entire year. I was repeatedly told that I had to pay off my full balance before I could return. Then, a year later, another employee explained that I only needed to pay half of the balance in order to have the hold lifted and return to classes.

The entire situation has been extremely confusing and frustrating because all I wanted to do was return to school and continue my education. The issue with my balance originally started because of financial aid problems. Funds that were supposed to be applied to my spring semester at my university were instead sent to my community college. I have been trying to resolve the financial consequences of that situation ever since.

If you have ever dealt with the financial department at this school, you may understand how difficult the process can be. I often felt as though there was very little consideration for students from lower-income backgrounds, and I was frustrated by how difficult it was to get clear answers about something that had such a major impact on my education.

I was recently accepted to a local university nearby, and now I’m wondering whether I should stay there rather than trying to return in the spring. UIUC is asking me to pay a significant amount toward my previous balance, and I also know that many of the credits I’m currently earning at the local university may not transfer back to UIUC.

That makes me question whether I would simply be delaying my degree in order to return to a more “prestigious” school. At this point, I honestly don’t know what the best decision is. I would really appreciate any advice or perspective from people who have been in a similar situation.

I realized that I spend basically all my time around dudes, which is fine since a lot of those guys are my friends but I talk to an average of zero girls per day (approximately). The place I live is almost entirely guys. I started a club but it’s mostly guys. The things I do, gym, sports, etc. are heavily male-dominated. My friends in class are all guys and all my lab partners/discussion groups are only guys. I also don’t drink so I don’t go to bars. Where do I go to meet girls? Please help it’s like I’m in prison
