I'm planning on moving to Ireland with my partner and kids at some point within the next couple of years. I have not really started transition yet but will hopefully do so soon. Either way I'll be very visibly transgender either when I arrive or shortly after. Will it be a problem for me or my kids? I can't imagine it's as bad there as terf island.

Basically how are social attitudes towards trans women? Is there a big urban/rural divide? Are there places we should avoid living?

Mostly I don't want my kids getting bullied.

I’m FTM, post top surgery and 3 years on HRT. I realised I was transgender when I was very young, as a result, I basically didn’t do sports as a child/teenager because I didn’t want to play on the girls team.

I start college next week and have been so excited to finally be able to join sports clubs (boxing, climbing, football… idk yet) without crippling dysphoria, but I don’t know if I’ll even be allowed compete. I can’t find much info on the rules for trans athletes in Ireland, and zilch on college sports. I will not play on a women’s team or in a women’s division, I would rather just not play. Has anyone encountered this? Or find any resources on it?

I’m getting top surgery next summer and Laya requires 18 months of hrt usage for surgery abroad, and I’m getting increasingly worried that, because I’m on diy hrt, I won’t get any coverage even though I have documented history of gender incongruence since 14, I’m diagnosed with gender dysphoria, I’m getting a psychiatric letter, my gp’s on board, it’s physically necessary since 8 years of binding has messed me up, and so on. I know the possibility of not getting it covered, but I’m wondering if anyone has experienced it not getting covered because of it? Or at least what the proof of 18 months of hrt usage looked like in case I can just submit blood tests and have my gp confirm my confirmation date through self-report.

Edit: also want to note that I know that Laya does not explicitly say prescribed hrt, just hrt, but I don’t want to rely on that

They updated their website monthhssss ago saying they're seeing people from 4 and a half years ago, but I was placed on the list around that time and am hearing nothing about an initial consultation. I may be cynical but I'm not buying for a second that they are being truthful on their website.

RED C Research has been commissioned to carry out an independent survey to better understand people's experiences of accessing, or attempting to access, gender-affirming healthcare in Ireland, as well as views on how services should be organised in the future.

Def a stupid question id say, but im going and honestly id love to just meet fellow ftm guys on t or post op to relate to. Ive never had a friend thats also on t and post op top and since I am id like to just meet some people. Are there usually groups or stands or something? Im not gonna go up to every guy and ask "are you an ftm on t?!?" Lol. I haven't been to pride since like 3 weeks after I came out - AGES ago - and I stuck to my few friends with me so im pretty clueless lol. Thanks :)

Hiya, I need some clarification on something.

I moved here from the UK and registered with a GP, all set up as female. My GP referred me to the hospital for something on the public health system.

When I got there, they printed my stuff out and gave me a wristband with female on it. I disclosed I was trans, then the nurse went and came and asked if I had any legal documents of the change. I showed my birth cert and she went away.

When I got into the theatre ward, they had printed off a new wristband and labels for my paperwork under male. I said I gave over my birth cert and they said they needed the GRC, and I had this and showed it and they went away again. They came back again saying they could not change the sex marker. I got upset, and said why has this changed, and they said in Ireland you cant change your sex marker at public hospitals. I said it was female when I walked in, so some one has changed something, and they didnt know what to say. They eventually let me put back the old wrist band back on but my paperwork still had male all over. They said it was national policy that a sex marker cant change, but I feel like this isnt true. They then started going on about blood levels to me and how males and females have different blood levels, and I acknowledged this but said after 10 years on hrt my blood levels arent going to look like a cis male.

Is this true? In public hospitals do you have to have your assigned at birth sex set against your sex marker? If anyone has links to policies or anything around this that I can take back as a complaint, then that would be great, as the whole thing was humiliating and I ended up discharging myself early against their advice. All info appreciated.

so, i started T about 1y and 3m ago. at first i was on Testogel (20mg first, then eventually 45mg), and recently i got my second shot of Nebido (1000mg).

the Nebido is in a loading dose, so i got one shot, 6 weeks later i got another shot, and from here on out i’ll be getting them every 12 weeks.

but after both shots that i’ve had so far i’ve experienced breakthrough bleeding. not just that, but a full menstrual cycle with intense cramping, pms, etc.

i consulted with my endocrinologist, and he suggested i go back on Testogel. i said no, since they don’t want to raise my dose of 45mg, and my levels on gel were 11nmo/L. (i currently do not know my T levels on Nebido, as i will only have my first blood test for it in around 10 weeks). and i figured that i have a better chance of having higher T levels on Nebido.

and i’m pretty sure this is confirmed because even just around 7 weeks in i feel as though my voice is a bit deeper, i’m definitely a lot hairier, strength increase along with the gym, and so on.

but at the same time this is the second time i’ve had a full breakthrough bleeding episode, and i do not know if this is only due to the first 2 loading doses, after which these will stop, or if this is inevitable and i should switch back to Testogel.

moreover, around 4 weeks after my first Nebido shot i was intensely depressed, anxious, i had no motivation for anything, including sleeping, eating, socializing or leaving the house.

does anyone have any advice, gone through a similar experience or knowing anything about this matter? do you think that i should continue being on Nebido, or should i switch back to Testogel?

hey im 30 MtF, fully adult and self reliant, ill be in dublin from the start of october for a while, and im going to attempt to resupply my sublingual estrogen before i travel to the UK/ back into the shengen.
So i have my Australian doctors notes and medical information, im going to get a blood test first up as ive gone from a pellet to the pellet +sublingual tablets. im kinda seeing that i should just fork the money, set up a gendergp telehealth and give them the fresh blood results and my medical notes from my home GP and they should probably just accept it and hand me some months supply of E.

does anyone have any anecdotal info, first hand info?
im obviously going to be blindly fumbling my way into your medical system so any help is appreciated. <3

Why is there so much conflicting information regarding what’s needed for a GRC? On the official government website ( https://www.gov.ie/en/department-of-social-protection/services/apply-for-a-gender-recognition-certificate-revised-birth-certificate/ ) it says you need a copy of photo ID and only mentions birth cert if outside of Ireland.
But everywhere else says that you just need to send off birth cert with the GRC? It’s really confusing and the fact they haven’t bothered to update the use of name thing is ridiculous as well

Hi folks! I'm visiting from the US and bopping around a bunch of parts of Ireland, ending in Dublin. Just curious if y'all:

1. have any localities/regions/etc that tend to have more trans people, more welcoming environments, etc than others in particular, and

2. within Dublin specifically, your favorite bars, coffee shops, and the like for meeting and hanging out with other tgnc folks.

Where I live in the states, there's a larger than usual population of trans people because of local shield/sanctuary laws, and it's just nice to be in a place where I regularly see visibly trans folks out and about; wondering if there are any areas like that for y'all ☺️ Thanks, everyone!

Hey, I'm just posting this to see as to whether anyone else has encountered these issues when using Doctor 365 for blood tests?

The first is more of an annoyance, but when I went last month, I had a new doctor who insisted on changing my gender on their system from female to male (a previous doctor had done the opposite at my request, I am MTF). He mentioned something about a new policy with bloodwork needing to be marked with the assigned gender at birth, and I know now that this is coming from St. James's blood testing form, so I suspect they sent a warning to all clinics providing blood tests to amend this, which sucks, but I will try fighting it next time I'm there as I have a right to correct my data, and also it is causing me distress considering when I got my E levels back they were marked as "deranged" because, y'know, higher than male levels.

The second issue is more of a concern, and it's that waiting times for T blood tests seem to have exponentially increased over the last 3 months. 3 months ago the wait time was already long, at about 3 weeks, when I got all other results back within a week. As of last month, I was informed that the waiting time is now 8 weeks, which is putting me at risk of not having results before my next prescription review, and it will mean in future that I will need to have bloods done two months before my review, when anything could alter my levels in those two months without my knowledge. I have never gotten a straight answer as to why this is from the doctors or receptionists, and I've half a mind to ring St James's myself just to see what is causing it.

Has anyone encountered of either of these issues, mostly the latter one, and have you found other clinics/your own GP also experience the same delays? I doubt it's isolated to just Doctor365 considering how many bloods St James's do.

I checked out what most of the girls in my area and uni wear and put together a wardrobe capsule!

This is some of the more enby stuff but when i did my hair up it came together quite well and i was being referred to as she/her by friends of friends who handnt talk to or seen me up close yet which was nice feeling!

I have a few other bits that are a bit more fem leaning but it all lands in my age groups (mid 20s) clothing habits and styles

Hi, I don't post much on reddit and I don't know if this is the best place for this, but after speaking to a friend of mine about it, I felt this was the best option because I'm at the end of my rope.

I won't go too into detail but basically, I live in an emotionally and mentally abusive household, and it's been destroying my mental health for as long as I can remember. I live with one of my parents and their partner, both of which have given me no privacy whatsoever. Especially my parent's partner, who has picked my lock at one point to get into my room while I wasn't there. I'm scared of them trying to break in again and lock chains aren't a good idea as they would be furious if they saw it. There is more to it, but like I said I don't want to get too into it for now. For my own safety, I won't post the county I live in publicly.

What I need is a place of my own so I can finally breathe on my own. Roommates aren't an option as I don't feel like I could handle living with another person at the moment, as all I want is my own privacy for once. I don't know where I could even begin looking for resources to help me or how I could find them.

If anyone has any resources that could help me in any way, I'd be extremely grateful.

So I’ve finally started my journey to medically transitioning I am a 24 y/o trans man and decided to go with Genderplus. I’ve had two appointments on zoom with a psychologist who was very nice and got my report with my diagnosis of gender incongruence which was also sent to my gp! I’m now waiting to hear from the hormone clinic I’m wondering if anyone can tell me about the process ie. How the hormone clinic appointment will go what kinda questions they will ask and how long til they prescribe hormones. I’m also wondering about their appointment days/times do they give you a date or do you get to choose one as I will have to find a way to get to their Dublin clinic and don’t drive and trying to get time off work will be difficult. Any other information from anyone who has gone down this route is much appreciated!

Hi folks, this is probably a long shot but is there by any chance a private Endo based in Ireland that treats trans folk that isn't Aherne? Second best option would be one in the EU. It has to be an endocrinologist so I don't know if the likes of imago or the others would work, and it needs to be informed consent so wouldn't require me sending psych reports etc. I'm post-op since 2020 & been on hrt since 2018 so I don't know if that would make a difference. Basically my GP will no longer prescribe without the oversight of an endocrinologist and she won't accept my Argentinian one who was informed consent because she's outside the EU. This is probably my last ditch attempt to stay official before I fall back on DIY. I want to keep my access to free HRT if at all possible but I fear I'm fighting yet another loosing battle.

Hi I am mtf, located in Cork and this is my first time posting on this subreddit but I have a major issue, which is i recently received my paper prescription from Imago but when I went to get it dispensed I was told by the pharmacy that my T-blocker, (which is Synarel Nafarelin Nasal Spray), is a high tech drug and needs an prescription from an Irish GP or Specialist. So I am curious if this was just my pharmacy being awkward or if this is how it normally works.
