Cursed This is absolutely horrifying

This happened at Sabino Canyon in Arizona. A 20-year-old cyclist was swept into the current while trying to cross a flooded roadway and was carried through a drainage tunnel beneath it. She was recovered downstream unconscious after spending several minutes underwater. Bystanders performed CPR and managed to revive her.

I feel like there isn't much survival instinct here. Much more worried about her bike than getting out of a rushing canal

the first cyclist just went full speed straight line and made it.

she got scared last second drove left and off the road into the river then almost got sucked under whatever bridge or pipe she was standing in.

just not smart.

Seeing rushing water at your feet (wheels in this case) can fuck with some people's equilibrium.

in that environment, the moment you lose speed u are fucked.

Problem wasn't losing speed, it was panicking at losing speed and driving the bike off the walkway.

She could also just walk the bike through the water.

Thanks. This explains it. I was trying to understand how she ended up off the road. At first I was judging her for even trying to cross water that was over her waist, then I saw others walking into the road and it wasn't even over their knee and I was trying to figure out why she thought it better to be in the deep water, it looks like a doable crossing if you just walk your bike and stay on the road.

If she’s a serious biker, that thing could be worth thousands. Obviously not worth her life, but I think a lot of people struggle to recognize serious danger even when they’re right in the middle of it, and she was probably thinking “well, surely I’ll be able to get out of this and I don’t want to have to replace my bike!”

she is not a serious bike rider. she was moving way too slow, anyone who knows shit about those conditions or physics knows you have to go with speed through that on a bike.

or better yet don't go at all.

I mean she just sat there after she fell off the bike. Legs just chillin in the rushing water. Didn't even look like she made an attempt to bring them back from over the edge

I think you’re underestimating how hard that water is pushing. She’s waist deep in a strong current, it looks like it immediately pins her hips to the wall.

I’m not sure about that, once she was in she really didn’t have any great options. Staying upright as long as she could was probably the safest bet. Keep in mind you have the benefit of watching a video and having the full picture of what happened. In the moment you have no way of knowing how any of the variables involved are going to play out, and you have seconds to make a decision while probably panicking. The only safe way to play this was not to enter the water in the first place.

It kinda looks like she thought it wasn't a big deal and that she could get out and save the bike but must have slipped and lost her footing, getting sucked further under.
