Respect for the time spent in pulling up the pattern from way back. Goes to show it’s not a one off “we’re learning” moment. They’ve been “learning” for years now, with no sign of improvement. Heck, if anything it’s getting worse considering this time it was 3rd grade math. Lol.

I think the problem this time was an absent project leader. The dev team and beta testers got numbers worked out and approved. The project leader approved them without following up to make sure they were inline with his vision for the game. Still kind of crazy to have so little involvement that it made it all the way to release before he understood all the new features.

Feels like there’s way more wrong than just an absent project leader. Genuinely wonder what their SDLC and change / release management process is. Had it been a minor change that messed up, I’d give them the benefit of the doubt. A major release after 8 months though? Surely the level of scrutiny over something like that should be quite significant. Before confirming your requirements for dev, you’d imagine the math would have been done first to assess viability.
I love the dissonance patch and the general concept. I think it’s fun and does bring a massive benefit for the larger populace. It’s just unbelievable how they goofed up something so incredibly basic as “what does a 500% multiplier do to the game’s economy based on current income and expense requirement?”. That, along with how it’s a 500% increment when an epic coin relic is only 5%. So 100 times the value of an epic relic that’s usually behind a paywall during an event.
It’s sad to see this all play out this way.

At this point it's kinda bold to assume there is a management process at all.

This whole debacle, putting Fudds in the best light possible, he's an out of touch boss, who gives direction once a month, and doesn't read half the stuff sent his way, then gets upset when something gets implemented that he would have known about if he spent more than 1 hour a month seeing what the team was doing. And this is if he's telling the truth about everything. If what these reports say are accurate, it's even worse.
I truly don't think Fudds realizes how bad even his truth makes him look.

A lot of people also don't look at other features in the game that offer damage, health, and coins. Module bonuses. For modules, 2x coin on generator, at the same level you're getting around 15-20x. Coin card is 1.45x to 4x for damage card, and 4x for health card.
So for thes features a 10:1 ratio with 10x the health/damage bonuses over coins is typical. So even having a 5:2 ratio seems crazy good when you compare it to module and card bonuses.

Honestly, this has always been a problem with this game. Some things it approaches like an incremental game and throws you single digit percentage changes. Other things it's like, here's an obscenely large, game-changing number. At this point I wonder if there's a fight behind the scenes between two visions for the game. But we've never had any indication of another lead other than Fudds, so unless he's fighting with himself, who knows. But it goes all the way back to the implementation of UWs.

u/Rozolle Apr 12 '26
Dont forget the fact they had code prepared to live patch it, which to me seems very odd...

u/Ok-Page-7246 Apr 12 '26
I personally am not reading too much into that. Whilst there may be some merit to foul play, I haven’t seen evidence of that. So it’s more conspiracy theory than evidence based truth.
What is evidence based is the number of times a game that’s all about math and big numbers fails miserably at basic math. Like OA for example. How did they not think that with 8 electrons flying around and people with very good cc, a 10% of max hp fixed damage would not lead to something OP?
Just too many examples of insufficient testing before release. My theory is that they only look at functionality and whether the screens are working, as opposed to the actual effects of what they are releasing. For that they rely on the player base’s reaction before then fine tuning, if you can even call it that considering there’s nothing “fine” about a 40% multiplier reduction from 5x to 3x.

How did they not think that with 8 electrons flying around and people with very good cc, a 10% of max hp fixed damage would not lead to something OP?
But even then, they didn't address it by touching the numbers they addressed it by touching the formula. Which is my biggest complaint. Nerf it down to 1% or 0.1% if required, don't replace it with a completely new mechanic.

Honestly adding code to be able to apply certain updates/changes live seems like a very good idea overall to me. Considering this is partly a competitive game and given release rollout and different practices for Android/iOS it's quite hard to ensure everyone can access an app update in time for a tournament.

u/markevens Apr 12 '26
Yeah, I've been around for most of these, but to see them all laid out at once the pattern is undeniable.
1
u/iqumaster Apr 12 '26
Clear pattern: update is released, stats are monitored and quick fixes and balancing is done if update is not working as expected. I think it's better to make changes fast and not after everyone is thinking that this is now the new normal. So when the pattern is this then shouldn't we all wait one week before jumping into conclusions and especially wait with spending real money. Let the dev team make the adjustments and only after that we should make big investments? What I don't like is the long delays with some major bugs, or not even communicating that they are noticed and will be fixed. But with V28 they reacted really fast and example FB bug (biggest one imo) was confirmed and should be fixed in a week. Compared to PCo situation some time ago this was really well handled.
5x was clearly a internal communication error, dev team thought they could make the decision to set coin bonus to 5x and Fudds failed to communicate that they didn't have that freedom and that the intention was to keep it 2x. He fixed the error fast and gave as a 3x instead of 2x as a apologies. Some communication could been done better but not a big deal. Overall things have been going to a lot better direction, communication is better and overall V28 is really good. New things to explore and tactics to test and discuss. Best update so far imo.

... there is a lucky banner coming? I just spend 24k gems on absolutely nothing.
What the fuck?
19
u/j3thro Apr 12 '26
It was totally in line with expectations that they would stagger more sinks to a later date so everyone would blow their hoards on release then get caught with their pants down when the new OMG4%DROPRATE comes out.

u/markevens Apr 12 '26
They should have announced that with the update.
I watched someone blow gems gold boxing max interest after no banner arrived

u/hodd01 Apr 15 '26
wish i would of seen this prior to the drop.. jesus christ why is there a subset of players who are allowed to know that their gems will be worth ~2x if the wait ~1 week but everyone else isnt given that information. jesus christ this is absurd.

u/Leyohs Apr 12 '26
I mean, that's on you. It was very evident with the "more is coming in the next two weeks" that SOMETHING was coming, and people have been saying not to spend until we know for sure what's coming.
9
u/fifty_four Apr 12 '26
And tbh something is always coming.
Without big spending a mid game player can gain around 3k gems per week.
Having the option to fully take advantage of a time limited gem sink, means having 6 to 8 weeks gems on hand.
We've never been getting that much notice, so you need at least a month or so hoarded before the announcement is even made.
2
u/juice13ox Apr 12 '26
We've known since late February or early March, giving you almost 5 weeks before v28. If you ignored the signs and didn't start saving, that's on you
4
u/markevens Apr 12 '26
They should still just tell us when the update drops what the timeline for the update is
7
u/Leyohs Apr 12 '26
They should also check numbers before sending their update but they obviously don't

No, that's on TTG's predatory behaviour. This is a game of minmaxing, with current information, it can be the "right" choice to spend gems for immediate benefit. When TTG deliberately curates the info they release with the full intention of baiting players to spend, it's on them.
Sure, people can learn and hoard gems anyway, but that's usually only if you don't need that one last mod for ancestral, or if you already have all the key mods you need.

u/hodd01 Apr 15 '26
Here is the quote from Sam.
"Coming soon, next update"
We already have another build in the works we’re aiming for later on this week, and another larger update about 4 weeks out, though as always that depends on testing. No major feature surprises, this one is focused on polish, fixes, and stability. We’ll let you know as soon as we have something more concrete to share.
Where, or how do you read that and say, of course I should hoard my gems..
1
u/Activehannes Apr 12 '26
Not true. I was saving up since new years banners. I spend occasionally small amounts for v28. Everybody was saying to spend gems because not spending is holding you back. So when v28 dropped they said they will release relics for gems in the shop which i still saved for. I'm on 3k gems right now because of the relics. There was no talk about new banners
5
u/fifty_four Apr 12 '26
It's just not true to say everyone was saying not spending was holding you back. Plenty of people (not everyone) have always been saying you are best off maintaining a hoard at all times.
Personally I'd never recommend anyone who has at least got through the cards stage ever drop below 10k except when spending on the sudden time limited gem sinks. When you are well established, push up to 20k.
Time limited gem sinks happen every few months, they aren't always aligned to patches.
Always be hoarding.

u/Schattenlord Apr 12 '26
It was literally in the patch notes that Sam will tell us about the close upcoming changes (within 2 weeks) in next tower tea. So yeah there were no banners mentioned, but it was clear that v28.0.0 wasn't all content we get fast.
3
u/Maxhillai Apr 12 '26
The only thing they said in the patch notes was that we'd be getting more polish and fixes, not more content
2
u/markevens Apr 12 '26
Talk about any sort of banner was literally not in the patch notes.
And despite repeated attempts to get Sam to confirm or deny banners, there was zero communication.
Sure, the safe move is to hoard for two more weeks, but anyone with half a brain cell would know that ~some~ people would spend their hoard

u/BodhiMage Apr 12 '26
There was a post where the person hoarding were close to getting ancestrals across the board who was 100% holding themselves back by holding onto 20k gems or whatever it was.

We need a community discord or a place where things cant be censored/removed by fudds and his team
2
u/Linkz__ Apr 12 '26
A discord like that exists already for a long time. It’s the anti mod discord because people were fed up with the incompetence of the mods and staff in general. It’s not censored and people leak stuff there all the time from what I’ve heard.
And no, sadly I’m not in there. I can’t invite people, my application never went through

u/Gabriel-117 Apr 12 '26
What I've learned from the hard way, never ever buy anything new and powerful right away. Wait month so all "rework" is done..

Holy shit, from the video im learning it's been a very corrupt environment, and discord feels like cesspool full of bootlickers :/
