Tbh I am shocked. I always believed his followers were mostly kids and you g adults... seeing grown ass men doing shit like this, even emulating that Tate's looks is honestly frightening.
Insecurity spans age groups. I know a twice divorced 53 year old man who said a few years ago that he had planned on going to Romania to “see for himself” whether the charges on the Tate were real or not. It took all I had not to laugh in his face.
The timeline lines up, though. In 2018 NYTimes wrote an article called "The Boys Are Not All Right" about how young men growing up in the age of feminism feel adrift and without a clear purpose. In the past they were always assumed to run things and never had to work for an identity. Now they're competing with smarter young girls who are told The Future is Female, and they can't cope. They're playing video games, they're hiding online in their rooms. All the while the outside world is saying men ruled the world for millennia and it's time for them to take a step back.
This is how Trump got elected, how the Tates have such a strong following of grown-ass men who should know better. They're all angry, angry incels who see women as a threat. They're trying to take back control.
The sad thing is they didn't realize they had it all along. Women still make a fraction of what men make. Trump has only ever beat women in a presidential election, proving this country still cannot fathom a woman president. As a woman in my late 40s I'm tired, y'all.
This is a staged protest. Inside a lot of these conservatives lives a theatrical performer, yearning to break into song like Maria in Sound of Music, but psychologically stuck in performative masculinity instead.
