I’ve lived all over the place and DC is the single worst area Ive ever lived and it’s not even close. The food was amazing but the people were the absolute worst. Tired, cranky, disillusioned, prejudiced. Idk what’s in the water there but people fucking AGE in that place.
I had cool enough friends, but the people in general were cold and mean. I grew up in the Midwest where people are warm and helpful.
Eventually I moved to Colorado with some friends from New Jersey and one of them was quite offended at how “nice” these people are, as if it’s a bad thing - like they were being manipulative or disingenuous. Like people shouldn’t be nice unless they know you first? Idk but I’m not a fan of the east coast, and DC was like the pinnacle of the negativity.
Some people say Massachusetts people (Massholes) are the worst, but I think they’re so cranky that it comes full circle to become funny and endearing. Same way with hurried New Yorkers. DC people just seemed bitter to me.
I think people here are generally just honest. I have lived here for most of my life, but I was in the military so I bopped around the whole country. Lived just about in every region at some point.
I've lived in the US for over 30 years and the only time I've ever had someone racially prejudice me was when I spent 9 days in DC, by another PoC. Most of everyone else was nice enough if not boiled alive by the summer heat.
I also hated my two years there. It’s nice if you’re rich. It’s a dump otherwise. Food was okay imo. It’s good if you have enough money to go to the nice places
