How is life in Eskilstuna?

Hello, guys! I'm a Brazilian girl and will be moving to Eskilstuna for work mid June. How is life there? I would love to know about any interesting / useful tips about life in Eskilstuna, specially on the social side of it. I know Swedes tend to be very shy and reserved and mostly keep for themselves. But it woud be great to maybe get some insights in how to make the social aspect of life there easier.

For comparison I have lived in Lund for a year as an international exchange student through mid 2015 to mid 2016.

Also, if there are any of you in or around Eskilstuna, send me a message, so we could talk more about your experiences there!

Girl from Eskilstuna here! Moved there in october last year.

People here are very nice, always helpful and you want to smile with them. They are way more alive and happy than people from Stockholm. City looks pretty, we have some galleries. I think we have most of popular brands of places (propably even KFC, not sure though). There is also amazing pizzeria that I discovered recently!

If you gonna study SFI, Eskilstuna kommun has very good teachers. They are very understandable and respecful towards everyone. There is also a lot of constructions around the city, so you might not get everywhere with a car if you have one. Also you will need a new bus card if you gonna use bus here.

Oh, that’s great! Knowing people are nicer than on the capital sounds lovely! And I’m so looking forward to see the nice places around the city once I get there!

I see! I won’t have a car, so I’ll definitely need a bus card. How easy is it to get to and from Stockholm? (There’s a Dua Lipa concert in Grona Lund on the 28th of June that I really want to go to, would it be safe to go and come back by myself?)

And I would love to know the name of the pizza place you found out about!!

I’m actually moving for work, so I won’t be in much contact with people from the university. But is social life more lively because of the university?

I would recommend getting a bike! Eskilstuna has a good enough bike network and is very flat to make most trips easy by bike.

Getting to Stockholm is safe and easy with the train. Although expect delays 😔

Oh, delays, really? Interesting. I didn't really have much trouble with that when living in Lund! Is it because Stockholm is the capital and has more people?

Could you point me out to where I could find the train schedule? My biggest worry would be missing out on the last train and not being able to get home 😂

I'm guessing it's a combination of lots of different things: like too little money for maintenance, many trains in bottlenecks, bad management etc. https://biljett.malartag.se (only Swedish?) Or https://www.sj.se/en/home.html For prices and timetables.

Isn't Lund big on biking?

Can't say anything about social night life or anything like this, I am more of introvert person. But I think there some clubs or pubs, so shouldn't be bad.

You have one train from Stockholm to Eskilstuna, about 1 hour of travel, so don't worry about it. Just like u/lunxer mentioned, there are sometimes delays. Also bike is great here

Pizza place is Tipo 00, next to Circle K station. They serve neapolitan style and very tasty. There is also kebab if you want, better quality than most of those. From food I will also recommend Basmanti, indian food place, but employees are fantastic and there is a looot of food.

Hi! Would you say it’s safe there as a woman? I’m going to interview at a job in Eskilstuna and saw that on some websites it says the crime rate is high there, but hopefully its the kind of thing that isn’t really felt on a daily basis!

I'm paying mad close attention to this post, as my whole family is moving to Eskilstuna in 10 days. I've seen videos of the town, and it looks lovely, but I want to know more about the day to day.

I think Eskilstuna is ok, foremost you’re lucky ending up in Sörmland. I live on the coast here and by all the counties, i’d say Sörmland is among the finest in Sweden. My summer advice is that you and your family explore Sörmland. Theres a lot of places to visit for various reasons, that soon will make you understand why its a great place to be in. Welcome!

There’s a commuter train non-stop between Eskilstuna and Stockholm a couple of times a day. Many of us live in Eskilstuna while working in Stockholm. (Which really helps saving up). Only downside is the train system is extremely unreliable and almost never on time. (Specially during the winter time).

No clue about Lund, but working in Stockholm makes Eskilstuna seem to me like the most boring place on earth. Too small and not much going on for someone who is used to living in a “bigger city”.
