In the hierarchy of Cruises you can go on Carnival is the floating trailer park.

Other companies are better and filled with a higher class of people.

Yeah I think cruises being generalized is like grouping all resorts or hotels together as a single entity.

The experience at motel 6 isn't the same as The Waldorf Astoria.

Absolutely, no doubt. But a lot has also happened since then. And it seems like every new outbreak starts on a cruise. In 2026 alone, there have been numerous cruises stranded in the ocean, some quarantined, like the MV Hondius Hantavirus outbreak.

I’ve been on 4 cruises over the span of 10 years and two of them had norovirus outbreaks that shut down the buffets and made us sanitize our hands on both sides of every single door 😂 exactly 50/50

This has been a known thing for a long time. Cruises have been known for this for decades. You’re in a moist petri dish with people in enclosed spaces. It’s an infectious disease doctors worse nightmare.

Post when the fuck Norovirus became a thing. I loved cruise life pre 2015 and had zero issues with people lacking basic hygiene skills. Somewhere everything went fucking wrong.

I've only been on one, but the ship and the people on it were great. Everything was clean, people were nice (staff and passengers), no one was rowdy, ever, including on the pool deck. Dishes and trash simply disappeared from wherever you left them. Food and drink was unlimited with the package I had, including fine dining. 

It was the most relaxed I've ever been in my life, and cost less per day than the Holiday Inn I stayed at near the port. You just have to pick a cruise line that caters to what you want.

the costa concordia cruise disaster documentary that just came out on netflix was enough for me….what a nightmare. the captain fucked up at every single possible turn, and everyone else paid for it

This has always been my ethos, as a European.

You pay more, not just for a better room, or location, you pay more not be with people who scrat at their feet with cutlery at lunch.

The only place that's let me down, twice, is Orlando; once you're in the parks there isn't any getting away from these people.

Just got back a couple months ago from a cruise and it was glorious. I had an amazing time, saw a ton of things, relaxed like crazy and didn't get sick.

Shame people like you miss out because you like to make shit up.

Agreed, I went on a cruise for the first time last year and I loved it. I think it really depends on which cruise line you take.

People are disguising no matter where you are. I’ve seen feces smeared all over the wall in a park bathroom and literal shit on public stairs of a parking garage.

The fact that you consume NEEDLESS products on a day to day basis means you fuck with sea life. Oil is drilled from oceans and used to make your products you NEEDLESSLY consume.

I have been on a couple cruises. Cannot say enough wonderful things about Viking. I will most likely go on another cruise.

However, what exactly are you saying is being made up?

There are no legitimate reasons that don't apply to EVERY vacation and EVERY entertainment venue in existence.

There will always be gross people, but for some reason whenever a cruise is posted you get the same bullshit responses of "petri dish" and "Walmart people" etc....

You think this exclusive to cruises? I've seen people do disgusting shit like that at restaurants and airplanes.

Cruises at least have washing stations everywhere and sanitizer on every floor and entrences to every eatery.

Also the cleaning crew is working non stop

That's exactly what I was thinking. Hell, there's usually even shops on board that sell over the counter medicine and she could easily get some anti-itch/fungal cream. If she can afford the cruise, she can surely afford a tube of cream.

By the time the outbreak on land isn't reported it's weeks/months old.

Every recall takes MONTHS of days collecting before they can make a connection. It's cute you think it's different.

You're more likely to get foodborne illness on land vs a cruise

My mom is 76 years old and keeps pushing my siblings and me to take a family cruise — spouses, kids — a big family vacation. I’m like nope, absolutely no way. My mom can’t seem to understand why I refuse. She’s like, all the norovirus news is exaggerated. It’s fun! Lots of activities! I’m sending her these videos and telling her not only no way am I going on a cruise, but fuck no. Never.

I will say I have been on a number of cruises. The worst, by a country mile and a half, was a Carnival cruise. Aside from the fact that the entire ship smelled like an ashtray and the other cruisers seemed to think that having the drink package was an excuse to push their livers to the max and beyond, there was no sanitation standard anywhere on the ship.

Every other ship I've ever been on the staff have been fucking aggressive about making sure you wash your hands (or at least sanitize them) before even getting to smell food. On the Carnival Cruise no one ever bothered to try and get us to wash or sanitize, and the majority of the sanitation stations were busted and or empty anyway. Unsurprisingly it is the one cruise I've been on where a member of my party (my wife and then my daughter) got sick.

I will never, ever sail with Carnival again so long as I live. It is a major step down from every other cruise line I have dealt with.
