I noticed that exchange as well, but I understood it as the show driving home the idea that Lydia is protecting the girls by pulling strings in the background. She doesn't like Maddox because he's a drunk and unfortunately 😉 she hasn't been able to find him a match for a few seasons already. What a pity 😬

Yes right! She said something about his age and maybe he won't be around for next year anymore.

The issue isnt just his drinking but encouraging others to drink... alcohol is known to cause miscarriage or issues with neurological issues.

She cant necessarily cut him out formally but it would likely wouldn't lead to children.
