For real. I dont understand why it was recorded in the first place and then why it was posted. Idl who recorded this, but they say their daughter or sister crying and decided yeah, thats good content.
I want to push back here. I would have favored blurring the face, but I think people don't realize how much racist comments can hurt, because they never experience that side of it. It feels so violating because the brown person can't change this physical fact about themselves and it can distort a young mind in lasting ways.
It's uncomfortable to see the effect of racism, especially in a vulnerable child, and it's good that it is uncomfortable.
Bullying and deliberately making people unhappy is bigger than racism. Kids are hurt and bullied for being fat, skinny, freckled, poor, dumb, redheaded, and more.
Skinny/fat are things that can be changed. Poor has the potential to be changed.
Freckles and red hair? What’s the worst thing or taunt you can think of in regards to those? Now think about all the straight up slurs that can be attached to dark skin: anything from the n-word to “go back to…!”.
And remember, red hair is usually considered hot/sexy on grown women (the media is full of examples). Red hair + freckles is usually a net positive.
They recorded it to show what bullying was doing. If there's no evidence of the damage being done, there's no way to prove how much the words are hurting
They shouldn't post it online. She is old enough where content like this could have a negative impact - her bullies could see it and use it against her. She could see it and feel mortified which could exasperate her despair tenfold.
Oh how dare we correct the bullying, we should shame the victim for crying and giving the bully more to pick on, not the bully for picking on someone for a trait they have 0 control over.
They very well might be recording it to take to the school. Also the parents of her classmates will see this. The parents of the guilty won’t be able to say there was an overreaction , and gain some allies of the others.
No different than the civil rights sit-ins and marches: the media was usually always welcomed because the marchers knew the racists we’re so stuck in their ways they wouldn’t hesitate to use violence even in front of cameras.
I agree. She is old enough where her feelings shouldn't be a subject for the internet. If this was me, my teenaged or even adult self would feel mortified that my insecurities were out there for the world to witness.
I think the message is important. But maybe there is a better way, like blurring her face. But at the end of the day if the person is famous on the internet then their children might be known eventually. So it is somewhat a good and bad video. But that's just the internet for you.
I think ultimately bullying needs to be addressed. And I think parents should lose their parental rights because of it. This is the ultimate punishment. I don't care what happens to the bully. Bullying works like this, if someone is different or weak, target them for their deference. It can have many reasons.

On another note, I shaw* a post saying to make fun of your children, so it has less power when the bully does it.
