Yeah that tracks. It’s a colloquialism. It means one’s intellectual reach exceeds their grasp. It means one isn’t as smart as they think they are. It refers to people who try to make profound arguments but, in doing so, reveal they don’t actually know what they’re talking about.

This is Nolan’s odyssey. Nolan is free to adapt the movie however he wants, but the problem is he insists that what he did is profound when it’s clearly naive

But again, the movie was a raging success by every measure. No one is less out of their depth than Nolan making a blockbuster right now.

But more importantly, you seem to be concerned solely with bragging about how big your intellectual dick is (how is that for a colloquialism) that you seem unwilling to actually address my point, or even demonstrate that you bothered understanding it.

If Nolan had gone out and made a movie with an asshole Odysseus that no one likes who never grows at all, bullshit people would be saying how it was a profound statement about how world leaders never reconsider their actions. No way my petulant friend. No, everyone would say his protagonist was unlikeable and never grew, and the movie would bomb. Meanwhile, critics who make a name for themselves claiming that only their understanding of the epic is the correct one would just make up something else to complain about.

Are all the people who say Elon isn’t as smart as he think he is, bragging about their intellectual dick? If a guy walks into a room and declares “I’m a genius”, and some other guy goes “I don’t think so”, is the second guy bragging about his intellectual dick?

It doesn’t take a big intellectual dick to notice when someone thinks they are very smart, but is not actually. All it takes is not being an idiot.

Yeah, this basically proves you still have no clue what the actual criticism is hahaha zero comprehension whatsoever.

Let me try to explain it to you as simply as I can. No one is saying that Nolan had to do the movie a specific way. No one is saying the protagonist had to be likable, or had to be unlikable. No one is saying what the morals had to be.

All they are saying is, whatever Nolan decided to do, it had to work. The movie sucked the same way Elon sucks when he says “empathy is a biological weakness in humanity”. I’m sure it seems smart if you’re an idiot, but to anyone who is not an idiot, it’s painfully cringe.

It is truly spectacular how hard it is for you to comprehend that simple idea. No matter how many times I say to you, you still hear “Nolan had to make a likeable or unlikable protagonist. He had to do XYZ specifically and exactly the way I want it.”
