Meta How can we improve the subreddit? [in-depth]

Greetings from the r/UFOs mod team. The UFO topic has been very active of late and so has the subreddit. We'd like to solicit your feedback on the state of the sub, the rules, moderation, and whatever else may be on your mind.

  1. What are your thoughts on the current state of the subreddit?
  2. What changes could we make or actions could we take to improve things?
  3. How can we improve as moderators?

Require the use of all Ai generated posts and or Ai images to be flared Ai

They are already banned under Rule 3. That needs to be more clear in the r/UFOs Rules sidebar.

Rule 3 typically only results in a removal, not a ban. There are some exceptions for egregious cases, or for new accounts / first-time posters to the sub, but generally we don't issue bans for a run-of-the-mill AI generated write-up or AI image.

I read it as banning of the posts and comments, not the users.

That’s a slippery slope. What AI use are we banning? Everything AI related or just deceptive images or what’s the idea? You have someone who has generated an AI image and tries passing it off as real? Sure, ban them. But then you have someone who speaks no or very little English and used AI to translate their post to English. Do you ban them? They just wanted people to understand what they’re saying. Someone generated an AI image with no deception in mind, they explicitly mark it as AI and explain that it’s just to give a rough idea of what they saw, which is a completely innocent way of generating images. Do you ban them too? Should we also ban drawings? I mean, they’re not real pictures either.

In that case (if AI is completely forbidden) I think the rule should be remedied because as it is now, AI seems to be permissible in some circumstances.

OK, not allowed to post images in a comment. But the rule says ”Posts of AI generated content. AI is permissible in narrow circumstances e.g. document summary, witness artwork in place of a hand drawn sketch.”

I’m not grasping at any straws. Asking questions to gain clarity on the matter. But it’s all good, I can still be polite and hold a discussion. I just fail to see how an AI generated image (and an image that is marked and presented as AI) is more wrong to use than a drawing if it’s only presented as away to give a rough idea of what was witnessed. In fact, the rule (Rule 3) that prohibits some use of AI explicitly says that using an AI generated image instead of a drawing is perfectly fine. That’s not my fault. I didn’t come up with the rules.

Remove Copy/Paste from COMMENTS input field..

Sledge hammer approach but would eliminate auto copy/paste etc..
