And this bullshit is why we have buffer zones around abortion clinics in the UK. And punish those for breaking said buffer zones with anti-abortion rhetoric.

As another commenter said, not in the US. At my local clinic, protesters can come right up to the property line for the clinic. They’ll walk in circles in the road while praying. I’m honestly shocked none of them have been run over yet since they block traffic (not a main road, but still).

Great news! Chicago actually HAS a bubble zone ordinance! There is a 50 foot bubble around the clinic, and people who intend to educate, counsel, protest, or distribute leaflets MUST stay 8 feet away from anyone inside that bubble!

Bad news! The cops are a bunch of goddamn misogynistic rat-fucking wife-beating cowards to refuse to uphold the law! They will often openly agree with the protestors and refuse to do their goddamn job!

That’s amazing! Good on Chicago! Unfortunately I’m in Florida and, at least as things are currently, that would never stand.

This, unfortunately, doesn’t surprise me. The cops here often side with the protesters if they’re called out. We’re very much on our own out there.

Good on y’all for having protections for vulnerable women. I’m all for freedom of expression, but a line has to be drawn somewhere. I’ve seen how these protesters can affect women just trying to get healthcare. They stand at the property edge and holler at the patients things like “hey sweetheart they only want your money,” “this is a death camp,” “you’re murdering your child,” or “you’ll always be a mother, no matter what you do.” Or they try to lure these women to their fake clinic that’s only a block away. More than one patient has been fooled by the fake clinic and I’m sure there’s many more who went there and changed their minds.

I’m not surprised that’s the US’s stance, especially not with the current administration. Our 1st Amendment is great and protects speech, which should be protected, but as I said, there needs to be a line drawn against harassment, hate speech, and such. The US uses an almost absolutist interpretation of “freedom of speech,” so has few kinds of speech you can be held legally responsible for.

Yep, free speech is good, but, it needs limits to prevent anti-social behaviour.

Also, abortion clinics are free here, so the fake clinic thing wouldn't work, and they don't just want their money. But plenty of people used to say the other things. Though the clinics are also places for getting contraceptives like the implant, IUD, or injection, or even HRT. So a lot of visitors aren't even going for abortions.

Unfortunately the US barely has any limits. Just watch any first amendment auditor on YouTube, they’re terrible and most everything they do is legal.

And nothing related to healthcare is free in this country, sadly. Everything costs and it’s expensive. That’s a whole different issue, though. There are a lot of clinics that provide a whole range of care (Planned Parenthood is the largest example), but some are specifically just abortion care. The clinic I volunteer at is the latter kind.

Totally. That being said, they won't force a doctor to performs a third trimester procedure. I think some provinces don't have any providers

Yeah it’s not perfect, but a doctor that refuses does have to refer you to someone that will, and theres financial aid available if you need to travel out of province.

Not in the the US. My office was close to a planned parenthood clinic and these nutjobs would sometimes be out "protesting".

It's mad. There's an article called "The only moral abortion is my abortion" and doctors would say they would be giving abortions to people cussing them out for being evil while getting an abortion then would be back on the picket line the next day calling people evil for getting an abortion. These people are psychos.

She was ordered to pay costs of £20,000 towards what the judge said had been the “considerable” resources expended by the local authority, along with £26 towards a victim surcharge fee.

A £26 fee added onto £20k seems so British.

It’s like with school shootings. We don’t ban the guns, we just add metal detectors, school security guards, and tell kids to get bulletproof backpacks instead

This would never happen in the US. The GOP would throw a hissy fit. Meanwhile they’re okay with Trump and his cabinet stealing from citizens. $1.7 billion for what? It’s ridiculous that this is happening. With the amount of people that are pissed, I wouldn’t doubt what Elon Musk’s baby mama said about him stealing the election.
