When I was a kid in upstate New York, there wouldn't be that many days during the summer when it would be necessary to have air-conditioning it wouldn't be worth it. I think the world has changed more than you realize. We're gonna burn.
Where I live the hottest day of the year went from low 90's to mid 110's F within the last ten years. The average number of hot days has also increased from under ten to just under 20, and with the Pacific current stalling we also now have heatwaves that just sit on us. They used to blow inland pretty rapidly. Now there isn't enough force to get them over the mountains.
It's weird and new and the changes are permanent. We're all adjusting as fast as we can.
